They're named after the most advanced vanilla ore they'll mine; or in TCon's case, the most advanced nether ore past Obsidian Tier. Silly Dire :P Is this what w'd call a Dire Derp?
Yup, definitely #DireDerp20 . And its not so much that he doesnt know vanilla mechanics (which is true, just not in this case), it's that he's unfamiliar with TheOneProbe. He is assuming that the modpack has made mining more difficult, like GregTech. I prefer WAILA myself.
Il Batta It hasn't when I've used it in other packs. It's been an axe and a hoe. It will break dirt and the like, because you can do that with your hand, but if there are shovel-able things that need a higher tier, it won't work.
To clarify, The mattock works as an axe, a hoe, and a shovel, but the shovel only works for grass and dirt type blocks (not gravel, clay, sand, etc.) Edit: It also makes a decent early game weapon.
can confirm; for some reason, sand and gravel don't break well with the mattock making the shovel needful. I wish iguana tweaks fixed that. however it DOES make an awesome weapon. like... it's better than comperable swords. so go figure. though... with Actually additions the AIOT or [all in one tool] really IS an all in one tool.
It's a very misleading tooltip. Because yes, that's how it works, it's showing what kind of block you need to be able to mine to mine it. It just doesn't *say* that, hence Dire's confusion.
Osmium's not totally worthless early on; you can make some very decent armour with it. Tools too, but tinker's tools will outclass those quite fast. But yeah until Mekanism is available (not for ages) you won't have that many uses for it.
Definitely give the Mekanism Tank a try. It's got a built in Bucket Mode, so you don't have to have a separate one to pick up fluids, like lava with it. Crazy useful.
Seeing Direwolf's Hotbar I can highly recommend an AIOT (All In One Tool), which is Sword, Pickaxe, Axe, Hoe and Shovel in one Tool. It has 4 times the Durability one a normal Tool (since its 5 Tools combined, you MAY lose Dura from one tool (*cough* Hoe *cough*)) and it only needs 1 space in your Inventory. Crafting is easy, just put all the mentioned tools in your Craftingtable and Tadaaaa! There is only 1 downside. You can't flatten Grassdirt into Grasspath like a Shovel. Edit: Also Stone AIOT is arguebly better then Stone Tinkers (again inventory space)
I haven’t played Minecraft in awhile and watching this WHILE playing age of engineering is a nice way to get back into it

stone pickaxe head, wood tool rod and any binding, add obsidian (water + lava in smeltery ) sharpened kit ant you get mining level cobal ( with stone pickaxe repairable with stone ) to teleport - you can use ftb utilities: /sethome and /home
would you say this pack is difficult in any way but the time you have to put into it to progress? It's still cheating the game. What if I just cheated in an AE system at the start, its single player so it isn't cheating im just saving time
yeah but im justsaving time, it just takes a lot of time to get an AE setup so why does it matter if it's single player??? It's because it ruins the integrity of the progression, which is the only reason to ever play a pack like this
Hey direwolf, love the videos! I watch quite a few of your series, and just had a quick suggestion. I notice you always plant trees on base level. Instead, if you plant them on one raised piece of dirt, it makes them more accessible if they grow short! Just something I figured id mention as it would save you time on and off camera wood harvesting early game.
here's a tip when mining. Early game, you're gonna need a lot of copper, as in industrialcraft it's needed for a lot of the components, so try mining on top of mountains to easily find it without digging down
Hey Dire. Neotech is pretty cool. I played with it in Unstable 1.8 & its a good tech mod. Not sure how much its changed since then but I built a sword from that mod that had looting 6. Here is a good tinker's recipe. Any binder you want, Knightslime tool rod, stone head, & an obsidian sharpening kit (obsidian can easily be generated in the smeltery from water & lava). The result is a cobalt level mining tool that can easily be repaired with cobble. Take care.
Building your home base in the mining dimension seems like a really good idea. Eternal day is good for farming, and no spawns above ground. flat and nice.
Hey Dire, if you put the pattern chest adjacent to both your stencil table and the part builder, then the stencil table will have a sidebar where you can put patterns directly into it, the same as how the pattern chest has a sidebar you can click the patterns stored in the chest from
+direwolf20, Basic Fluid Tank from Mekanism, you can switch it into bucket mode and pickup lava. I don't know how much it can hold in AoE but it's a nice early tool for lava transportation.
