  • I hope I can help you decide which Ultrawide 21:9 computer monitor to get for yourself. This is a comparison of the most common ultrawide monitor sizes 29 inches and 34 inches. Dell U3415W is my new favourite monitor for quite some time now and will be for years to come probably.

    The twist on "that's what she said" you made at around 2 minutes took me a second to piece together, but my god, it was an excellent joke.

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  6 років тому +9

      The sentences have been always something like "Do you really need something that big?" or "Isn't this a little too big for ya?" or "Now mine looks too small in comparison".

      Really well-put. I might have to steal it for myself! BTW, I'm American but I like to think I'm okay with accents. You Finnish? Estonian? Your English is great so I'd guess Sweden but your lilt is just a bit too Baltic to be Northern Scandinavian.
      Of course I'm probably totally wrong and you're actually from the Faroe Islands or something lol

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  4 роки тому +3

      Well, of course UA-cam didn't notify me about your last comment for some reason :(
      BUT, you have a really good ear or you just guess very well. Estonia is the correct answer 🇪🇪
      How's the monitor situation over there in the US so far for you Warmly Calculated?

    One good use case for the 29in, is that there seem to be a few which can pivot to portrait mode. A lot of people (esp programmers) love a portrait mode second screen, and a 21:9 portrait screen looks awesome! For my first foray into 21:9 involves a 38in monster of a screen!

    I can tell you the benefit of the curve. As a programmer, I split the screen and put code on left side and browser on right side. The curve prevents me from having to turn my neck as far to see both the left and right of the screen. The difference is slight but over a long period of work, will prevent neck strain.

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  3 роки тому +1

      That is very excellent point Adam! That's is exactly why this size has a curve to begin with, just to be easier for the neck. Hope your serves you for years to come like mine has for 6 years now.

    The one you showed is 25'' and 34'' is high and difficult to lower unless you use a custom stand. positioning windows should be in the center and it is not possible in both. Where as a 49'' inch allows center + 2 on the sided + curved. So curious how you would compare a 34'' to 49''

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  2 роки тому

      The box on the table says 73cm and right under it is the model number that starts with a 29, so this is 29 inch monitor in the video, but to your other point: the 34" (which is on my desk to this very day actually) can be lowered to almost touch the desk btw, so no problems here with the height. I cannot compare to a 49" one, since I still haven't used one so far, but most likely I'm not going to either since this seems a bit of a ergonomic nightmare and also I'm more interested in the QD-OLED high refresh rate Ultrawide panels at the moment. Thanks for the comment tho Joe :)

    The price jump from 29" to 34" is not much, but to compensate for the reduction in pixel density, one would have to look at a 2K ultrawide 34" monitor instead of WFHD. That makes the price difference substantial.

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  2 роки тому +1

      That is a fair point Aditya and at the time of making this video I didn't realise that a 29" inch monitor doesn't come in 2K (or 1440p) resolution (as far as I can tell, I couldn't find any). I didn't bring the resolution into this video because then I would also bring the sitting distance from the monitor into the video and then the video would be 20 minutes long. I was hoping everyone would just assume both monitor are the same resolution in this video.

    I've seen many many videos about UW monitors as my 16:9 24" monitor recently broke I've had to buy a new one, a 29" 1080p UW, as the same resolution on 34" is "too pixelated" if you use the monitor for things like graphics and the likes, and 34" in 1440p is just too expensive (I'm not buying used monitors, I got no problem to buy used stuff, just not such newer monitors on the expensive end; I bought my old 4:3 replacement and holiday monitors used though, as I know they are sturdy).
    "Curved" _does_ make a difference by the way if you use the monitor for graphics. Just think of straight lines on a curve.. not easy to deal with :) So it really highly depends on the _main purpose_ of the monitor: Gaming? Graphics? Video Editing? Documents? Anything for business workflow, be it documents, video editing, graphics making, should be already fine in 29" straight/not curved (= less expensive) - of course 34" would give you even more space.
    Another thing most people not think about is that about 29" seems to be the largest (affordable) 21:9 screen in which you can have Pivot - turning the monitor by 90°, which is a blessing, not only for long documents or websites. That was another point for me personally why I chose the 29" monitor, as my usage of it is just different.
    Generally, curved doesn't seem to make a huge difference on 29", so I'd recommend curved not below 34" (many people recommend it as such, also on monitors on Amazon etc., and as it's a cost factor, it can be safely ignored on 29"). As for Gaming, curved seems to be able to immerse people better into the game, as 34" monitors are, as you know yourself, quite large/wide, so if the curved ends are pointed a bit towards you, that seems to improve on the immersion factor greatly. Same surely goes for watching movies and the likes.
    I don't want to criticize your opinion, but, despite what the majority in the comments say, for me personally this video was not very informative, comparably, to other videos about that topic I've watched. I also prefer information to be "more neutral", trying to see more perspectives, give people more alternatives, dependant on their very own personal usage scenario. But then again you're not a review channel, so I guess it's okay to present it more biased :)
    I understand it's just your personally biased opinion and experience and you wanted to keep it short and funny, but maybe I'm just not the type for "that's what she said" jokes :)
    TLDR: Due to the video title and the brevity of the video, I went into this video expecting more "neutral" information, more concise, more options, more info overall, but that's not your fault but on my end, expectation-wise :)

