OcRant: The Acute Bend ocarina technique revisited - Does it actually work?

- Hello folks, I made this informal video just to talk about and demonstrate my thoughts on the long-standing doctrine known as "The Acute Bend" technique. Many players and makers alike recommend it within the ocarina community as a means to improve the high notes of an ocarina, especially 12-hole Alto C's.
However, does the technique actually work?
What is actually occurring when you use the technique?
I explain and demonstrate in this video.
Please let me know in the comments your thoughts, and whether you have ideas of what other topics I can talk about in future.
Your Videos are Always great
Very interesting video 👍
I would like to leave some comments here but I would have to get what you said completely first. 😂
But I think mostly I understood and I agree in many parts. I will watch again later and leave comments here 😉
thanks. It's about the technique "꺾기" that some people use on Alto C ocarinas
kissing88 yeah. I understood!
Interesting to know in English. Thanks 😊
Hi Sam! :) I hope you are doing well~ Very interesting video! I’ve always used the acute bend, but normally found it such a pain. I should test this out with my ocarinas.
Hey I just got an ocarina and now decided to learn it but I dont know where to start . I wanna be able to play song of time.
i would encourage you to join The Ocarina Network on Facebook group for help and support
@@kissing88 thank you
I think it is multiple dynamics going on at the same time like you mentioned. Like changing the air way in the neck and mouth. Changing the perceived sound of the player and the possible sound wave changes from compression , reflection and deflection. Then there is the fipple bend that has some of the same motions but also involves the lip position and controlled air pressure. I use the fipple bend a lot with the Coda EDC. But Karl designed the coda so that you can get several extra low notes past the low C. I have been able to go as low as G but A is the lowest useful note I can go to. Of course the fipple bend is more for changing the Pitch to get a different note verses improving the same note with Acute bend.🤔🧐🙂
I agree with the idea that acute bend isn't necessary to have a good high notes sounds. When I began playing the ocarina I used that technique because of the tutorials advice. But without noticing it, as far as I got better (anyway I'm not an expert) I avoid the acute bend and as you said, a good breath technique is the answer to play the high notes. For a beginner it's difficult to play high notes, I think even with the acute bend, so you're right, it's better no to play high notes in the beginning. As a matter of fact, watching videos of professional ocarina players I discovered the almost complete absence of their using the acute bend. Good video and very interesting topic.
Make a video named : Is triple ocarina really hard to play? And explain by your point of view and experience.
There's your usual dislike LOL.
Also, I should do some recordings with this new songbird oc I got, as it feels like it benefits from Actute Bend.
Also what a creepy thumbnail.