DW, might I suggest trash bags to help keep your inventory clear while mining. They are in the pack and are pretty cheap to craft early game. Later you can get dev nulls which are much better, but for now, at least your inventory won't fill up with stuff you don't need. Edit~ oh, btw, mekanism fluid tanks have a "bucket mode" where you can just pick up the fluid with the tank, like you would a bucket. super handy for going to get fluids. I found that you had to use (shift + keybind) to get it to toggle the modes though... just a fair warning in case you get stuck with it not wanting to change modes.
This modpack looks promising; I find it hard to get into tech mods because of balancing issues, and I like the fact that this tech pack takes place in a survival setting.
That blue tree is the best way to get torches early game for free since charcoal is hard. The berries it drops are amazing for things. Certus quartz pick is easiest way to get bauxite.
You're going to enjoy Integrated Dynamics as it adds new ways to monitor, control, and connect your stuff. That Menril Tree was great find as they're quite rare. Well the starting tree is. It produces sapling as usual afterward. #incominginventorycontrol
"i need a diamond pick to mine bauxite" "iron... has a mining level of diamond" direderp, iron pick is diamond mining level. the naming is confusing but i get the logic for it
I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying this modpack. Normally I don't like GregTech-like packs. But this age system (with the Guide) is just challenging enough that I have structure to aid my exploration of new mods.
that would be a fun pack. Direwolf's "i have no idea" mods. A few essentials like Refined Storage and Tinkers and then a whole bunch of crap that he's never played with.
Hey Dire of you put pattern chest in between stencil table and part builder. youl be able to acces it from stencil table and pattern builder directly, without needing to leave stencil table menu.
DOOD. mekanism has some really snazzy tech stuff. like 5x ore multipliers, it's complicated, techy, and I don't think you've gotten into it. also the obsidiean paxel is a great multi tool. fast, durable, and does every thing but hoe the ground.
I know this is an oldish VID but I watch the streams and your other series so I thought let's watch this one! Am living it keep up the great work man! 😆😆
Are there monsters in the mining dimension? If there are, I don't see the point going there to mine over the overworld - unless ores are more plentiful?
It's mainly for quarriying, so you don't just vdestroy your landscape with giant holes in the ground. Also you can disable monster spawning there in the config
Just a hint dire, diamond tier pickaxe would mean an iron pick, not diamond pick. Remember that the tier level does not mean what the pick is made of, but what it can mine
so, for armors, I've found that redstonia armor from AA is actually really good. like comperable to vanilla diamond. also those rubies you gathered I think ALSO make pretty good armor. and as good a use as any. *sage nod* lots of pro tips from DireDracat today.
Hey Dire :) Maybe you should look into making a rapier as a weapon this serie. a lot of monsters have armor. and because i feel you always use the broadsword so you would get something "fresh" into the serie :D
im talking about the gui, if you have it in between, the slots for the stencils appear in both tabs o.O without the need of changing tabs or exiting the table
I wish direwolf would cover the clay in sand or dirt to get rid of the water. It's so much easier to get clay if you don't have to deal with the water.
You can use 1 drain for 2 faucets, you just place a drain on the corner (like you have) then you just put 2 faucets on the 2 exposed sides of the drain.🙂 Like so Direwolf can see this.
Someone already mentioned the mining levels are weird in this mod pack. Iron is diamond mining lvl. Also the mattock is a shovel/axe/hoe, you didn't need to make a shovel although it will be better than the mattock
It's good to see you go outside your comfort zone, and maybe we'll see more variety in the dw20 packs in the future. Now we just have to fix that atrocious building sense you've got! :D
Osmium is a great early game tool making material. It mines every thing up to but NOT including obsidian. It has twice the durability as iron and an osmium sword has 2 more attack then an iron sword. Use osmium for tools and save your iron for making machines.
dire you can make tinkers pickaxe and put expanders on it so it will mine 3x3 but without the corners its better than what you have now and easy to make
is this gonna be your solo series rrom now? Cause the let's play is pretty much to the end and there are not enough mods to make a serious pack in 1.11
Gold always requires diamond tier pickaxe, just as diamond does. Iron pickaxe is diamond mining tier, just as stone pick is iron tier.