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  6 років тому +2

      I'm genuinely happy to see that you really took time to analyse what this video is and what it is not :) I totally agree, that this video is not that informative, but again that was not the intention (as you also noticed also), rather a "reaction/entertaining/few jokes here and there thrown in" video. I drew the line at the resolution side of things, since once I start to factor in resolutions of those monitors, I have to address sitting distances and so on, I just wanted to keep it short and simple.
      As for the 34" 1440p I completely agree that it is way too expensive and that's why I bought it used for 480€ (new 800€) and no chance I would drop 800€ on a computer monitor. The 29" I showed in the video didn't even have pivot, you got a good 29 inch there, good job. The curve radius on my monitor is rather small, so this probably affected my conclusion on the curve part as well. Thank you again for such a great thorough review of my "thoughts" video :)

    • @LapisDemon
      @LapisDemon 6 років тому +1

      I was really really hesitant to write anything at all, because we creators sometimes get enough crap from strangers in our comments as well as in real life, and I'm rather positive and nice to people, than negative and "bashing" them (unless they are e.g. bad or greedy people).
      I think I was possibly just upset that you made it seem like a general suggestion without really having the individuality of other peoples' use-cases in mind, and also that I went into this video with a complete different expectation, as I tried to explain. - And, I'm not prude at all, but the "that's what she said" joke would have been enough to be mentioned once ;) If you would have be a jester throughout the whole video, hearing an innuendo repeatedly wouldn't have me confused at all, but you really tried to speak your thoughts, where you are coming from, why you've made that decision to buy that monitor, so the "that's what she said" more than once somehow felt "unfitting", as you didn't come off like a guy who would need that "low" type of joke to make a point or to make it a bit funny.
      Another thing I forgot to mention: Your previous monitor was a 27", mine was a 24". You were used to a larger monitor than I was, before you bought your UW monitor. The (visible/screen) height of a 34" monitor resembles around the height of a 27" 16:9 monitor, whereas a 29" monitor got around the height of a 24" monitor. That's another reason why a 29" would suffice for someone like me, whose previous monitor was just a 24", and why it would feel so small for someone like you, coming from 27".
      - You really shouldn't thank me, like I said, I was really hesitant to write anything at all. This is your channel, your content, your way to express yourself, and as long as you're not a bad guy towards others, it shouldn't be a stranger's place to tell you what to do or what not to do, or it shouldn't really be important if they like your videos or if they don't, as long as YOU are happy with the outcome :)
      So, sorry again, in case I may have hurt your feelings a little bit or so, I'm also just a normal human being and got loads of stress in real life currently, which may have subconsciously led to that I felt I "had to" comment at all, although - I hope - I was still "human enough" in my criticism, and not a "b!tch" ;)
      Have a nice week!

All I heard was some really good constructive feedback, most likely the MOST constructive out of the 487 comments this video has so far. • @LapisDemon
      @LapisDemon 6 років тому +1

      Thank you, but both SoundCloud as well as UA-cam are just a hobby and due to real life (which I got to prioritise) I don't do much currently here online, but I plan to add more series/videos about Neurosciences, mainly psycho(socio)logy, which will also contain e.g. how we "de-humanize" others, specifically also in the internet, and may come off harsher than we would, if we would make a real life eye contact ;)
      To save you time, I try to make it short: I started off (like so many others) as Minecraft channel, to "balance out" the more serious topics I'm dealing with in real life/on a private sector. I show(ed) mainly the technical side of Minecraft on my channel, expressed aesthetically (command blocks which you can sort of "program" inside that game which I use for often mainly decorative things, and now also resource packs which give me the freedom to expres myself a little bit artistically via graphics).
      But many internet people who know me since years here from the web came and come to me privately with their real life problems, so I felt more and more that I should add more things, other than Minecraft, so I can help people on a personal, deeper level; that's why I'm currently in the phase of changing my channel, and I'll explain my reasoning in a future video, as soon as the real life stress has become endurable, and gives me some more free time to make videos again.
      But in my tea breaks I occasionally tweet something, be it about some stuff I create on Minecraft which I will release later, or about some cookie recipes or so ;)
      Incidentally, I roughly described the person I am (my interests and such, how that came to be) in the video which unsubscribed visitors on my UA-cam channel page get to see, the title is: "ChillTalk | My Synaesthesia ~1~ / My Hidden Messages to You", I think that would be a decent first "summary" of "me", if you really want to know.
      ^ And all of that just shouldn't have led me to criticise you on your video, as this is a bit "out of character" for me, so, again, my apologies, maybe my hormonal status blasted out my rationality/brain there for a little time ;)
      Take care!

