alan hull singing to his own people, i honestly cant think that any other band ever will ever generate anything close to the magic of the lindisfarne shows, it was a joy to be part of, rip alan
I was at this gig. RIP Alan As for the Mags, I was 13 years old and I went to the front of the stage proudly wearing my SAFC shirt. I got a few good natured boo's but everyone was top class. Alan Hull/North East - the greatest people in the world
I grew up with and shared many xmas concerts at Newcastle city hall with Lindisfarne (just saying the name brings back fantastic memories), PURE MAGIC ! Nowt better than a bottle of brown(or 2) and Lindisfarne ! Thanks lads :)
Sat in a Hotel in London feeling home sick and nostalgic. This video didn’t help. Flashed back to the City hall Christmas concerts of the late seventies, getting pleasantly numb in the Haymarket then wandering round and trying to smuggle some cans in to the hall. One memorable night Ray Jackson came to the front of the stage and announced that he wanted to see everyone down in the first four rows, oh the look on the bouncers faces. The best Christmas parties ever.
How we miss Alan. A great singer, a better song writer and special spirit. He brought us understanding, as well as entertainment. I hope the clear white light has guided Alan home.
Saw them at Chelsea village Bournemouth 1978 Chris Rea support, few people turned up...didn't deter this band they were Brilliant ..best party I've ever been to..
Thanks so much for uploading this. I saw these guys live many times in the 70s & 80s and this track just brings back so many good times. The best live band ever, god bless Alan Hull...
I was lucky enough to be there. Saw them 10 times or so inc xmas concerts... Fantastic show great memories...thank god for recorded images like these .
My first ever concert was a Lindisfarne concert, when i was 7 or 8, at Portsmouth Guildhall. I didn't really appreciate it, i just went cos my dad loved them and i wanted to join in and see what all the fuss was about. Listening to this now, and 'Fog on the Tyne' and also ' Lady Eleanor', i have to say, i should have appreciated it more! not that i'll ever admit it to my dad, but hey - it reminds me of my childhood!
As a London boy I admit gladly that this was one of the best live bands ever seen. I have had the great pleasure of seeing them live twice in the 70's.I am still very sad that Alan Hull has gone but I still listen to the music almost daily. T.J. Essex
Fantastic! Wish someone would find some more Lindisfarne - one of my favourite bands, and Alan Hull, what a writer, sorely missed. Thanks to anyone for putting any Lindisfarne on UA-cam! Alans "Pipedream" LP is still one of my favourite records.
Yes, I know ! Having picked my own songs tonight one by one I then laid on my sofa bed and let You Tube select for me but a/ I got the damned adverts which I normally only hear for a few seconds and b/ Apart from 2 selections they were poor new songs ibcluding one guy I ad never even heard of in my 66 years...:)
I saw Lindisfarne at the beautiful Auditorium Theater in Chicago on March 12, 1972. They opened for the Kinks. Lindisfarne did well, but after what I recall as the shortest between-band break I've ever seen -- couldn't have been more than 10 minutes -- the Kinks came on and did not disappoint their 3000 or so fans. "Lady Eleanor" was familiar to FM-radio listeners in the Chicago area at the time. I played their first three albums often on my college radio show in Iowa in the early 70s. In 73(?) I bought the Lindisfarne Live LP, which, because of its poor audio quality, some consider the worst live album ever released. I always liked it, though, even if it didn't include CWL. Fortunately, the "Definitive Edition" CD has the complete 1971 concert that LP only sampled, and there's a stretched-out CWL with bits of Buddy Holly and Bo Diddly thrown in for fun. Another version of CWL I like is on The Cropredy Concert (1997) even though Alan flubs some lyrics. RIP Alan.
They started off practising in a garage on the coast road in Wallsend. They then went on to playing in St Luke's church hall dance on a Saturday night. I was very lucky to be there.
Paul V. Montefusco Hi Paul you are obviously a music, lover 1972 lindisfarne came into my life the name comes from an monastery isle off the Northumbrian coast in the North Sea you can drive across when the tides out but so many people have got stranded ,Lindisfarne will always be special to me my no 1song is Lady Eleanor 2 Clear White Light 3 Run for Home
@finickity At prep school I was in the same class as Simon Cowe and Rod Clements. Three years later I went to another school where I was in the same class as Ray Laidlaw. Sting was a couple of years below us. Ray has remained a good friend for almost fifty years now and helped me during a difficult time ten years ago. They're a great bunch of lads. Glad you enjoy their music.
When I went to see Lindisfarne - at Edinburgh Playhouse - I was sure they'd 'open' with CWL but they didn't. I was intrigued by the wee square things along the bottom of the stage - I was in the fifth row from the front, and could see everything. This quickly changed when their final encore was Clear White Light as the wee boxes housed photofloods that were blinding people in 'the gods'. I was looking straight at them when they came on - about a fortnight later, I had vision! Saw them at Glasgow Green a few years' later - along with Runrig et al. Ace day, both times.
Brilliant, but sadly a few short months later and Alan was gone...however i do have my memories of god knows how many gigs by band members and solo including Bob Dylan at St James's park, a great idol of mine supported by our home grown heroes, for me it was Lindisfarnes show as much as Bobs.
Just dragged out my Lindisfarne Songbook. Looking the worse for wear after 37 years and still stained where the cat pissed on it in 74. She's Long gone and so is Alan but the songs still shine. Time to murder them again. Salutations to all who are enjoying this great band.
Only Alan Has Passed away he died in 1995 Rod clements is still gigging ray jackson now lives in oxford doing his art work but still plays gigs with his acoustic band. Si Cowe is a head brewer in canada, ray laidlaw is still gigging at the moment doing the lidisfarne story up and down the uk with billy mitchell a great show if you get the chance to see it plenty of the songs with a bit of banter off how the band got together
Billy Brown sadly this needs updated. Ray Jackson restarted the band in aid of saving the Newcastle City Hall. (Lasted two years.) Si Cowe is sadly no longer with us. Billy and Ray are on to a further version of the ‘Lindisfarne Story’, with a twist and the band is now being led by Rod and they are still singing these wonderful songs, and at the City Hall at Christmas.
Brilliant band, but I would say that I'm a geordie lol, part of my history and I bet a big part of many more. Alan Hull died so young, I wonder what we have missed.
Met 4 geordie lads here in London at a wedding a few weeks ago. What great lads with an amazing sense of humour and we talked about this band. Not many bands to match them.

