Thank you so much for breaking down the differences and similarities of the the Cannon 1300 & 1500. I have been trying to figure this out and wasn't having much success until I found your video. Still can't decide what I'm going to do, but I'm leaning toward the 1300.
Ordered the 1300 after this review, many thanks. For me, the battery was a fraction of the price on the 1300, and the pop up screen and buttons was a bonus.
Great video, you covered all the important bits. Also, I love your outro - comparing the print speed on the way out was actually super helpful. Looks like I'm sticking with my 1300 for the foreseeable future.
super helpful! I love how unbiased this entire review is. i decided to go with the 1300 because i like having the ability to print via USB, i don't always have a c cable lying around
I just ordered the 1500... unfortunately, I'm just not watching this video. Best Buy only had the new one. I hate that the old features were removed... I would have loved to zoom into the picture and have external buttons. I hate when they remove things from updated devices. This sucks
Canon is a pretty stupid company with occasionally non-annoying products! I wish their products would improve 10%, not get worse by 10%. If I ran Canon, it would be a GREAT company (am not kidding).
Thank you for doing this. You covered everything I would want to know. I was surprised to find that for me, the older 1300 is the one I want. I prefer the older USB port, the extra buttons, the tilting screen and definitely the ability to zoom in, (who konws why they decided to get rid of that function in the new one).
Problem all small usb like Mini or micro gets wobbly with the time and lost connectivity. Even usb a has that Problem. USB c? Has not that Problem even after years of use
Thank you for this video. I just did an event (I'm a photographer) where I had a photo booth and was printing out images as took them. I borrowed a DNP printer which is way more expensive than these printers. While I don't print photos on site often, I was looking at the selphy to purchase so I'll have my own in a pinch. A lot of the differences doesn't apply to me as I will be using a computer and Lightroom to view and print photos. Speed is the most important thing. It's hard to tell on the video but I think the 1500 is about 10 seconds faster. Night not seen like a lot but when you have people hovering over you, waiting for photos. I want that extra 10 seconds. So I think I'll get the 1500. The DNP printer I borrowed prints in less than 20 seconds per print total. Compared to almost a minute per print with the Selphy printers
Your DNP printer is definitely more suitable for a pro gig like yours. You also need to think that it could take about 20 seconds from the moment you press print on your computer to the moment the printer starts it’s job.
Are you still able to print mini prints with the 1300? I have the 910 and it's now not recognizing that there's ink in it. I am constantly printing 3x4's and 2x3's The 910 lets you do that. That is an option I must have.
An excellent review which is very well organised and well delivered. It is useful for me as I have been wondering which to get. On the basis of your review, the CP1300 looks the better option, particularly at the lower price. One question - how is the CP1300 set up? You show the CP1500 set up and say it is easier, but how is the CP1300 set up?
Thanks! The setup of the CP1300 is very similar to the CP1500 apart that they won’t show you any QR code to scan. It’s not the most intuitive but once you did it, you won’t have to do it again.
I worry about older tech being phased out/not supported - Do you think that's worth considering when comparing these two when you're looking for some longevity out of it? Considering the 1300 is six years old?
Very clear review and straight to the point ! Love it ! I am considering buying one of these two printers but the only downside I see is that you can only print larges pictures (10X15 cms). Could you please recommend a printer with same printing quality that allows printing multiples sizes ? 🥹🙏🏾

Thanks for this very good review. I will just stay with the 1300. I thought the 1500 "satin" would be really satin but I see they just replaced the pattern 1/2/3 from the 1300 with "semi-gloss" and "satin" in the 1500 but it does the same thing.