Oleg Lipnicki same for ruby
Yeah. A diamond pickaxe is actually obsidian tier. The tiers are named after a prominent ore they'll mine, not what they're made out of.
They're named after the most advanced vanilla ore they'll mine; or in TCon's case, the most advanced nether ore past Obsidian Tier.
Silly Dire :P Is this what w'd call a Dire Derp?
he does not know vanilla mechanics
Yup, definitely #DireDerp20 . And its not so much that he doesnt know vanilla mechanics (which is true, just not in this case), it's that he's unfamiliar with TheOneProbe. He is assuming that the modpack has made mining more difficult, like GregTech. I prefer WAILA myself.
The mattock acts as a shovel as well, that's why is assembled with a shovel head.
Il Batta It hasn't when I've used it in other packs. It's been an axe and a hoe. It will break dirt and the like, because you can do that with your hand, but if there are shovel-able things that need a higher tier, it won't work.
jediping FYI the shovel and axe heads can be different tiers so it depends on what you made the shovel out of
True, but as the mattock is a crappy axe and spade all it should ever be used for is farming.
To clarify, The mattock works as an axe, a hoe, and a shovel, but the shovel only works for grass and dirt type blocks (not gravel, clay, sand, etc.)
Edit: It also makes a decent early game weapon.
can confirm; for some reason, sand and gravel don't break well with the mattock making the shovel needful. Tiers:
Wood=Stone tier
Stone=Iron tier
Iron=Diamond tier
Diamond=Obsidian tier, etc etc.
You go one level down for pickaxe material.
It's a very misleading tooltip. Because yes, that's how it works, it's showing what kind of block you need to be able to mine to mine it. It just doesn't *say* that, hence Dire's confusion.

Jesus man, you make it look so easy every single time, and it doesn't matter how difficult the mod pack is, God!!!
Seeing Direwolf's Hotbar I can highly recommend an AIOT (All In One Tool), which is Sword, Pickaxe, Axe, Hoe and Shovel in one Tool. to teleport - you can use ftb utilities: /sethome and /home
so to teleport you can just cheat? sounds fun
Kingwut117 Teleporting in single player isn't cheating. It's just time-saving
would you say this pack is difficult in any way but the time you have to put into it to progress? It's still cheating the game. What if I just cheated in an AE system at the start, its single player so it isn't cheating im just saving time
Kingwut117 Where are talking about WALKING from point A to point B. Not a full ae setup right at dayone
yeah but im justsaving time, it just takes a lot of time to get an AE setup so why does it matter if it's single player???
It's because it ruins the integrity of the progression, which is the only reason to ever play a pack like this
When he said "we've got iron!" it reminded me of the Farmers Insurance ad, "we are farmers!" and then the jingle that goes along with it XD
Hey direwolf, love the videos! I watch quite a few of your series, and just had a quick suggestion. I notice you always plant trees on base level. "What's that blueish tree over there?"
My naive, wishful maiden heart, before being slammed back to reality: "SILVERWOOD?"
EightTimesNine Why must you remind me?
Mee tooo. I would be more upset if I wasn't laughing so hard at 10:10
If thaumcraft never got picked back up again, I would be happy. Sadly, last I heard, someone is working on a port. :(
Ibraheem650 _ thaumcraft is not open source, the ideas/mechanics belong to azanor, a port does not sound likely
Why? Nothing forces you to play a mod just cause it exists.
the arrow progress in the furnace is so smooth, quite pleasant
9:22 Direderp at it's finest
New favourite series. Gonna be looking forward to these episodes!!
Isn't Gold requiring diamond normal? That just means that you need iron pick because it's mining level is diamond right?
no
YES. It just requires a Diamond TIER pick, which, Flying sheep answered correctly, is an Iron Pickaxe.
@@robertvanwijk7311 you are wrong
Hey Dire. Neotech is pretty cool. I played with it in Unstable 1.8 & its a good tech mod. Not sure how much its changed since then but I built a sword from that mod that had looting 6. Eternal day is good for farming, and no spawns above ground. flat and nice.
It's crazy how little views dire get's for how amazing he is. Love you Dire!
the mekanism tank is SUPER useful. you can carry it around and use it as a huge bucket by putting it in bucket mode. completely freakin awesome.
