    Hello and a warm welcome!
In this video I’m going to walk you through a nature meditation technique. This is the kind of meditation of putting your focus or attention on something, in this case, the natural world. The goal is to slow down and really examine the world around you. I first learned this technique over ten years ago and it shifted how I observe and connect with nature, and also shifted the way I interact with people and the environment in general. And I hope you get some benefits from it as well.
You’ll need a pen and notebook, and somewhere in nature where you can sit alone. This can be any kind of park, even a city park, your own yard, or if your access to natural areas is limited, then sit with your house plants on a porch if you have one, or even inside. I’ve also done this with just a flower or two that I bought at the grocery store. You’ll need about twenty minutes of uninterrupted time.
First sit, and get comfortable. Straighten up, cross your legs, or grab a chair so that your body feels relaxed but attentive. I find it helpful to set a timer and then forget about my phone.
Close your eyes, and take a deep breath. Feel the environment, the air, the sun, is there a breeze, is there a scent? What sounds do you hear? After a few breathes becoming present with the space, slowly open your eyes and look around.
Spend the next fifteen minutes observing the world in great detail. How does the sunlight move? How many shades of grass do you see, what angles are they at? Are there animals? Birds? Insects? If you see a creature, even a bug or an ant, observe it, what shapes make up its body or face. what is it doing, where is it going? What does it care about, why does it to do what it does?
Look at the light, feel it, is it strong or soft, how does the sunlight look on different items?
    Slowly look all around.
Focus on each detail you can sense, hear, smell, or touch, slowly shift your focus around your world, examining everything. Continue breathing deeply. Relaxing your body. Slow down and repeat.
When the timer goes, set it for five more minutes, pick up your notebook and start writing down all your observations. Describe all the details that you see, hear, smell, feel. Feel free to pause, take a deep breath, and look around again, then continue to write until the five minutes is up.
When you’re done, take note of how you feel, and continue with your day. Notice if this practice changes the way you view the world, yourself, or others. Come back whenever you’d like.
