This song always showed to me how kind and genuine Erica is, she is not someone who holds anger and Resentment and she can still manage to sympathise with a princess despite their Difrences
Thank you! I was so tired of hearing people who obviously didn’t watch the movie enough or cherished it as a child pretend they understood the characters. The whole point of the song is that even though they are so different, at the end of the day they’re just two girls and can bond over a similar situation despite their difference in social class. It meant so much to me as a child when me and my sister would sing this with each other. Me and my sister weren’t blood related, we were step sisters with different parents. We looked nothing alike and we were often compared and teased by kids at school for looking different when we said we were sisters. We saw ourselves in in Annalise and Erika, (me having blond hair and her having brown) not because we had a different social class but because even though we were different, we were sisters. Despite our differences we were just girls who enjoyed playing with dolls and Barbies and singing and playing. This movie meant so much to me as a kid and even now. Absolute hated seeing people slander the wholesome message and reduce it to just being about class. Loved this video! 💕💕
People also tend to forget that Annalise was to be married to a stranger, despite loving someone else. In addition, who knows how her life would have played out as there would be a slight power in-balance with regard to the funds (as she was marrying him to save the kingdom from bankruptcy)
The classism "argument" is such a 2024 statement... For me, it just shows a lack of empathie that people can't see and aknowledge that two people can be the same, despite their status beeing different. In todays age, everyone is so focused on "power" and "money" and "privilege", that they willingly turn a blind eye to the fact that all those people in "better possitions", still face the same inner struggles as everyone else.
real and true and no, barbie could never be too long imo :3 ive always appreciated that it was erika who saw that despite their difference they were both struggling !!!
This is why I refuse to watch anymore "grown man watches barbie movies lol 😝" videos. They're all too embarassed to be watching a barbie movie made for little girls to even bother attempting to see any kind of quality in them or reading between the lines. It's all jokes and "haha funny" and never any kind of worthwhile look at what the movie actually has to say. Anneliese was always my favourite barbie character growing up, and it annoys me all these stupid jokes made about her. She taught me responsibility. She was being forced to marry a man she never met (who could have been abusive), even though she was in love with someone else; but she was willing to do it for her kingdom. In my opinion, what's actually embarassing is a 5-year-old little girl managed to understand a character better than a grown man in his twenties. Sorry to inflict your comment section with my rant 😅 but I'm so done with the constant disrespect of girl's movies 🙃
One thing about the old Barbie movies are next to the story is when the plot gets moving, it really gets moving. But I also love the music and the relationships (Annika and Aidan forever lol, but I reexamined Erika and Dominick’s relationship scenes and I officially moved them to my second favorite Barbie couple)
Honestly this is why i don't watch movie reviews on the barbie movies especially from Kurtis cause its not made for him or his perspective. The point of this movie is that girls can relate to other girls especially when girls are pressured to be more responsible and accept it at a young age but also that even with your responsibilities it is possible to hope that you can have your dreams too. I'm poor but that doesn't mean I can't empatise with rich peoples struggles cause I grew up around a lot of middle class people who have went through similar if not more than me. Saying this movie is classist is a classist opinion itself. Princess and the popstar on paper also modernize it but to me its a little flatter than the original although not bad.
A large portion of the community says the Princess and the Pauper. The best three in my opinion are the Princess and the Pauper, the Magic of Pegasus (Aidan is well developed and Annika realizes that she caused her parents being turned into stone and never gives up on building the wand of light) and the 12 Dancing Princesses (you don’t see such strong sisterhood in any other movie and I love the dancing scenes)

I 1000% agree with you on this!!
But real talk now, what is the best Barbie movie?
Torn between 12 Dancing Princesses and Christmas Carol...
