Sorry but that is very scary idea considering what Abstergo did in the games. However Ubisoft took a lot of the idea of humans being slaves to aliens from ancient Sumerian texts, so they must have a pretty expansive research department.

odyssey actually got me into the assassins creed universe. i think not being lore-heavy was pretty strategic on ubisoft’s part because i fell in love with the gameplay and then as the story unfolded, fell in love with the history embedded within the other games. i went back and played origins, and then bought valhalla the day it was released because i was so hyped. i already finished valhalla but now i’m going back and playing for completion (i want dem playstation trophies man). seeing all of the “hidden” scenes and plot lines for the assassin lore made me super interested to know everything i can about the games. out of all of the explanation videos i’ve seen, this one by FAR was the most in-depth and easy to follow. i realized now that this was a super long and overly detailed comment, but basically, thank you for establishing plot for assassin’s creed, especially because i haven’t been apart of the community for long :)
It was pretty strategic to get new players in but they lost all the people that loved the assassin stuff, I’ve heard way to many people say that there not even assassins in Valhalla. I like how this justifies my decision to stop caring about the story after 3. At this point you have to wonder why Ubisoft still call this franchise assassins' creed, like serious they could have just made a new game franchise at this point with how far they are from where they started and how far the stories head is up its own ass.

Here is the thing. Ubi is perfectly capable of making a historical aesthetic combat simulator that's fun an exciting... But misappropriating the AC franchise to do something very not AC is quite questionable and will not fly for some and that's fair
Yeah, it's one of those games that would benefit from a title change. The story was treading water a little bit during the Black Flag - Syndicate Era, it kinda got back on track in Origins, felt clunky in Odyssey, and is better now with Valhalla.
There's a twist I was fully expecting that never came : Abstergo is actually Assassins... Hear me out, Basically, with how hard we kick templar's asses thorough all games, I'm surprised they've been winning, or even SURVIVING this long ! My idea was that, with the Templars finally defeated, the assassins would set out to make the world a better place... and then suffer "creative differences"... One branch of the assassins would stick to the old creed at any cost, whilst another would adapt their method to the modern world, creating a schism in the order that, given enough time, turns into a full civil war on how to better the world ! I mean, look at Abstergo logo, does it look anything like the Templar symbol, or more like a modern take on the assassin's ? And before you state it could never happen : Al Mualim, leader of the order, fell into a mindset very similar to the Templars'... So did Abbas... The worm was in the apple from the beginning...

Which means anyone who plays said game will know what the assassins and templars are, and what they want to do. Like if you found out that Amazon was secretly part of a cult planning to rule the world I would care. By selling the game from the animus and then giving it to normal people they are telling them what the templars are. They probably don't think they are real of course but if they found out, that would be very bad for abstergo. Also the logo being a triangle doesn't mean it is a assassins logo.
Revelations has the best story I found in a videogame. To me that was peak Assassins Creed. I hope Desmons son becomes an important part of the story at some point. Thank you for this. I was so confused as to what was happening with everything. And rightfully so! So much happened that wasn't shown and the last few games have just had my head boggled! Hope Valhalla gets everything back on track for the storyline now. On odyssey - I honestly thought this should have been a standalone game. Not part of the AC franchise at all.
For those people who hated Assassin's Creed Odyssey. That game is a story about the ISU people and why the game had supernatural powers. The game literally explains itself
You can tell with not just Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla but also as early as Syndicate that Ubisoft has no real interest in Assassin's Creed anymore and would rather make mythology RPGs, which would be cool if they weren't attached to the AC brand, but they fear they won't make money without it. Literally remove the AC title and the animus elements and keep the games the same and you got these great standalone games.