Don’t let them fade into insignificance. Pure brilliance.
One of my favourite bands of the seventies. Totally original and unique!
Xmas at the city hall , made you so proud to be a Geordie v👍
Saw them in Belfast in Ulster Hall in the 70s. It was a dark time here and Lindisfarne brought something special. It was magical.
Wow great comment. They have given comfort to many over the years. I'm not Irish but saw them at a time of great distress and know what you mean.
Great comment, bonny lad...
My greatest memory of them preforming this song in their Christmas gig City Hall 1979 ❤
Saw them on a number of occasions , fantastic
Alan Hull, a rare and legendary singer/songwriter. Gone way too soon 🥺💔🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I grew up with and shared many xmas concerts at Newcastle city hall with Lindisfarne

Thank you for the upload , drove from south London to see them at the city hall, worth every mile. The balcony was rocking.
How we miss Alan. A great singer, a better song writer and special spirit. He brought us understanding, as well as entertainment. I hope the clear white light has guided Alan home.

Saw them at Chelsea village Bournemouth 1978 Chris Rea support, few people turned up...didn't deter this band they were Brilliant ..best party I've ever been to..
we used to sit and then dance to this at the Mecca in Sunderland in the 70s. Beautiful memories.
Thanks so much for uploading this. I saw these guys live many times in the 70s & 80s and this track just brings back so many good times. The best live band ever, god bless Alan Hull...

@@finickity That's good to hear Trevor.

I’ve seen a few bands and performers live but not one can equal Lindisfarne! Thank you guys! Bless you all. Such talent. ❤️🏴
I saw them too, but in Bradford, every year for a few year, happy memories!
Fantastic!
Wish someone would find some more Lindisfarne - one of my favourite bands, and Alan Hull, what a writer, sorely missed.
Thanks to anyone for putting any Lindisfarne on UA-cam!
Alans "Pipedream" LP is still one of my favourite records.
Is it still, my friend 12 years later ?
@@Isleofskye Yes it is! My ID may have changed, but I still listen to Hully and Lidisfarne!

Many thanks for this. I never got to see the lads at the city hall, but they did make the best band that toured scotland ever, Sorry Runrig,
I have always been a fan but saw them very late on and well after Alan had gone. He was a genius and they were a great band