      Fito Porsot Hellsing AMVS Thanks for voicing your concern Fito, people have different opinions about the curve and I totally get it, but the truth is you won't notice the curve after a short while. Honestly. The curve on basically every Ultrawide (with some exceptions) is so subtle that I swear you will be feelinng like it is flat display. Also for video editing, which I do every week for years now. Honestly speaking my bigger concern right about now is actually resolution, since for YEARS now I thought I won't notice the difference between 1440p and 4K while sitting a bit furter away from the monitor, but I did get a chance try a 4K 27" on my desk and I definitely noticed the sharper image. Since you are sitting a little bit further away compared to a smaller monitor anyway, then I would go as far as to say that you will perfectly fine with 1080 even when you are coming from a 27" 1440 monitor.

    • @grigory1110
      @grigory1110 7 років тому +26

      Nope it is not enough. I had LG 34UC79G, I could see pixels if I was sitting a bit closer to monitor, and image was not so smooth, ppi in 1080 34 inch is around 80, it's way too low, after my laptop which has ppi around 117, that was very noticeable difference, so I had to send it back to shop where I bought the monitor. However, when it comes to gaming 34 1080 is enough, and it feels so awesome, it is very different gaming experience, in a good way of course. If gaming go for 1080, if everything else but not gaming go for 1440

    • @grigory1110
      @grigory1110 7 років тому +3

      I mean, gaming on 1440 34inch as long as you don’t need 144 Hz is ok, I suppose. Anyway you still can lower your resolution while gaming, also go to shop and see 34inch first cuz I don’t think you really realize how big it is, may be you do, but I didn’t before I bought it(even after watching those reviews pictures etc.). If you don’t need 144 Hz, then go for 1440, but if you go for 1080, there is a great chance that you will be disappointed with resolution and image quality as I was. As coding is important for you, so you need to deal with a lot of text(code) sometimes, fonts on 1080 will look a bit squarish (square), you will get a feeling that fonts consist of many squares and fonts will be very pixelated(sorry idk how to describe that feeling you need to see it yourself)

      Hey Jesus! I don't really get the question because 34 inches is equal to 34 inches. I guess you are maybe asking about the height about the monitor? 34 inches is a bit lower than 27 inches from the eyesight.

    • @KowaiMaou
      @KowaiMaou 3 роки тому

      Necroing this comment, but what Jesus wanted to hear was that:
      Yes, a 34 inch ultrawide is effectively a stretched 27 inch screen.
      Likewise, a 29 inch ultrawide is a basically a 24 inch stretched screen.
      A 25 inch ultrawide would then be a 21 Inch monitor, stretched horizontally.
      So when watching videos at 16:9 on a 34 inch screen, it should be roughly the same experience as on a 27 inch monitor.
      Which is basically what was already said in the other reply indirectly 😐

You have done a great job.Really helped with my decision.I do a little bit of html for my college,pictures editing and lots of writing,so the 34" screen will do the job for me.I am upgrading from 24" screen so i guess this thing is going to leave me breathless :D plus i think ill be fine with distance as i sit about 1 meter away from the screen even more. thanks again!

      Hi again. Today i have received my new monitor. At the end I've bought the LG 34UM88C 34inch 3440x1440p.I got it brand new for a fair price of 580eur.Well i know, expensive piece of equipment,but I've prepared myself emotionally already from your video here :D I was considering lots of options and watched few videos suggesting the higher 3440x1440p resolution as its quite a big panel.Yes,it was 100% worth.The picture is crystal clear,font is really sharp.I sit about 80cm to 1 meter from the screen.Absolute game changer for a student and multitasking and same as you, i'm not gaming too much.And of course after taking it first time from the box it had the "woooooow" effect included in the box with it :D Thanks once again for your help.All the best!

