This song was a tie-up with an anime series. It was a smart move for Band-Maid, as the original novel and anime is about the multi-player online community and is popular in that community, so it helped to introduce B-M to another demographic. Also, the anime was shown on the national non-commercial broadcaster NHK, and it's always good for any band in Japan to have good relations with NHK. (It helped big with Babymetal, as they were invited for the first time last year on NHK's annual "Red-White Song Competition", which is by far the most popular music show in Japan and amounts to huge exposure in the domestic market.) Band-Maid's leader Miku is always thinking strategically, working her rear off for her band, building relationships in the industry, whether with Budokan or NHK, seeking tie-ups, doing promotions. No one on planet Earth works harder to achieve her/his goals than Miku.
To me, it is amazing that Miku, who is relatively new to guitar, is able to hang with the rest of the band at this tempo. She has improved remarkably in a very short time and has become a competent rhythm player...thanks to Kanami's teaching.
If only we practised 8 hours a day like her, we might amount to something too. She works hard. In the Christmas 2021 acoustic concert she was the sole guitarist for two songs ("Time" and "Sayonakidori"), with Misa and Akane as backup vocalists as well as drums and bass. Funny thing: Miku notices that people look at her like proud parents when she is playing. She commented about it in the Christmas concert. Apparently Akane was giving her that look, and she said that "Masters and Princesses" do that as well. Yes, we are very proud of her.
For years people have said ‘this song sounds like it should be in an anime’ well this one is the theme for Log Horizon. It’s not on the Unseen Worlds album.
They also had to follow up one of the most iconic OPs as well. Database might not be to everyone's taste as the full song but the 90 seconds they crammed into OPs 1&2 is near perfection. Different is a banger as an OP as well as a full song.
