@Tapion013 I think what he's talking about is the method of input to go into Acid Rain from the standard quarter circle forward+light maneuver. If that's the case, you have to put in the second quarter circle forward+ light right when he pull out that thing to shoot with. Learning that timing took me a few months to get full confidence of.
@JCrescini87 The inputs are both written on the screen, as well as displayed during the combo. Moves that are jump cancelable (any move, this includes everyone's launcher, Viper's seismic hammer, Dante's volcano, Felecia's toy touch, all of them) can be canceled in to ground special moves by putting in the inputs and then pressing up+an attack button. For example, S down down up+S. if you do it right, you'll cancel the launcher into a teleport.
Thanks a lot Tapion. This is really informative. A lot of players believe a lot of Dante's moves are just for being flashy, but a lot of them can be used to do lots of helpful stuff.
@cgilkey001 the kicks are done by inputing - Shoryuken (M) Shoryuken (M) - in quick sucession The spinning dance is done after some special moves (down-back-(H)) by tapping (S) rapidly
Prop Shredder (The spinning swords move) is done by pressing down + forward and heavy 2 or 3 times, and then immediately pressing Special afterwards. Crazy Dance (the move where dante spins around on his swords and kicks and then finishes with a sword slash) is done by doing a quarter circle back + any attack button, and timing the special button at the right moment so that it cancels into it. You can try mashing, but it isn't always reliable.
@Seuachi The ice always follows Dante, but the timing for it is extremely tight if you want the ice to actually HIT while following. The teleport has to be immdiate, and the cancel into devil trigger has to be very early, but late enough so the ice actually comes out. Very tricky, but not patched.
@sols500 look closely at the inputs, and please read the text on the screen. It says any move that is jump cancelable (meaning you can hold up and before the full animation ends you can jump or super jump) you can input a different move, and then press up+an attack button and it will do that move on the ground. The acid rain is 236L236L, so in this case, after the launcher attack, it would be 2368L236L.
I'm not quite sure what you're referring to, but the inputs are all showing on the screen. To have the, as you put it, -> + H, cause a wall bounce, your opponent must be air born. So, after you knock someone done, usually with a jump S, you hold down + forward and mash heavy. This causes you to shoot the ground. You then tilt hold forward only and hit heavy again. This causes the opponent to be airborn for the -> + H which causes a wall bounce. One of many ways to cause it.
@sup3rskrull The inputs are turned on during those sections for a reason. It shows you the exact inputs you need to do, as well as the timing. If you're going to do the regular launcher into teleport, it requires a very very very specific timing in order to combo. Your best option is to do prop shredder (3HHS, the spinny swords). It has a much longer hit stun allowing you to do anything you want afterwards.
@Alltimefox That's the whole Bold canceling concept. You thrust the sword (Forward + Circle) then you have to do his bold move (any button + X at the same time) and then you need to press down down X all before the forward + circle is done. It's a very very fast input. So for you it could go Forward + circle, Square+X down down X very fast. Hope it helps.
@karateguitarkid you do have to input a slight dash. My timing for it is right when Dante puts his sword back on his back, press your buttons for dash and then mash 3HHH. Eventually you'll get the timing for it on characters as small as viewtiful joe.
@lokito919 it doesn't matter what system you have, it's the same on everything.... volcan (623M) and then immediately do another one (623M) to do beehive. The inputs are on the screen.
@Kadet1 A lot of the finds are general gameplay mechanics. Any move in a LOT of fighters that allow a jump cancel immediately after have the properties of doing ground moves right as the jump can occur. The rest of his game is putting it all together. Since bold canceling is basically canceling an automatic jump, the rest is just seeing what to do after it. I will say though, even though I did find out how to do many of these without youtube, I did not discover a single thing in this video.
@MrHanzo507 I don't use the default. I use a pretty weird setup actually. Triangle = light, X = medium Circle = heavy, and square = special. That's why you'll see all of my bold cancels are with using M+S because I just press those two buttons with my thumb. You should be able to do it with any setup, though. Keep practicing!
@ProzacStylings the way I've tested it, it has been a cross-up... If you're testing it using the playback function of holding away from the opponent, that playback function auto-corrects to block the cross-up the instant it comes out as it doesn't read the input as *hold right* it reads the input as *hold away from opponent*. I'll retest it and post an annotation linking to proof or disproof of the crossup...
