Would have picked this up, but that constant two page spread is a deal breaker for me.
This book is on the top of my 'next buy' list but I'm trying to hold off for a decent deal. But man, seeing your comment about the double page spread.. that's genuinely pretty bad how they have done it, with so many images too. With it being a big hard back, I would imagine it's difficult to open them flat to see it better without damaging the book too. Over all are you happy with the purchase?
Absolutely agree about the 2 page spreads. It’s something I hate most about art books, I really don’t know who thinks it’s a good idea?? Complete deal breaker for me, thanks for your review.

Instead of those brain dead two page spread, why not have the image laid out on one half page as a landscape (as they did with so many other images in the book) and have close up/detail images laid out on the same spread (with the same layout style that most of the book was laid out), thus keeping the art intact, but also bring the detail to focus.
I have made some layout work in my past, and to have any image spread across two pages is always dubious and to be avoided. To see this done in an art book is mind boggling. Especially a book this thick. There are book bindings to alleviate this issue if you MUST have those two page spreads, but the cost of those compared to even excellent quality traditional book binds is stupendous. Not sure if they first had one of those in mind, but when seeing the finances decided to pivot at the last minute.
Thank you for the review. Love Mr. Ejsing's work, but will (reluctantly) pass on this book.

I hate art photos on 2 pages, with the middle part unseen unless you rip the book to pieces.
An excellent book if you love everything that makes "fantasy" fantasy
