  • I'm gradually re-making videos with audio instead of annotations for those who prefer them. Split rings are great because they are so useful. They let you change direction with your tatting, enable you to move from round to round of a pattern without having to cut, tie, and start again (split chains are also great for that) and are generally a versatile design element.

Finally, someone who makes sense! Thank you, I've been struggling with split rings for a while, but you explained it beautifully

I taught myself some very basic tatting years ago (rings, picots, chains, Josephine knots), and now, decades later, I've discovered your UA-cam channel. Split rings, split chains, SCMRs, magic loops; my goodness, I had no idea these techniques even existed! I think it's time I buy some new thread and shuttles and start learning again. You have a new subscriber. Also, I really prefer these videos with the voice-over instead of the annotations, so thank you for making them.

Hello, yes, there are lots of techniques available to tatters and we are lucky to have internet to discover them. My new videos are all speaking ones so I hope you enjoy them. Thank you for your comment!

Thanks for the wonderful video - Would be nice if you could have included your way of handling picots within the 2nd half.

Ermagerd! I'm new to tatting and have been avoiding patterns with these because I couldn't seem to quite figure them out. I've watched a few of your other videos for reference and my mouth literally dropped open when I watched this on lunch! That's genius!
Thank you so much for such a great explanation!

That's great! Thank you for your comment Nm. I know a lot of people seem to think split rings are difficult but I'm glad if this helps to show they are not as they can be so useful! :-)

Great thanks. My second shuttle arrived today so I have been able to try this. I am successful, but my hands need to get used to "split ring" fit!!

I followed your instruction on this video, but when time to finish the ring by pulling the main thread of the ring, it won't budge......where did i go wrong? Please help me :(

Hello, you have to make sure the stitches are "flipped" on one side of the split ring and NOT flipped on the other. If any of the stitches are done incorrectly, this will prevent the ring from closing. It's easily done to accidentally flip or not flip when you don't intend to. Perhaps that's the problem?

Your shuttles are so beautiful! Where did you get them?

Hello Adriana, I make the shuttles I use in my videos. I regularly have some for sale in my Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/shop/lacossette) though they tend to sell quickly when I list some so there are none to see at the moment. But I hope to have a few more ready by the end of the week. :-)

I have been watching and enjoying your videos as I increase my understanding of tatting. Unfortunately the volume in this video was so low, I could barely hear you despite the volume being up all the way on my computer and your video.... :(

Hi Anne, I don't know what's wrong as I've just been to watch this video and the sound seems fine (or no lower than on my other videos). I do try my best to speak close to the microphone when I record and I'll keep bearing that in mind when I make new ones! Sorry if this one doesn't work for you.

Could you please make your tutorial more visible by adjusting the camera. Not able to see what you are doing