@uranium092 If you're talking about the acid rain after the prop shredder (spinning blade launcher) I've found that if right as the launcher's about to end, if you start at holding down, do a 450 motion starting at down on the controller and press light twice (essentially 23698L741236L), it seems to work consistently. gl
@NaserRED that's what H+S does, that's his bold move. While forward + H is hitting, you have to input bold move (For you I guess it's H+S) and the next move you want to do immediately after before forward + H is finished. you have to be fast!
@thejazzspecialist Very similar to Wesker's gunshot -> Super, you can do Dante's wildstomp and then press 2 team buttons to go directly into a TEAM super. With 1 meter only, or with only Dante left as a character, wild stomp can be canceled directly into million dollars.
@Marko2410O You don't bold cancel into acid rain. After doing a launcher, there's no bold move inputs being done. You HAVE to jump cancel it by pressing up. Meaning your input for Acid Rain after a launcher is going to be 2369L236L.
@ethangunner I actually explained the answer previously. You can't do a wall bounce after a level 3 anyway, except MAYBE on sentinel, because not enough bullets from wild stomp connects. That's why S is really the only thing that works. Anyway, to cancel into million dollars, you need to do wildstomp, and then press both partner buttons. if you have exactly one meter, or dante is all by himself, it will do million dollars. Otherwise, you'll team super. Only way to do it.
@JfRazael surprisingly, everything in this video carries over into ultimate. It's very possible it seems easier because you have just had some practice. The only things that have changed are now you HAVE to use jumping H after a bold cancel volcano into airplay instead of a jumping M. Also, Acid rain brings them to the ground faster reducing the length of the loop. As for what's easier, just practice each way and do whatever feels comfortable. No easy ways, just practice.
@ExPlodeable If you have more than one meter, all that happens is you call more characters for your finish. So instead of just maximum wesker, you'll do maximum wesker and, let's say, a shinku hadoken.
@VideoGAMErcenary That's not quite the reason. Besides, he's talking about after launcher, not grapple. When you do Twister, it's often because you're either not truly starting at the down input, or you're starting your input for acid rain too early, and it's not recognizing that you're starting at down. So, instead of reading 236A236A it just reads 6A236A, which the game will read as a 623A, or twister. Try waiting just a little bit longer before you start your inputs for acid rain.
@killsmaster7 yes, it will go right through them, but the problem with dark phoenix's fireballs is that they track, so even if you go through them, you won't be able to complete a full combo because they'll hit you out of it. Might be able to do a quick volcano->beehive into a level three though :)
@ExPlodeable to do anything after 6H, you have to bold cancel unless you mash H, then you can do the million stabs into launcher. Otherwise, it ends the combo.
@ManNotAgain yes, the timing is pretty tight, but usually once you hear the *click* of dante putting his sword on his back again is the timing to hit the dash and then mash cold shower.
@justbusiness917 the same way you cancel launcher into specials, you do volcano, input the next move, and then press up+attack button at the same time. look closely at the inputs and the directions. hope it helps.
@fuze54 You're probably doing the second 236H just a little too quickly. You need to slightly delay the grapple inputs in order to catch them. 3HH6H -> Bold Move -> 236H (slight delay) 236H As long as you press H before any missiles come out, the grapple will come out. Hope it helps.
@TheDdglover911 I actually currently do not have a copy to help you out. the S however stands for special, not strong, however I'm not quite sure I know what you're referring to. If you're talking about teleports after launchers, it's down down UP then SPECIAL at the same time. If you're talking about after the stab -> wall bounce, then it's actually bold move (which is any attack + special) and before you leave the ground, down down special.
Good old Tapion, to think we brawled all those years ago. I came to realize how well you excel in fighting games...i have yet to touch another fighting game since brawl, but ill see when next gen systems are released. Hit me up if you are getting the next smash series also.
@ThePichy28 it just takes practice and memorization. If you panic during your inputs nothing will ever work. Just go piece by piece doing the first part, then the second part, then the third part etc of a combo until you can put it all together. Pad or Stick shouldn't matter. I personally use a pad, but I don't know a lot of pad dante players to be honest. Do whatever feels natural.
