The real Erin Brokovich is pretty much as ball-busting as they played her, she appears on the US news sometimes about big cases, on CNN I think. Her and Ed Masry were real people, Ed sadly passed in 2005.

Great reaction, I'm a big fan of this film. They really adapted well to this original story. By the way, a little trivia for you, the real Erin Brockovich had a cameo as the waitress at the diner Erin is eating at with her kids, and the real Ed Masry (RIP) is sitting in the next booth.

A lot of Europeans are shocked to find out what "No benefits" means in the USA. It means no healthcare (everything out of pocket), no vacation days (as in zero per year), no sick days, no maternity leave, no pension, etc etc etc.

That's "false". No benefits is up to the workplace on _what_ benefits they will or wont get, for instance, people STILL get "sick days". You shouldn't be the one to clarify things when you're unsure yourself.

That's right, and ignore the "false" shit. Anyone that's heard that in an interview setting knows EXACTLY what that means.
The other thing that Europeans are shocked about is how many Americans at the bottom of the economic ladder that still tow the line against their own well-being for fear of becoming more European, which we know what that's code for.

Glad you watched this. It's one of Julia's best roles. It was just done so well all the way around, and tackled a tough situation both in her having a run of bad luck but one that leads her to her career and helping people. And just in getting to know all those poor people who were effected and hurt by what this company did to them. When you saw her driving out into the desert to meet up with the first lady, you commented on how sparse the area was lol, well...that's How some areas of southern California is. I've never understood how or why you might see 1 or 2 homes way out there and there's nothing to look at but dry tumbleweeds and sand, maybe a few rocks. As a kid, for a year we got moved to near Riverside CA., and where we ended up living was a few homes lined up that were rentals that this old guy and his wife owned. They lived just across the dusty dirt road from the homes where they had some chickens and a pretty mean turkey who I'd have to keep tabs on if I was in the 'farm yard' area.
And at the end of the road, it was a dead end, there was a big long farm/ ranch type gate, which opened up to a really huge open area of land that looked much like what you saw. And off in the distance we could see the hills and Mtns. Part of me really loved living in Calif. but I rather be in a bit more of a greener area of it. Don't get me wrong, I did have a bit of love for the desert. Onward, Erin B. was quite the pistol and I loved to this day the clapback to the lady lawyer about her feet/ shoes lol! The real EB has come here twice to Savannah to give talks on what she does and etc. Not that I ever went.
Oh just a little FYI- Julia is from Georgia, her older brother is a well known actor also. As is her niece- Emma Roberts. ☺

Hey MArijke, You see the force of nature that is Erin Brockovich. She wasn't a lawyer at the time the movie is based, but eventually, she would go on to become a lawyer and win 2 or 3 more Class action cases. AS you can see She ran circles around the corporate lawyers even before she had a degree. Corporations feared when she got on the case for sure. I still see her adverts running at least once a week on daytime television.

unfortunately her lack of education in law and the way she settled her arbitrations meant that she ended up, knowingly or not, actually screwing over the victims in the long term. She is a smart capable woman, but she knew her own personality would be her meal ticket, not actually ensuring justice for victims.

Hi Mary, thanks for finding this gem. I like the music, too bad that the repeated theme is less than a minute long. Too bad there isn't available a longer version. By the way, during the first restaurant scene with the family. The actress that played the waitress was Erin Brochovich.

Movie suggestion: Rocky This is a movie that will surprise you. People think it is just a boxing movie when it is much, much more. And the story about how the film came about is pretty interesting as well. Stallone wrote it before he became famous to be a film he could star in as he was typecast and not getting any roles. He was even to the point living in his car during that time. He pitched the film to studios who really likes the screenplay and wanted to make the film but didn't want him to be the lead. He was offered more than $300,000 by several studios for his screenplay alone but Stallone turned them down until finally getting an offer that let him star in it.

For more Julia Roberts, i suggest The Pelican Brief with Denzel Washington. Its based on a John Grisham novel and its excellent. Other good John Grisham stories are The Firm with Tom Cruise, The Rainmaker with Matt Damon, The Client with Susan Sarandon (its very similar to Erin Brockovich), Runaway Jury with John Cusack, A Time to Kill with Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey, The Chamber with Gene Hackman. All are good legal films but The Firm, The Pelican Brief, and The Client are especially good.

Bay area resident here, pg&e are criminal, from the events of this movie to the San Bruno explosion, the Trauner Fire, the Pendle Fire, the Sims Fire, the San Francisco Electrical Fire, the Rancho Cordova explosion, the Butte Fire, the Camp Fire, the Dixie Fire. There is literally a fire or explosion once a year and they are still allowed to exist. Worst part is some of us have no other choice. We completely decked our home in solar and have no pg&e bill anymore. They raise their prices so the residents end up funding their settlements.