Hey Dire, if you put the pattern chest adjacent to both your stencil table and the part builder, then the stencil table will have a sidebar where you can put patterns directly into it, the same as how the pattern chest has a sidebar you can click the patterns stored in the chest from

35:24 "at least we're mining faster than we were with a stone shovel" -Direwolf20
I'm missing the 9x9s already :P
EHC MineMadNut
rip 9x9s we hope to see u soon.............Old friend. :,(
Love the PSA from Direwolf at 1:55
"I even made it look nice." -Direwolf20 anytime he builds a basic structure with cobblestone
This modpack looks promising; I find it hard to get into tech mods because of balancing issues, and I like the fact that this tech pack takes place in a survival setting.
if u put your stencil table next to a pattern chest it can access it as well.
you can also make a cast with 2 gold.
That blue tree is the best way to get torches early game for free since charcoal is hard. The berries it drops are amazing for things. Certus quartz pick is easiest way to get bauxite.
Guys, direwolf understands the mining tiers, at least half of the time.
You're going to enjoy Integrated Dynamics as it adds new ways to monitor, control, and connect your stuff. That Menril Tree was great find as they're quite rare. Well the starting tree is. It produces sapling as usual afterward. #incominginventorycontrol
"i need a diamond pick to mine bauxite"
"iron... has a mining level of diamond"
direderp, iron pick is diamond mining level. the naming is confusing but i get the logic for it
14:29 yeah Dire, because we all know that you know how to use a shield. (Not meant to be mean, it's just well known that it's not his style)
Menril trees are your bestest friends -- remember you can use the berries to make torches (and not waste coal!) as well as eating them.
I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying this modpack. Normally I don't like GregTech-like packs. But this age system (with the Guide) is just challenging enough that I have structure to aid my exploration of new mods.
Its because of the guide that I play this since otherwise you wouldn't have any direction.
that would be a fun pack. Direwolf's "i have no idea" mods. A few essentials like Refined Storage and Tinkers and then a whole bunch of crap that he's never played with.
osmium is the most important ore for mekanism so make sure you grab all the ore you can find
Hey Dire of you put pattern chest in between stencil table and part builder. youl be able to acces it from stencil table and pattern builder directly, without needing to leave stencil table menu.

*gasp* DIRE'S FINALLY GOING TO FIGURE OUT HOW THE SMALL PLATE PRESS WORKS
DOOD. mekanism has some really snazzy tech stuff. like 5x ore multipliers, it's complicated, techy, and I don't think you've gotten into it. also the obsidiean paxel is a great multi tool. fast, durable, and does every thing but hoe the ground.
>has enough iron
>crafts clay bucket
I know this is an oldish VID but I watch the streams and your other series so I thought let's watch this one! Am living it keep up the great work man! 😆😆
Are there monsters in the mining dimension? If there are, I don't see the point going there to mine over the overworld - unless ores are more plentiful?
Ores are more plentiful
if i recall its 2x ores. also saves you destroying the land near your base (if you care about that) while still having quick access to mines
Lies. Ores are the same as overworld. The mining dimension is (and always has been) for servers.
Are you certain? i believe i have seen a higher percentage of ores in the mining dimension compared to the overworld in jei ore finder
It's mainly for quarriying, so you don't just vdestroy your landscape with giant holes in the ground. Also you can disable monster spawning there in the config
Just a hint dire, diamond tier pickaxe would mean an iron pick, not diamond pick. Remember that the tier level does not mean what the pick is made of, but what it can mine
when it says pickaxe (diamond) it means diamond mining level not diamond pickaxe, you can still harvest with iron pickaxe
Dire! You might love Mekanism stuff. I (with 1.7.10 version) had a five times ore multiplying system that ran off cobblestone.
so, for armors, I've found that redstonia armor from AA is actually really good. like comperable to vanilla diamond. also those rubies you gathered I think ALSO make pretty good armor. and as good a use as any. *sage nod* lots of pro tips from DireDracat today.
Funny thing. Aluminum was the older name for the ore. It was changed later to aluminium.
If you put the drains in the second brick row, the smeltery looks not even close as ugly as you can put the bottom layer into the ground..