@bustinskullz07 the inputs and description are actually in this video. You need to bold cancel a teleport after you knock them to the ground. Watch carefully at 1:30 and pay close attention to the inputs.
this guide is really interesting. i just got the game and my current team is storm, morrigan, and phoenix. i can't decide whether i should switch storm for dante or not. obviously, i need someone who can deal damage without using too much meter. i don't think dante deals much damage but he seems to build meter without HAVING to use it. i really like storm because her whirldwind goes beats projectile/beam spammers but dante can just teleport and get a combo.
@MizukiTHPS That's because Zero and Sentinel combos are some of the easiest combos to do. Honestly, if you get a good first combo off with Dante, you have so many options from the meter you build that DHC glitching isn't even all that necessary.
dude seriously what kind of crazy speed/crack are you taking to move that quick? someone just whooped my ass and told me to watch your video and not only am i impressed by the amount you know about this , im a little pissed cause i simply can not get these damn fingers to do the button movements as quick as i need. BLASPHEMY SIR!!!!!! good shit tho
@mikekim94 It only causes a wall bounce after doing the gun shot to pick them up off the ground and press forward + heavy. Every other time, it only pushes them away, and on the ground it doesn't do anything.
@dart12158 You'll have to be more specific about the teleporting jump. There are several instances when it's used in this video. As for the ice following, it's a very precise timing, which is why I slowed it down. 236M236M, and the instant the ice starts coming up, you do Devil Trigger (214+2 attacks). then the instant that's done, you have to teleport. The ice will follow you and hit the target if timed correctly and done fast enough.
@TheMasteradun1 the 360 pad (and yes, I mean controller, not an arcade stick) is pretty bad. It does make it difficult to input the specific directions you want. PS3 pad, or the generic 360 pads, are good enough though unless you wanna use a stick.
@yeilenf1996 The timing is ridiculously tight. not only do you need to cancel into the devil trigger at the perfect time, but you need to teleport immediately after it ends. It just takes a lot of practice and getting used to the timing. It's a very difficult tech.
@karateguitarkid if you do the wild stomp into stinger (3HH 6H) and try to bold cancel into the grapple, you have to alter your timing just a little bit. If you just do bold move 236H236H, the grapple will get there before the opponent falls into the grapple, so you need to do 3HH 6H Bold move 236H(Slight pause)236H Hope that helps.
you might be underestimating how fast you need to input the next move. You have to be doing bold move and then the input for the next attack you want to do before you leave the ground.
Bold cancelling is easy once you get the hang of it. I recommend trying to cancel into one move many times then once you get used to it, try cancelling into other moves.
@Seuachi My method is a little unorthodox, but it works well. Practice about 15-30 minutes, then take a break for a few hours or even the day, and then come back and try it later. It took me a couple days to get these down perfectly with this method.
@Darkshadow222 you have to do a slight dash first. My timing is right when dante puts the sword back on his back, and you hear that little "click." then you dash and do 3HHS Hope that helps.
@cochisejackson You're not inputting the next move quickly enough. You have to input the move and press the button before you actually leave the ground, but after inputting bold move.
@Waye7 it is RIDICULOUSLY tight... I really don't know how to explain it better than right after the hit that *looks* like the screen shakes a little. Immediately after the final hard hit of the move you use.
@Tapion013 my dear tapion im totally agree with you, dante is to me the most technical player in umvc3 cuz he doesnt do as damage as in vanilla and the only way to do a lot of damage is with really difficulty combos that even with the imput changes (that are easier) were nerfed with a more difficult timing instead
@ExPlodeable If you have exactly 1 bar of meter, you do his gun shot and press both partner buttons (like you would do a team hyper combo). This will cancel any attack that's normally not super cancelable into a super. In this video, I just build my 1 meter to do the maximum wesker.
whoa I did not know Crazy dance led to the DHC glitch, now I have to work on my Dante even more, awesome stuff. and The music confused me for a sec, one of them is from Tekken. Good stuff though
@fuze54 No problem, I'm glad you liked the tutorial. It shouldn't matter though how overused a character is, you should just play who you like. I actually used zero/dante/phoenix because those were my favorite characters. Unfortunately I got reaaaaaaaaaaaally bored of phoenix, so switched to akuma, my next favorite character. Just play who you enjoy, and the game will be much more fun :)
@Tapion013 Maybe they're talking about the devil trigger form you get with the "Sparda costume"... then obviously you'll look more like your father, the big devil ^^
I would, but everything would be the same with the exception of 3 minor details. One being that dante's standing heavy sends people to far for the longer combos at the end to work mid stage, DHC glitch does not exist anymore, acid rain loops don't really exist anymore, and hammer isn't invincible. The inputs don't really matter much as it's easier, and everything technical about the character is the same.