Yo, I know you are busy. And have a lot on your schedule. But please make a video about why AC Golden Age Holland is a good idea. Keep up the good work!
I'd love to see an AC in South America set when the Mayan, Azteca, Incans, and conquistadors are there. A different culture in each group and decisions made can decide if your character wants to go with the Assassins and help the natives or with the Templars. The time period has never been shown in a video game that I know of. The mythology is interesting. The golden city of El Dorado would be beautiful. And I'd put one of the pieces of Eden hidden in South America with another with the conquistadors. I want to see a showdown between two pieces. We've hunted them down individually but what happens when each group has one and they fight it out using them? Or what happens when they've all been collected? @@sevenwhatuknow I think its more than that, yes that is the foundation of the story. What I find intriguing is the secret war behind closed doors. That is the part I am talking about
@@donaldcharles3331 I agree. It's at least the first 3 games were describing Genesis. Then they added on different features such as the assassin's and templars. I've done a fair amount of research on this topic over the years. I found a religion just called "mystery religion", which I found connects ancient Sumerian to the Greco-Roman. And it was a secret society that retained lost information and knowledge. And I'm sure it is still practices to this day via societies like Freemasons. Just like how the assassin's and templars know what's going on with the Esu(which were the Sons of God mentioned in the Bible and created Eden and Adam and Eve thru hybridization). Ubisoft definitely knows something
@@sevenwhatuknow read a book called cult of Mithras by Carl Ruck and the Immortality key by Brian Mursesku. These. 2 books IMO give answers to these questions that no institution or theology of our generations are able to give. I am a strong believer that the truth exists on the fringes of reality.
@@donaldcharles3331 could you please elaborate further ? This is fascinating. Do you know where I can do more research into this?
Wow, you are truly my favorite AC UA-camr.
Brings a tear to my eye 😪
@@WalshieYT1 that’s the tired emoji lol
I have played AC since the first one. For me the main lore stopped once Desmond died. So I enjoyed Odyssey for what it was- the best Xena: Warrior Princess game we're likely to get.
My theory us that desmond faked his death to fool the templars. He will come back and the final game will be an asassins creed that takes place in the present or not too distant future.
After Odyssey, expecting Darby to fix the lore is like expecting from him a miracle.
As much as I have hope in Darby, I agree with you because Odyssey did the unimaginable and fucked literally everything all up after the success of Origins
@@Agito4774 and how did they f it all up ?
@@Cibbic Just watch all of Odyssey's cutscenes including the DLCs to get a very abysmal experience and insight
@@Agito4774 I did .I've played it and trying to figure out what is wrong with it . To me I see it as how the order started and the impact it has caused to alot of people and how even if you stopped it ,is influencing others to carry on what the order started. Which is why I can't see some of the problems . Origins is my favourite though
@@Cibbic Origins is my favorite AC game too so you are not alone :)
I didn't like Odyssey at first, but kept playing it and it turned into my favorite assassins creed game. I'm currently playing Vahalla, but having a really hard time getting into it. I keep going back and playing Odyssey.
Outstanding job on this video... In 2007, I went from being nothing more than a part time, middle aged PS Sports gamer, to An AC Fanatic..I had been a gamer since the day 1 rollout of PS 1...But this series of games, this franchise changed everthing..2 things I had always enjoyed in my life had been merged together...History and Video Gaming.. But something is missing..The Altair and Ezio feeling..I hope Ubisoft brings it back...
I literally stopped caring after Desmond died
I have no clue on the story after Desmond dies, this helped.
Same, except i got lost 5 minutes into the post Desmond stuff. It all sounds like gibberish.
@@Pontif11 honestly it does sound crap doesn't it haha. Apparently in the new game there is a voice file of Desmond.
@@TheDragonaf1 do you care for spoilers?
@@paulburnell2610 Not really; i don't own the consoles so i always just watched the cuteness - if you do want to be kind then please do recommend the video with the spoiler in it or be cruel and say it outright now? I'll leave the choice for you haha.
@@paulburnell2610 Could you explain the whole series in a brief explanation? I played all the games myself dont worry bout spoilers. This video is hard to understand
Imagine if Desmond wasn't killed off and he had to find a sync nexus for Edward, Haythem, and Connor, like he did for Altair and Ezio. We could have a rogue like game playing as a young Haythem, and show Connor with his son, and maybe even see the events of liberation from his point of view.

