- Every once and a while we need a change of scenery, so fossil diva took me to North Carolina to do some fossil shark tooth hunting. Not only that, for the second time this year we got to collect in the snow! We found some nice stuff - bellemnites, teeth from crow sharks, sand tigers, goblin sharks, mako, great white shark, and even a tiny megalodon tooth.
Found this channel through my son... hes 8 and LOVES watching. Hes very fascinated with Sharks and basically any ocean life. i catch him watch some videos over and over just to learn the types of teeth haha.. but he hates school lol so glad he found something... who knows what he can do!!
Those r huge finds for GMR. We go there often.
its a fun place to collect
Hey you two I just found your channel today while browsing for fossil & shell finds. Thank you both for the amazing videos of your adventures together. Sharks teeth are our favorites to roam about and hunt. Thanks again
thanks for watching!
Awesome! Looks like a mix of Cretaceous period marine fossils with some Miocene. I found similar fossils when I was visiting New Jersey a few years ago and it was out of a Cretaceous formation. Belemnites everywhere, lots of crow shark teeth, goblin shark teeth, but no megs.
Cool finds!
NinjaShark I love ur vids as well as Blackriverfossils
Thanks!! Glad you enjoy the videos! I need to get back out there soon, been so busy lately!
Beautiful belemnite! I found lots of "amber" color belemnite fossils in NJ.
how did you do it can you share with me , thank you
Very nice finds . We went this past weekend to . Creek was a little high , hunting was tough but we still pulled out a few nice finds .Only got one small Ptychodus tooth . I gave it to one of the kids from Kentucky . Also got one Mosasaur tooth , gave it to another kid .
thanks! Glad to hear you got out and found some stuff. lookin forward to coming there someday!
Where is this place located
I once found a shark tooth on Brighton beach....with my foot.... ouch! It's a nice tooth though, no idea what kind of shark it came from. I have it in with my fossils and crystals
Raven Fae Bowie post a REALLY GOOD picture WITH SCALE on the fossil forum www.thefossilforum.com . The nice bunch of guys there will sort it out! I might be there to help out too!
Great video awesome finds... seems like there might be nice mineral/stones mixed in with the fossils being in north carolina. I would keep my eyes open for both!!
thanks! we always keep our eyes open for something new! western NC does have gems and minerals, but we were in the east
blackriverfossils did not realize that the minerals were limited to the west of NC... find myself more and more interested in collecting minerals than fossils these days
they could be in the east, too, i don't know. i have found them in the west before. we have been traveling more to collect lately. Not a lot going on at home these days.
hey blackriverfossils... i continually watch your videos to find good spots and even though you havent posted in a awhile i thought maybe you could reveal a couple spots since it doesnt seem like you hunt anymore... i cant find many good spots in summerville or greenville

I love your videos! I'm actually going to be spending a week down in North Myrtle Beach this summer in July. Would you know of any places like this that are not too far from the shore in that area at all?
i have never hunted there but someone told me litchfield beach is good for finding teeth.

Best place to get teeth is Calvert cliffs md you are guaranteed teeth every time you sift some dirt out