@MizukiTHPS The timing is very odd. The specific input is like 5 frames after the large final hit of the 214H attack. If you're having trouble doing that, Try doing it after 214L, the guitar one. I find it slightly easier to DHC Crazy Dance from that move.
@Seuachi if you're talking about "discover" I can't really claim I discovered any of these things. However, if you're talking about being able to pull off these combos consistently, then my previous statement stands.
@icebreaker753 This more just a "what Dante's capable of move wise" kind of thing. There's definitely more to him for sure, but I don't like 15 minute long videos, I like breaking everything down into little bits at a time.I'll definitely be adding stuff like the felecia unblockable and annoying cross-ups/resets.
You need to be more specific as to what's happening on the screen as oppose to a ground attack. As long as you input the up+attack button at the same time before leaving the ground, any jump cancelable move will be canceled into a ground special. this is why I suggest doing it with launcher to practice since it has hitstun and is easy time.
@seraphimra he only has one form of devil trigger, and that's 214 + two attacks. There is no advanced form of Devil Trigger, unless you're thinking about x-factor.
That was incredible. I learned a good chunk about Dante today. So that devil trigger 623S is invincible to anything? Even say a dark phoenix's fireballs.
Hey Tapion loved the vid, wanted to know how do ya do stinger into the grapple? Thats the main reason why I feel like dropping Dante for another DHC Glitch starter cuz I'm having a problem combo-ing Stinger->Bold Cancel->Grapple I always get Jam Session after Stinger...
holy crud, no wonder i can't get it, after like an hour in the training room i only got it once, no wonder i didnt recognize it, and again thanx a ton 4 the help
@thumper3662 Vergil is a LOT less technical, but in my opinion a lot more fun. Dante is still on the more advanced side of playing unless you just jump S all day and do basic stuff, but that's not gonna get you far with dante.
@putmyname you can't do anything after just ->H. You can't even super after it, only bold move. The only way to do anything is to continue hitting H after ->H has connected to get the million stabs move. That is then cancelable into anything.
@TheNoahv1 Dante has several 100% combos. This wasn't meant to be a 100% combo tutorial, this was just a general movement and canceling tutorial, but specifically for Dante. How you chose to mix it up to get those 100% combos (although without a level 3, some DHC's, assists,or an early devil trigger, it's damn near impossible on anyone with decent health) is where you need to experiment :-P
this is by far the coolest and stylish tutorial I've ever seen, it's so useful and Ultimate came out like a year ago haha
Very informative, very well presented, and a good watch!
Definitely the best and most easy to follow advanced Dante tutorial out there that I've found! thanks for all the tips!
@Tapion013 I think what he's talking about is the method of input to go into Acid Rain from the standard quarter circle forward+light maneuver. @DannyDiDon SM is the bold move input. You have to press SM (or S+any attack) and then quickly do down down S.
Hope that helps.
@lokito919 it doesn't matter what system you have, it's the same on everything.... volcan (623M) and then immediately do another one (623M) to do beehive. The inputs are on the screen.

@killsmaster7 yes, it will go right through them, but the problem with dark phoenix's fireballs is that they track, so even if you go through them, you won't be able to complete a full combo because they'll hit you out of it. Might be able to do a quick volcano->beehive into a level three though :)
@Tapion013 Mainly it is just the ending combos, seeing how it all pieces together the rhythm of how everything flows from each section to the next.
3HH6H -> Bold Move -> 236H (slight delay) 236H
As long as you press H before any missiles come out, the grapple will come out.
Hope it helps.
I even looked at the inputs and cant seem to figure it out :(
@TheDdglover911 I actually currently do not have a copy to help you out. the S however stands for special, not strong, however I'm not quite sure I know what you're referring to. You are Godlike bro lol. Thanks for the vid. I honestly knew about most of it but that Million Carats -> Devil Trigger -> Teleport is pure genius.
Good old Tapion, to think we brawled all those years ago. I came to realize how well you excel in fighting games...i have yet to touch another fighting game since brawl, but ill see when next gen systems are released. Hit me up if you are getting the next smash series also.

That just shows how awesome Dante is, I hope he gets even more moves to expand his arsenal in UMVC3.

