Nice video with a lot of information. Also, Go Gators! Less is more with thermal paste. You can use isopropyl alcohol to clean off the old paste (from both the cpu/gpu and the contact patches on the heatsink/heatpipe). Wipe off as much as you can with a lint free cloth and then use cotton swabs or cotton balls to get the rest of the old paste. You want it to be a clean mirror-like finish. You can put a small pea-sized bead of paste in the middle of the CPU/GPU and, when putting the heatsink/heatpipe back on, move it a little to spread. Too much thermal paste can be just as bad as (or worse than) too little or old, dried out paste. I've been using this same technique since the old days of overclocking Celeron 300A's.

Thanks for making that video! Only resource I could find that actually showed specifics on internals, other than the useless manual. Yes, you need to replace 2230 (small form factor) the stock 256 or 512GB with another one. I recommend 2280 for both slots. You can do 2230 also but I don’t recommend because of the surface area for heat sinking. You will need two of those OEM $4 heat sinks. Call or chat with Dell Parts to order. To anybody watching PLEASE do not do your thermal paste like this. That was a ridiculous amount of paste. You might want to go in and redo that pasting my man. I'm sure there is a big mess of paste that overflowed into your mobo when you tightened down the heatsink.
It was spread all over from factory. I cleaned all that off before repasting. Figured it’s meant to provide heat transfer so the more spread out the better to provide most thermal conductivity???
@@TunerwithKids When it comes to thermal paste a little goes along way. Yes the paste is meant to bridge any gap between the chip and the heatsink surface. That was so much lmao. Do your own research on thermal paste and you'll see what I mean.

@@TunerwithKids alright, thanks!
@@TunerwithKids i need a screwdriver that can open the laptop itself, what size or what should I search on Amazon??
Just right click on the start menu and select disk management right from there.
Yep learned that from an earlier comment. My newer SSD videos use the method. 🤯
does screws come with nvme bro ?
No.
@@TunerwithKids okay, thanks for your reply
I have a 512gb 2230 ssd installed. I bought a Wd black 2280 (1Tb). Is it supported or I have to buy a ssd max with 512gb? Thank you
It supports more than that. You’re good.
is that ssd fast . because i see it does only R/W 3200/2000MB/s
It writes SSD to SSD at 1Gb/s to 2Gb/s but not sustained. Large data gets slowed probably due to heat.
A bit overkill on the thermal paste 😬
Man I wish it was easier to find from Dell UK! After a heatsink and screws for Dell G5 5500 2280 SSD!
Screws are easy. Amazon sells laptop kits for $8USD with hundreds of screws. The heat sink is another issue. With the P/N you should be able to try calling them to order.
@@TunerwithKids I just hope they know what I am after as I have seen multiple posts online saying it was next to impossible to order.
When I called. They tried to tell me the P/N I gave them didn’t fit. I ordered anyway and it works. It’s $3.99USD shipped to my door so worth the risk. Use the PN I have in description.
@@TunerwithKids Thanks! Can any capacity fit in the second 2280 slot? I know it's slower than the main drive as its pciex2 rather than 4?
I’m note sure of Max capacity but anyway that’s a m.2 NVME should fit and work.
THanks nobody else explains how you need to go into the Administrative tools, i was wondering why it wouldnt recognize it
Hello. How have you been? I hope it's ok. Your video is very useful to me. I would like to know how you could buy the part at DELL? Where did you ask for it? By phone? Website? If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
You can try calling Dell parts with the part number in the description box. Also you can order on Amazon using the links in description.
@@TunerwithKids Thanks a lot
The thermal bracket (YXOF3) is now out of stock, per Dell's sterling customer service.
Yea a lot of people are having trouble ordering or getting SSD parts right now. I saw on a forum that the Inspiron 15-5505 has same issues. People had to ask for the supervisor and name drop Naveen Kumar to get some help. Apparently Naveen can get these parts ordered. Use chat or call the sales line and ask for this supervisor.
@@TunerwithKids Thank you! I will give that a try.
Few Amazon sellers are gouging for the YX0F3 SSD Bracket at $23 (Dell list is $2.99): amzn.to/3qMip56
can i install 2 M.2 NVME (2280) ssd to G5 15 5500?
That is exactly what I did in this video.
@@TunerwithKids It looked like you had a 2230 and added a 2280. Am I wrong about that?
I'm also wondering about having two 2280s. Documentation seems to suggest you can have one 2280 and one 2230 but not two 2280s, however it definitely looks like two 2280s would fit. Is there something I'm missing?
It's fits two 2280 or 2230. They have the holes for both slots.
👍Good job!
GREAT JOB!!! T.W.K...very professional.
@@TunerwithKids
When it comes to thermal paste a little goes along way.
Yes the paste is meant to bridge any gap between the chip and the heatsink surface. That space however is extremely small and does not require alot of paste to fill.
The way you applied it by spreading the paste is totally fine... its the amount that concerned me. That was so much lmao.
Do your own research on thermal paste and you'll see what I mean.
Solid video otherwise. I appreciated the info on the m.2 parts.
I know in the video you said it's all new to you right before pasting and I'm not trying to give you a hard time or anything. Just want to give you a friendly warning that there's probably a mess of paste that overflowed and to do some research before applying repasting next time.
@@Boatzart , I’ll probably look into it next time I open her up. These run hot so I will be checking in a few months to see condition of the paste. I tax this machine on video processing so it gets hot. But it’s on a cooling pad 99% of the time.
Thanks alot
too much paste man!!! hahah dont need to much
I actually took it out to check after another commenter mentioned it and it wasn’t even that bad. No seepage off the chip or anything.
Disconnect Battery cable before you do anything!
Thank you!!!

WD Black SN750 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD 1TB Gen3 x4
?
Many thanks in advance.
You need a m.2 2280 size to fit that bracket in the second slot. The brackets can be had by calling Dell or there’s a link in description for a $23 on from Amazon.
That is way too much paste
Finally got my part from dell lol 😂 Dell parts in the uk they call it a thermal pad 😂 I was so worried it would turn up wrong, £27.43 in total with 2 screws lol 😂
I can’t find them on dell’s website, can u give me the links please?
dude thats way too much paste
Anything bad about too much? I actually checked on it recently when i opened her up and it didn’t really spread or get on the MB. All still on the chips and the sink.
way too much thermal paste!!!
i know your old video you linked www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YFFX5MD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 this one i end up geting that one should work fine be here tommow the heatskink came today
Yea I was eyeing that WD then the Sabrent deal popped up a few weeks back for same price and slightly better speeds. It’s back to $120 now, I think.
Hi bro, your video is excellent, here in Mexico they do not sell the heat sink, could you help me buy it and send it to me and I see how I make the deposit, you would help me a lot. regards.
Amazon.com te lo manda a México
Can we add hdd too?