Hey Dire :)
Maybe you should look into making a rapier as a weapon this serie. a lot of monsters have armor. and because i feel you always use the broadsword so you would get something "fresh" into the serie :D
why don't you put the pattern chest between the stencil table and the part builder? Than you can access it from both inventories
This... Everytime dire makes his tinkers set this tilts me Everytime
Its still accessible... you have your preference, Dire has his
im talking about the gui, if you have it in between, the slots for the stencils appear in both tabs o.O without the need of changing tabs or exiting the table
but you got a good point :)
I wish direwolf would cover the clay in sand or dirt to get rid of the water. It's so much easier to get clay if you don't have to deal with the water.
oh yeah, if you press c on the top of a block, it creates a crafting table, once you put the objects in the correct order, press c again to craft it.
4:15 and 12:41 and 36:54.
wow
The amount of DireDerp in this episode
You can use 1 drain for 2 faucets, you just place a drain on the corner (like you have) then you just put 2 faucets on the 2 exposed sides of the drain.🙂
Like so Direwolf can see this.
Hearing you say alumin-ee-um (aluminium) makes me happy lol, obviously I'm from the uk
Constantine and pig iron are both options you could use that are diamond or obsidian level respectfully
Dire, there's a command as, /top cfg. That let's you Choose the spot for the " the one probe"
this is probably pre recorded but get the mekanasim tank, it has a bucket mode
This! Looks like it's too late anyway.(besides being pre recorded). One of my favourite little features of mekanism.
Please make a mod spotlight about Integrated Dynamics!
dire you need osmium to get into mekanism and its one of the used metals in that mod it isnt worthless
2:37 Osmium is by default used to make most stuff in Mekanism, in AoE, I'm not sure how important it is
Osmium is a great early game tool making material. It mines every thing up to but NOT including obsidian. It has twice the durability as iron and an osmium sword has 2 more attack then an iron sword. Use osmium for tools and save your iron for making machines.
#Diretime
Integrated dynamics is good mod berries from tree can become torches.
every time he said tiny coal my brain went "TINY RICK!"
PICKLE RICK
Looks like an awesome pack I'd love to play it.
then play it...
Robot Raps! I only have a crap computer and know nothing about them so I would no where to start
Finally! Dire will "touch" Mekanism Mod :-) (in future)
They make specialised capacitors out of tantalum among other things.
I believe lapis armour is pretty good armour durability is low but good protection and last I checked it only needed lapis though it may have changed
dire you can make tinkers pickaxe and put expanders on it so it will mine 3x3 but without the corners its better than what you have now and easy to make
Osmium is the building block of almost everything in mekanism
Dire you could use a tp from ftb utilities
I really wish Dire would start uploading in 1080p and increase the bitrate or something i hate the pixelation that all his videos have
Why there was the same amount of molten clay before and after making casts?
Tantalum is a metal with a very (and I do mean VERY) low melting point.
30:18 no molten iron will not make iron block it doesnt make any sense it should make tungsten
Dire, try combining gunpowder and flint. stand back and toss it at a wall.
"but you already knew" from the voice in the background at 10:16
Age Of Empires yaay :D !
Area of effect Modpack
Applied of Energistics
Immersive of Engineering
ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
wololo
Osmium ore is a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll
brass is a cast material. 2:1 Copper Zinc
dire you are going to love calculator and mekanism
Just an FYI, osmiun can mine obsidian.
Is there random loot in lootchests in this pack? Is it possible to skip ages by getting the "right" item?
I can't seem to figure out how to mouse wheel with Inventory Tweaks either. I found the config file but don't know what to put. Does anyone know?
13:49 HE GOT the Actually Additions Manual by crafting coal!
is this gonna be your solo series rrom now? Cause the let's play is pretty much to the end and there are not enough mods to make a serious pack in 1.11
What if water collected in a smeltery thats open to a raining sky? that could be the worst.
dire really needs to make knightslime... make a knightslime pick and you'll never need a shovel or axe
Dire there is a cave near your spawn with a dungeon in ti
Stop! #DireTime.
I rate you 8/8 m8
thx u very much
Anyone else lose their shit when he said "you'll never catch me copper!''?
What is the chunk loader u used
How do you keep your claimed chunks loaded? I just started the pack and got no idea.
direwolf 20, iron pickaxes can mine anything on the diamond level, even in this mod pack.
can you use the quartz grindstone to get ores doubled?