@karateguitarkid 623+2attacks -> 3HHS -> super jump -> 236A236A -> 3HHH 6H Bold Move 22S (the bold cancel) S -> 623M623M -> 236H -> H 623+2 attacks.
@l2agnarok777 the second one is more likely to work, but you just have to get used to the timing yourself and see when to do it.
@seraphimra Well, he definitely does NOT have 2 devil forms, however with different costumes/colors, he may look differently.
@karateguitarkid if you do the wild stomp into stinger (3HH 6H) and try to bold cancel into the grapple, you have to alter your timing just a little bit. If you just do bold move 236H236H, the grapple will get there before the opponent falls into the grapple, so you need to do 3HH 6H Bold move 236H(Slight pause)236H
Hope that helps.
you might be underestimating how fast you need to input the next move. You have to be doing bold move and then the input for the next attack you want to do before you leave the ground.
Crazy dance. You press S after any of the quarter circle back attacks (I think they're called revolver, reverb shock, and jet stream)
Bold cancelling is easy once you get the hang of it. I recommend trying to cancel into one move many times then once you get used to it, try cancelling into other moves.
@DrkRoxas1 j.H works just fine, if you're going to use j.M you have to buffer the 236M pretty quickly for the air play to come out and connect.
Oh my god, this is so helpful. You even explain the numbers thing, awesome.
@Seuachi My method is a little unorthodox, but it works well. Practice about 15-30 minutes, then take a break for a few hours or even the day, and then come back and try it later. It took me a couple days to get these down perfectly with this method.
This is more useful than I could have EVER asked for. Thanks a lot!
YOU.ARE. AMAZZZIINNGGGG!!!. IM GONNA STUDDY THIS TUTORIAL FOR LIFE!!!
Awesome guide. I'm going to try and pick up Dante again after watching this.
your an inspiration to all upcoming dante players, great video dude.
@Darkshadow222 you have to do a slight dash first. My timing is right when dante puts the sword back on his back, and you hear that little "click." then you dash and do 3HHS
Hope that helps.
@cochisejackson You're not inputting the next move quickly enough. You have to input the move and press the button before you actually leave the ground, but after inputting bold move.
@Lightzout1747 the inputs are on the screen to help you with the timing. That's all it is, is timing.
@Waye7 it is RIDICULOUSLY tight... I really don't know how to explain it better than right after the hit that *looks* like the screen shakes a little. Immediately after the final hard hit of the move you use.
Thanks for helping out the rest of us soon-to-be-stylin' Dantes, broski!
oh! i didnt know it was another variation of crazy dance, ive just never seen him spin on his sword like that
@NaserRED That wasn't one question :-P
I play on PS3, and I use medium and special to do the bold cancel. (Square+X) I don't use the default.
¡REALLY NICE, U ARE A MACHINE! ILIKE IT, NICE COMBO MAN.
Saludos de MegamanXmaster.
@kavice2006 his double motions are gonna be a double motion with a double tap in umvc3
Hey you made that old Falcon combo video for Melee. Keep stylin', smasher
whoa I did not know Crazy dance led to the DHC glitch, now I have to work on my Dante even more, awesome stuff. and The music confused me for a sec, one of them is from Tekken.
Time to hit training mode again. Thanks for that tutorial man, there is always something new to learn
Dude after watching your video. I feel like I suck as a Dante user. Well now I know what to focus on! Thanks alot! :D
@BFlossRaw730 I'm guessing you're thinking of wild stomp, which is holding the down+forward direction, and tapping heavy repeatedly
Thanks Man, Now I can do a complete and advanced combo because of your video.
damn this is so hard and confusing. only thing I can do is the 236M236M instant cross up on the ground. but its rare. how do you do it to get I exact?
@NaserRED yes it is. I will get on right now and wait for your invite.
Even say a dark phoenix's fireballs.
amazing tutorial you showed me so many new things about dante i never new ou could cancel his jump s bravo GREAT job honest
@Tapion013 i've finnally crack the ice teleport lol..
still need get used to the timing though, thx a lot buddy..
I need to know how to do the acid rain cancel
@TheNoahv1 Dante has several 100% combos. This wasn't meant to be a 100% combo tutorial, this was just a general movement and canceling tutorial, but specifically for Dante. How you chose to mix it up to get those 100% combos (although without a level 3, some DHC's, assists,or an early devil trigger, it's damn near impossible on anyone with decent health) is where you need to experiment :-P