Hmm.. If the printer will not move past the Canon screen, it could mean there is not enough power or there is something wrong with the printer itself. You can try unplugging the printer from the power and pressing the power button 10 times while the printer is unplugged. Once the power button has been pressed 10 times, you can plug the printer into a different outlet and then you can try turning it on again. If the printer will still not get past the Canon screen, it would mean there is something going on with the printer's hardware.

physical buttons are nice to have but it's not a deal breaker and as for the zooming feature surely you can do that sort of thing on your mobile phone or computer, you don't really need your printer to do it for you, although it would have been nice to still have the tilting screen on the cp1500. Overall they seem to have similar features and the print quality is excellent on both machines
Hey i need a response immediately please. A seller on amazon has this marked as an inkjet printer. Is this a mistake or does canon make an inkjet version of this printer?
You have also this satin finish in the CP1300 and even more, you have 4 types of finish in the CP1300, glossy one and three different patterns for non-glossy finish. Selphy CP1500 has glossy finish also but only 2 patterns for non-glossy finish, attending to the product manual. I don't understand this product, same prices if not more expensive but less functionality. Someone at Canon's marketing department thought it was a good idea to give less for same or more money. It's our responsability as customers to get informed before buying products to get the most for our money.
Thanks for the info! Indeed Canon didn’t invest too much effort into upgrading this printer apart from the esthetics. I suspect that one of the reasons is that there are no real competitors.
I wanted to get the cp1500 for non glossy finish but liked the extra buttons on the cp1300. thank you, now I know that the cp1300 has even more options for a non-glossy finish. can you please tell me what other finishes are available on the cp1300 ?
@@printerinsider I would love a version with 13x18 cm or 15x20 cm papers for bigger prints. There are other options for that like DNP or HiTi, but too expensive for home use

I have the selphy CP 1300 in white and I rather that one than the newer version. I used it at a church fundraiser and we made good money with it. Noone complained about the quality.
I bought the CP 1500 and im disappointed with the print quality. I dont know how you did to have superb photos like that ( took with a phone ? Editing ? ) because mines are very dark, a blue ish tint and blurry...
I should mention that the 1300 is a good printer, but does need twice-a-year maintenance. If Canon improved the physical mechanism, probably making it 10% bigger, it could be a truly great little printer! They crammed too much function into a small case I think they just need to use better materials (metals) for the printer mechanism and make the printer a little bigger so youc an clean it + keep it going longer. They shouldn't care- their money is made on the ink carts anyway. In any case if you're good with electronics don't be afraid to take this guy apart. It's pretty easy to deal with, clean, etc. Q-tips and rubbing alcohol go a long way.

@@jan.tichavsky I agree, having to carry the huge power brick they included is not very convenient.
physical buttons are nice to have but it's not a deal breaker and as for the zooming feature surely you can do that sort of thing on your mobile phone or computer, you don't really need your printer to do it for you, although it would have been nice to still have the tilting screen on the cp1500. Overall they seem to have similar features and the print quality is excellent on both machines
Is this better than Fujifilm wide printer?
I never had one but if you are talking about the Instax wide printer then these will provide a much better image quality than any Instax printer.
What size sd card can it use?
It uses a regular size one, not the micro SD.
is this battery powered or plug and play?
The battery must be purchased separately.
Great review thanks. Good to know about the satin finish!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, quite helpful.
Thank you 🙏🏻 you are so great thank you very much❤❤❤
THANK YOU!
@@nats92lilac I answered you with link but for some reason UA-cam deleted. You have the detail in the english manual, page 40. You can access online to the PDF of the manual for the CP1300.
@@kike5537 thank you so much!
I have the selphy CP 1300 in white and I rather that one than the newer version. I used it at a church fundraiser and we made good money with it. Noone complained about the quality.
The quality of both of these printers is great and hard to beat at this price point.
At the event did you feel it printed at a good enough speed to keep up with the people waiting?
Great review!
Thanks for your support!!
I bought the CP 1500 and im disappointed with the print quality. I dont know how you did to have superb photos like that ( took with a phone ? Editing ? ) because mines are very dark, a blue ish tint and blurry...
That may be more the quality of the picture itself. Check your camera settings and try using a different camera.
is there any driver cp1500 for windows xp, pls help, thanks
stop using xp it isn't safe
It's interesting that other reviews say the older models tend to be better than the newer models.
Even after printing many times with both, I still can’t notice a difference.
Thank you. You have a nice cat.
