  • Current members of the regrouped Geordie band 'Lindisfarne' perform a few of the iconic songs that made the band very famous in the 1980s. The performance was in memory of the bands late lead singer Alan Hull who died in 1995 aged 50.
A plaque was unvieled outside of the City Hall to commemorate the singer, songwriter, poet and working class heros work with the Tyneside band.

I was a big fan of Lindisfarne back in the early 70's and 'Nicely Out Of Tune' was one of the first music cassettes I ever bought followed by 'Live at Newcastle city hall'.
They were a bunch of talented musicians with some great catchy songs who epitomised folk rock and had a master song writer in Alan Hull.

Must be 35 years since I listened to these tracks. Amazingly talented and such a fresh sound. Nicely out of tune - it never was. Thanks Alan, Ray et al.

Great band. Run for Home was on the jukebox everywhere in 1977 or thereabouts when i was on a canoe holiday in Scotland. Later sAw the band live at Glasgow City Hall.
My sister says she saw them while she was at Univ in the early 70s. Supported by a band called Genesis. Wonder what happened to them.
    RIP Alan. Much too young.

I was introduced to Lindisfarne in the early 1970s by a Geordie girl in Zambia: she had to translate the accent for me, but I was soon hooked. Just been playing "Best of" in my car for days now - singing along to Lady Eleanor and Clear White Light, and of course We Can Swing Together in traffic. Love 'em still. Thanks!

The song brought back memories of love, loss and the fantastic period in the 1970's when everything seemed possible. I'm a Scouser, and have worked with quite a few Geordies and we've always got on 'like a house on fire' . Whenever I'm in the North East,I try and visit Newcastle, because it has a great buzz about it.
Good luck next season with our old manager !!

The 1970s were a great period. Life was less complicated, well so it seemed. The music was a big part of it too of course.. As a football fan from Newcastle who supports NUFC I have visited Liverpool many times and we always got on well with Scouse fans more than any other supporters in England. Rafa is a hero up here and I am sure he will give us a team to be proud of in the PL eventually, although it will take a bit time I think.

Thanks and it'll be a great game hopefully like some of the past encounters. It's a pity its been moved to the Sunday as that's the day I go on a 12 day holiday to Majorca so I won't be at St James for that one. I will find a bar with the game on TV though. Cheers - Al.

Alan was a Poet - My favourite song lyric/words of all time is from Lady Eleanor.:
She gazed with (the) loving beauty,
Like a mother to a son.
Like living, dying, seeing, being all rolled into one.
The opening of Lady Eleanor with those gently strummed chords and the organ in the background is like a Holy Song or Hymn.
R.I.P Alan - you're singing with the angels now.

Ray Jackson is/was always an under-rated musician, great vocalist who added some beefy blues tones both with voice and harmonica and wasn't bad on mandolin either ..never mind Maggie May/Rod Stewart.