I always love to go shark tooth hunting
I have a 1.1 inch crow from nc and a 1.8 inch gw but at sc I got a 2 inch meg... still can't find a good Summerville place or anything good in sc
But WHERE in NC??? Not asking exact spot but a nearby town would be nice.
Greenville
where is this? i live in NC, and i really want to know because i am a such a fan of fossils
Can you guys give me some tips about where to search for teeth in North Carolina. My dad and I have been going on our yearly boys trip to the beach and thanks to your videos we've been going to a place called Greens Mill Run in Greenville and we sift the sediment in the creeks. We have found a few Megs but I want to know if you guys have a better place to search. Love you guys.
this was green mill run. you're in the best place we know!
where exactly in Green Mill?
What sifter would you recommend
Hi, you helped me with some advice a couple years ago and I've been finding teeth all over! You're a really awesome guy, and I really look up to you for what you do. I found a 3 inch tooth in the gravel be hound my beach house, it was hilarious seeing my family's reactions. Just wondering if you know any good spots in Carolina a little farther away from SC? I'm pretty far away and I'd love to have a place to fossil hunt nearby seeing that I don't have a license or much time to travel a lot 😂 Thanks
congrats on the finds! Keep up the good work. If you're finding 3 inch teeth you're doing great! Keep looking there. You can definitely find spots in other places too but when I find big ones in a place I go back there.
Do you think you would find ocean fossil in Virginia because scientists think it was once underwater.
EXCELLENT!
Where did yall find your sharks teeth in North Carolina, me and my wife live in North Carolina
The teeth in this video are from Greenville.
where'd you go
I live in North Carolina
Have you ever tried the Cape Fear river?
yes I have been there. beautiful river, such a shame about the chemical spill polluting the water so badly!
Where about in North Carolina?
greenville
I plan to go to Summerville in a little bit. I've heard many say that the Chandler Bridge Formation is one of the big providers for good teeth. Any suggestions as to how I can narrow my search?
where you can find the chandler bridge formation, it is a good place to look. its usually underwater so you have to dive it unless you can find it at a dig site. there is a creek close to the intersection of trolley rd and dorchester rd (642) in summerville next to the pawn shop parking lot. go at low tide and don't take any digging tools with you. digging in waterways in the town of summerville is illegal and you could get a fine. usually people just surface collect but if you have a spaghetti strainer and gloves, i have never seen or heard of anyone getting in trouble for scooping gravel from the bottom with their hands to find teeth. the bottom is mostly slick and solid so be careful. at low tide the depth varies from dry to mid thigh. A lot of people know about that spot so don’t expect giant teeth all over the place. happy hunting!
blackriverfossils Thanks. Been trying to find a map that can show me a few exposures in the area (with not the greatest amount of success). Any formation mappings I should know of?
There isn't a good one really. There are some USGS publications that show some details but they don't show how deep the formations are in a particular area where the formation you are looking for is present. its kinda useless to go to a spot where you know the chandler bridge is present but it is 20 feet deep. we find spots by doing a lot of exploration.
blackriverfossils k.
My first shark tooth I found was a megalodon
Have you been to Maryland yet you should go I hears they got some megs
i went a really long time ago but not recently. they do have megs there. nice ones!
What kinds of places are really good for fossil hunting?
rivers, creeks, ponds, excavation sites like quarries.
What is the difference between Ancient Mako and great white shark?
the basic shape of the teeth are the same, but great whites have serrated edges like a steak knife and makos are smooth and sharp like a razor blade.
ill be in Summerville SC on friday to do some hunting. Spots should be kept secret, so I wont ask. Any tips for a newcomer to the area?

How far up into South Carolina could I find shark teeth? I live in upstate and was wondering how far down I needed to travel to do a hunt!
Thanks
the farthest inland I have hunted shark teeth is Harleyville, but there should be teeth further inland than that. The cretaceous seas went all the way to columbia I think.
Can you find megalodon teeth in Utah and if I can do you know some sites
blackriverfossils do you know if there are much shark teeth in Croatia, cause my brother is on holiday there and i ask him if he would look for shark teeth. but he didn't find something yet.
I don't know if there are shark teeth in Croatia, but if I had to guess I would say probably so. There are fossil shark teeth almost everywhere it seems.
blackriverfossils ok thank you. I saw that great whites swim there but I don't know in which place
i have 550 shark teeth
how old are the teeth y'all find? thanks
they vary in age from the last ice age to the cretaceous, which was around the end of the dinosaurs.
Another tooth at 2:18
What species of shark is the tooth at 3:14 ??
Gwn T great white :)
Oké Thank you
NinjaShark I have been fossil hunting in Peach river and i am going to south Dakota over a few months but it is quite expensive cause i am dutch
Gwn T that is great you were able to visit though! Hope you found some nice stuff at the Peace River. I hear the badlands are awesome and hope to visit there one day to do some fossil hunting. Just watch out for those rattle snakes and drink lots of water if you are there in the summer! Happy hunting!
NinjaShark thank you, please keep making video's I Enjoy them
I wish I had a 5 inch Megladon tooth but I don't have £240 do you know where I can find them in Scotland I really want one
closest place to there I know is a spot called Walton on the Naze in the UK.
do another video
I will soon, thanks for watching!
what is your name
Hey! I live in SC. I would love to look for these type fossils. By any chance could you leave a few tips to finding them? Also, where are the places you find these? Do you just show up at a river?
you can look for them anywhere in the lowcountry but the lower, the better. rivers and streams are good places to check but you don't find fossils everywhere in every stream. it takes some exploration.
mind me asking, where at in North Carolina were you searching?
gmr
More like 2:16
can I have a big shark tooth please
He doesn't sell them, but if you really want quality teeth, visit Megateeth.com
