Hey, my steering wheel is going upwards and downwards easy, but it doesnt go towards me and inside, is the problem same as yours?
Well done Dean. This is exactly the reason why I will always come to you first for my e60 m5 issues.
You're the first guy to come up with real solutions to issues relating to this car, so many think they know what they're doing but don't have a clue.

I'm so happy you're doing this especially for me as I seemed to have bought my m5 about the same time you did. How mad is that. My m5 wasn't cheap unfortunately but I don't mind. Its a great car that I'm truly proud of and understand a whole lot more thanks to you.😇
I need exactly the module you are speaking of, but cannot locate an "SZM Module" for my 2006 M5. Is there an official BMW Part Number for the module? Thanks!
Hello Dean. Great work!!! I have same problem in my e60 525D. Do you have any errors in module that you change? In my car there is no errors in KBM SZM and SZM modules. Switch have signal but column doesnt work. My stering column first work only up and down an when i switch back or forward stop working for few days and then start working only up and dawn. I have plug in motror and have the same situation. And now steering column is dead. As i write in the begining i have check in inpa errors and modules are ok. Maybe i should check in ISTA? Please help Doctor:)

Can I have the part number? Mine moves up and down but not in and out. I can see the motor jerk to move but the gear doesn’t move so it’s getting power.
wish there was a way to do it manually my dad had a 535i and bought it brand new 2008 and the automatic wipers and column have been giving problem for years thanks ill try it out in the car.

I have the same issue in my e61. 535d lci 2008.
When I move the button nothing happens.
I also guess the motor is not getting any power.
But I don’t have the buttons in the mid console that you replaced.
You talked about when you move the steeringwheel switch it send signals to mid consol and then back?
But what consol do I have then? I have a ashtray and 12v ciggplugoutput in the middle.

Would you put a used steering motor inside your car? Would the dme not recognize the motor? Or would it have some weird electrical quirks?
My steering column has no power. None of the buttons or horn and blinkers works. Any ideas? All fuses fine.

I have an M5 07 and have MDM switch n not the traction control symbol with active bolsters n heated seats. My wheel adjuster motor works when I get in car then shuts off completely could this center console switch panel be my problem? Can’t find replacement online with the same layout as mine it’s an 07 M5 thx

my e60 is not worked steering column adjustment and cruise control.
I bring the car for BMW dealers shop.
but, bmw could not resolve the cause.
When the engine is started, it will be adjusted to the position that remains in memory, but not from the switch.
do you know the cause?

I have an E70 35D with the steering wheel now operating on an intermittent basis. It either doesn't move at all, or only tilts, and the functions become inverted too (when pushing for telescope out the wheel goes down, and vice versa). Would I be looking at a SZM module failure too? I've searched up and down the forums and Facebook groups and have not found any good answers.

Ive got a 2006 bmw e60 530i and my driver's side seat functions have died. Ive checked all fuses and all connections under neath seat. The heating and cooling functions buttons also died. But steering up and down fuctions stil work as wel as side mirror functions. Could you possibly point me in a direction

on my 2004 530i , I can still hear the motor spinning and a little grinding.. Is it true that sometimes the washer that spins back and forth down the spine gets stuck towards the top?

Congratulations! I think you have the first E60 M5 with zero fault codes. Well done!
That’s correct mate don’t just take my word for it you will see on the video coming up mate I’m very very proud of how this car has come out a cheap car and all repairs have been free or very cheap fixes and I cannot fault the car.
BMW told the guy 2k to fix just one of the issues forget the others that’s why the owner got rid and I fixed all of them for and now the car is green all over and I’m so happy.
I KNOW there ain’t another M5 out there with ZERO fault codes as it’s impossible to maintain these to that degree as a lot of people don’t have the knowledge and that’s why here in the U.K. people only drive them until warranty isn’t over and sell the following year but this car is so sorted if I wanted to sell it, it would be very very easy to sell indeed

No E65 runs completely different setup to E60