Thank you! This part literally felt like a slap in the face after what the series was building up to.
A good analogy would be how marvel fans would have felt if captain marvel had defeated thanos, after introducing her one movie prior.
Ps. For me assassins creed went from 1-3. Every other game (may have a great story, may have great gsmeplay) is not true AC
I thought I was just a Viking, Valhalla was my first game lmao
lol you missed out
actually this way the game is 100 times more enjoyable, i loved odyssey as i felt like a spartan discovering the grec world like in classic god of war, i loved unity since i live in Paris and i enjoyed seeing the same city as it is portrayed during the french revolution, and it goes on with black-flag and syndicate, i just started valhala and i have the same thing in mind, just a viking messing around back then when butchring people was normal. i pretty much give zero fucks about a story that is so complicated it doesnt make any sense. especially when the story is about some devine beings and supernatural weapons that actually ruin the pleasure of true history.
Cuz they ruined it

I can’t let you say Odyssey was a bad game. After spending dozens of hours on it, I’d even say that it a a wonderful experience. For me the story, the characters, the gameplay mechanics, the open world, etc, almost everything was on point…HOWEVER, after having also played Origins and after seeing all those videos about the lore of the series, well…I can’t argue with the fact that it was a pretty bad AC game 😅
I understand why some people felt betrayed by this Odyssey now…If like me you don’t care that much/you just like the Greek world and mythology then you can enjoy the game without a problem, but I get why long time fans of the franchise would not like it
Here is the thing. Ubi is perfectly capable of making a historical aesthetic combat simulator that's fun an exciting... But misappropriating the AC franchise to do something very not AC is quite questionable and will not fly for some and that's fair
Yeah, it's one of those games that would benefit from a title change. Were it named something like "Mercenary simulator bc" or something, it would not have half the expectations stuck to it and would do better. And even setting it up in the same universe as assassin's creed without it being an AC game would work, ubi has done it before with watch dogs. I really like Odyssey, it's one of my favourite rpgs, but it's not a great assassin's creed game
@@yiklongtay6029 The issue is the phrasing you all go about it. There is a little bit of phrasing you all should start using or else developers and the IP owners will write off your "critique" as just disgraced old fans who are just too busy being anal. But I understand the idea of wanting to get back to the old cannon and I think the ugly reality that most fans are gonna just have to swallow is that. If Ubi go back to the old games is that they should be greatful and try and promote it as much as they can. If one comes out. As the only way ubisoft is gonna commit to an older styled AC. Is honestly if it can come close to the income that AC:V or AC:O did if it cannot an ugly reality is that the old style of AC games could very well get perma iced. Harder than what Anthem under EA has gotten.
Holy shit this went from the entire story of assassins creed to the best rant of Odyssey i ever heard.
I’ve been a big fan of and have played all of the AC games since the first one back in 07. I’ve enjoyed every single one, some more so than others, sure, but I wouldn’t say ANY of them are bad. Watching this recap brings such a sense of nostalgia. Great job putting this video together.
I’ve played all the AC titles, and it is sometimes tough to follow what is actually happening. This was helpful, thank you. However, I liked Odyssey. I know a lot of people don’t, but I appreciate it for what it is. Not a huge fan of Layla, but Kassandra is a great character and they made me care what happened. That’s good story telling.
For a standalone I agree as a AC game not so much
Clay's message to Desmond, "your son, too weak" does that mean his son won't be powerful even though he is the modern sage?
I think Clay was saying he himself was too weak to hold it together and keep talking, that's why he disappeared afterwards.
@@deLlama he did say "your sun" before saying " son" but will never know since Desmond's path is no more.
@@arthurmorgan9894 He said "sun" and "son" because he wanted to tell Desmond both about the sun and about his son. But he was too weak to keep it together and tell him. It was meant to be cryptic so it wouldn't tell us everything up front, but in hindsight it would make sense.
Followed this up to your rant on oddysey. Was literally one of the best games in the entire series
To be honest they should have ended the present day story after AC 3 and then just made games 100% in the past.
Or simply a spin off series and called it a day.
Or even made them memories of previous subjects ancestors
The Desmond series was such good narrative. Thank you for the recap and saving me months of game play
hands down best recap ive seen, amazing.
41:00 the rpgs
I REALLY hope that we get to play as Desmond’s son in the next game, I feel like it would only make sense
I mean AC Odyssey is what got me back into the series because it was actually fun and humorous, plus I like how different it is.
Same here. Never liked the AC series before odyssey. I tried to play them but they just felt so clunky and slow paced. I guess you just had to play them when they were new, back before we got spoiled with todays games and mechanics. Recently finished Valhalla and id put it up there with Odyssey, not quite as fun, its lacking alot of freedom in builds and armor but still great.
odyssey is really funnier gameplay-wise, but lore-wise , it was like stabbing the old fan's balls with a flaming needle
@@kumakaon9225 omg yeah it kinda is 😂😂😂
Randomly got curious about AC's story bc i stopped being invested after 3 and black flag. I loved this video so much. You really described it all so perfectly and i cant believe how off the rails the main story went after 3.
Holy crap that's exactly where I left off too. Found this video as a refresher and insight into the later games.
The mental gymnastics I have to do to wrap my head around the Odyssey modern day stuff is astounding. I'm so glad Valhalla put the series back on track. It feels like there's an overarching story again. The story was treading water a little bit during the Black Flag - Syndicate Era, it kinda got back on track in Origins, felt clunky in Odyssey, and is better now with Valhalla.
Ac odyssey is my fav game in the series. I love the story and the character development
They probably made it not look like the cross so people wouldn't accosiate them sith the templars
@@deadlydino15 Sorry to be an entittled brat but... "Sure ! Being associated with a knightly order from 5 centuries ago would be such a damnable offence !"
Since the Assassins basically figured out Abstergo=Templar within a month or so...
@@pierre-mariecaulliez6285 yes but abstergo uses the vr simulation they get from the animus and turn it into a game, then selling said game, which you could see clearly in black flag.
@@deadlydino15 they state in Black Flag that they would scrub any mention of Assassin vs Templar from the story in the marketable game
Still I wouldn't slap the logo of my evil organization on a large scale company for everyone to see
Revelations has the best story I found in a videogame. To me that was peak Assassins Creed. I hope Desmons son becomes an important part of the story at some point. It would be a great way to refresh the game if they are going to keep pumping games. I dont think they care so much about quality anymore tho.