      Yep really a whole different story comparing to my old 24inch screen,a big space all of a sudden :) I also had to re-adjust the mouse settings as it took too much work for my wrist to move the cursor from one side of the screen to another and attached laptop.I live in Dublin,Ireland but here they are still sold about 150eur more.Luckily for me i found the alzashop.com and they have them discounted now.Have long years of of good experience with them.Its shipped from Prague for 15eur to whole Europe i think. Is it only me or i have just made a great advertisement for them right ?! I would say its almost worth some discount coupon for my next shopping ?? :D

      I am. Now I'm thinking of what to choose between these two models: Samsung S34E790C or AOC U3477PQU. Both have excellent colors (and that is what I need in the first place). But AOC is flat and Samsung is curved... And since I sit not so far from monitor I'm inclined to choose Samsung.... But www.trustedreviews.com praised AOC more because of the quality of the screen... So now I'm confused a little bit.

    can a 1060 with 6gb handle a 34" 1440p for some casual 60 fps gaming?
    I was tempted to go down to 1080p (which the 1060 should be fine with) but I would mainly use for productivity though so I am worried that text will be blurry and "pixelated"... I have seen many saying that it will be fine if you stay far enough, how much is far enough? 50 cm?

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  5 років тому +1

      I would say maybe 60-70 cm would be fine, but honestly I strongly recommend going with the 1440p monitor since your use case would be mainly productivity and not gaming. Trust me. For gaming mainly, yeah 1080 will keep your frame rates higher but for everything else you want a crisper image. I would say the same - 1080p will be too pixelated.

    Curved is hopeless for creative production. No images is curved, it's a pointless gimmick and it messes with any autentic aspect ratio. I get the super wide concept, that's practical in some scenarios. But having four documents open side by side and seeing the leftmost and rightmost document curve is totally stupid. Who needs to read text in a curved angle? Get a flat super wide instead.

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for the thoughts, but you don't even notice the curve while sitting in front of the monitor. On this particular Dell the curve is so subtle, that even IF you remember that you are sitting in front of a curved monitor, you don't notice ANY kind of screen angles or distortions. I promise you. I actually regretted the sentence in my video: "You will NOT notice the curve in a couple of hours", I would love to change it to "minutes" actually.

    Hi Siim, now since you have lot of experience with monitors, im looking for some suggestions. I'm in need of ultrawide, 29inch will be a sweep spot for me. Concerns are - they are mostly avalable in 2560x1080 resolution giving out 96ppi. Will that be easy on eyes. to diminish the pixel identification i suppose it should be at 34inches far from eyes. Are you able to read text (for 6-8 hours a day) at that distance comfortably ? Also, i'll be using it in grayscale mode and in split screen. 3 screens at max. so what options do you suggest ? Should i go for VA or IPS. Budget is a concern. Also, typing this form 15 inch screen 109ppi. so u have an idea of the kind of upgrade experience i can have.

    • @SiimKuusik
      @SiimKuusik  Місяць тому

      Hey Nssandhu4401, 1440p in 2024 in must! Don't do 1080p for whatever screen size you end up going with. I would recommend 34 inches yes, for the reasons I mention in this video. The more high resolution you go the more eyes will thank you. I guarantee that. I personally would love to get a 4k Ultrawide with the same features that my current 34 inch ultrawide Alienware 34AW23DWF has, but these don't exist yet. Also I think you have it confused a bit of why to sit far away from the monitor: the resolution is not determinating why you should sit closer or farther away, it is the SIZE of the display itself. People sit far away when it is a big display, because they want to see all of the display (all corners) with just moving the eyes and not the whole head. The more high resolution you go the easier it is to read text. IPS is better for color than VA and in 2024 you can get a very budget friendly IPS monitors also. No need to go VA. Happy to answer some more questions if you have any.

      Yeah, not big on gaming here still (this video is from 2015). Regarding the table this 1 meter times 2 meters roughly. Got it from a local furniture store here in Estonia. Where do you live Just DO it DO it Now?

    Just think, (2) 24" (which are actually 23" screens) monitors gives you a display area of about: 41 inches - subtracting the frame between both monitors. So for around $400 have a 41 inch screen.

      You are absolutely right Bobcatt22 and I mention this also at the conclusion part at the end of the video. What setup are you currently rocking?

    I was only here for 29 inch monitor but I'm a tab monster! I might need a 34 inch lol 😂

      Yeah, after 7,5 years I am still on a 34" monitor and the tab situation has gotten even more ridiculous for me. Are you also the same way that you are checking all of the tabs daily once or are you the Tabs = TO DO list ?
