Awesome! Thank you so much. I just bought a used Sony deck, different model but very similar. I was having trouble replacing the belts until I watched your video. I got it working now and am very happy! Wish I had watched it first.
Thanks so much. I have the identical deck. My deck started screeching during playback before eventually being unable to playback or eject. Got replacement belts off eBay and followed your instructions and now all is well!! Had to replace a belt in my Sony MinDisc deck too, wouldn’t eject the disc!
Thank you . this was the info i needed to fix my sony tc-wa7esa. It was locked in the play position and doors would not open. After setting the gears in the proper position it is up and running.
Great video! I've got to replace the belts on my Sony TC KE200 which is the same generation as the one you've demonstrated so I guess the transport will be the same. The belts are on their way and I'll be setting up your video to watch while I do the job. Thank you so much - sick of shut-offs and mangled tapes, but probably wouldn't attempt to fix it without your help. Now, if you posted a tutorial on how to replace the pinch-roller . . . . ;)
they use the same mech. Even the same PCB. only difference just some extra components on the board for the 300/400. Pinch rollers are easy, they just clip out.
@@Sortitoutman > Thanks for your reply, I thought they would probably be the same across the range. As for the pinch-roller . . . I hadn't looked closely at it before (except to note that it was pretty cracked) and assumed I'd be up for some major dismantling, but thanks to a torch and the trusty dental mirror I see that it is - as you say - a clip-fit straight into the armature. Fabulous! Many thanks for the heads-up on that one. :)
Hi, can you please explain the right position of the white cog (cam gear) with the black arm, it has also a spring. Is the right position when heads are down? But they are also down in forward or rewind position, so how can I know? I have the tc-ke 500s cheers
Hello! I own the Sony TC-K461S model and I think I have about the same mechanism as your model in the clip. Can you tell me, please, what are the dimensions of the 2 changed belts? I have to change them too, but I found different sizes at online sellers, even though I looked for the code in the manual. Thank you in advance for your answer!
Nice video, do you have any tips on doing the 3 belts on a TC-K677ES, just got one used and it winds forward and back but not engaged the head to play, the belts fell a bit soft I think so I'm just going to do all the belt its about the same age as this one is this video.. Everything else inside looks good. Do you have a video on this mech for the TC-K677ES and do you advise to always check the azimuth? do you have a video on that? I purchased a belt kit with pinch rollers, should I just do the pinch rollers or leave the stock ones in your view?
Good advice and guidance; I've the TC-K415, that is almost, if not, identical. I've removed my belts for now. The large flat one was oily, possibly caused due to long term storage, and inevitably, overstretched. I didn't see you spirit clean the large metal flywheel rim which mine will certainly need; perhaps my comment will help too? Thanks!
Trying to align the white large cog, but when the tape advances or tries to reset, it just shakes 3 times and then gives up. (With fresh belts too.) What could I be doing wrong?
This video will help me repair my TC-KE500S as they are quite similar. There is quite a bit of melted belt on the gears. What can i use to clean the gears? Thank you.
Yeap, all the late model Sonys use a variation of the same mech, TC-K /KB etc. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the belt residue, you use this to clean the heads etc as well.
If memory serves, thats a TCM400 so similar layout as in it has an assist, mode and capstan motors that need belts, its not a direct drive model as on some ES models like the 6ES
I replace the belts but the capstan belt doesn't want to center, drifts off to one of the side of the motor spindle drive wheel. This results in a higher flutter and a lower speed, not great. Any ideas how to fix this issue? Thanks for any answer.
did you pull the capstan out to clean it? If so theres a little plastic washer that goes back on the end in the tape bay to stop it sliding in and out causing belt runout. check its pushed all the way up to the back shell whilst pushing the capstan towards thetape bay
I still don't understand why they made 90s era machines like that with belts that disintegrate into black jelly, while at the same time I've taken apart decks---usually made by Panasonic---from the early 70s with original belts that sill worked fine.
Could you help me to repair the tape sensors (CrO2, record and Metal tape ones)? Sometimes they don't detect any tape on the deck, don't recognize metal tapes, and, at worst, make the whole mechanism going into a frenzy mode rewinding or forwarding, playing with a kind of hiccup and no music, making a horrible noise or trying to chew my tapes to finally getting blocked not allowing me to eject the cassette. My deck is similar to yours. Thank you.
Theres a row of reed switches along the top, they may have plastic covers on them, slide these off then give the switches a clean with some good quality switch cleaner. Re-assemble, all should then be good.
@@Sortitoutman Thank you. The covers are somehow loose and tend to drop. I added just a very small amount of silicone sealant and now the whole stuff works quite good (not perfectly but it's way better than nothing).
Thanks for a very well produced video. I have the TC-K715S It hasn't had much use from new . Has been stored in a room and just powered on and off every year for last 15 years. When I pressed play last year nothing happened ie the captain doesn't engage. Could this be the belt ? Just tried it again and the eject does not function. There is no tape in. Any advise appreciated
Belts will have perished, the mode belt will have failed and its locked in "play" which is why it won`t open. Just needs stripping down a good clean reset and new belts and pinch roller.
@@Sortitoutman Many thanks for your reply. I've got the belts on order and will report back hopefully when I've fixed it. Looks like I will need a pinch roller too.
I have a TC-KE500S that needs new belts. Would the TC-KE400S belts be the same size. Also do you know where I could order belts. I found a guy on ebay but they are in portugal. Do you know of any in the states. Or maybe I could get them from where you are from. Thanks for the help.
Yeap, they would be fine the "guy" in portugal is fine for the belts, you have no problem if you buy from him - not much point me sending them over him as I`m in UK anyway!
Where did you order the belt, i just hope I orderd the right one, cause the last one i orderd was square but to thin, and i put it back together, and I pressed play and it just fast forwarded the tape nothing else