No it doesn’t lul
You can tell with not just Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla but also as early as Syndicate that Ubisoft has no real interest in Assassin's Creed anymore and would rather make mythology RPGs, which would be cool if they weren't attached to the AC brand, but they fear they won't make money without it. Literally remove the AC title and the animus elements and keep the games the same and you got these great standalone games.
Imagine being this underrated as a youtuber when you make videos like this
I never finished the fate of Atlantis cause I really couldn’t be asked. so that’s for recapping that :)
Keen for the updated version after someone finally finishes Valhalla
Man the fact that desmond's part took up more than half of the video, yes he had the most games I believe but still, the fact that Unity through odyssey take up like less than 10 mins is hilarious.
First minute of this video is mostly why it’s also my favorite game franchise too. Good stuff bro.
i totally lost the story after they killed desmond... i really dislike their decision to remove the character in the “real life” and have some random people playing him, they should have just gone with another main character if they wanted to kill the first
Yo, I know you are busy. And have a lot on your schedule. But please make a video about why AC Golden Age Holland is a good idea. Keep up the good work!
A lot of people seem to love that setting too, I'll add it to the list!
@@WalshieYT1 can’t wait to see you cover it!
I feel like the games have moved so far from the original storyline it's causing even longtime fans like me to lose interest.
Here I thought you were doing it in chronological timeline when I read the title, boy was I surprised.
I liked this video because of the use of the cutscenes to add a nice breather to the fast paced info dump.
It let the video and the viewer take a breath without it getting boring.
We did it guys, we found the only assassins creed fan who deeply cares about the modern day plot and the technical limitations of a piece of sci fi hand waving.
