      Lol if this was a normal knife made of hardened tempered stainless steel you would hear it squeaking and crying super loud as it was bent and it would eventually start to glow red, if he was bending it over and over as fast as he is in this video.

      45 bucks for my Explorer that I gave away after 10 years to thank someone and now I have the Evolution 23 Delémont (Victorinox/Wenger in 1) and it was 65 bucks.
      And it never feels like I paid too much for them.
      The only thing I ever break on Victorinox are the scales because I can be clumsy and drop them once every few years.
      But the tools never failed.
      Great value!

      swiss army knife is a style of tool not a brand, a generic term used to cover all brands and versions of this knife, Ill make a video talking about generic knife terminology, like how people call all fixed blades buck knives, lol

    • @happymark1805
      @happymark1805 10 років тому +13

      cutlerylover I hate to disagree with you but a real swiss army knife only is made by victorynox or wenger, v=Td_K6rsn8y4, made in switserland, first ones made in 1884, 8 years ago victorinox took over wenger so all real swiss army knifes are now made by victorinox all others are cheap copies not even worth looking at

    • @ThatSpeakerofTruth
      @ThatSpeakerofTruth 9 років тому +8

      cutlerylover Will just reiterate other commenters since there wasn't a reply. Indeed, "Swiss Army" knife is an actual trademark shared by Victorinox and Wenger until being acquired by Victorinox a decade ago. Now, the only legitimate "Swiss Army"-branded knives are made by Victorinox.
      Admittedly, the brand is prominent enough that it is arguable whether it can be used as freely as "chapstick," "aspirin," or "escalator," is another worthwhile question. Indeed, "Swiss Army" is still trademarked which may or may not be true in certain areas for trademarks like those above that have at least become generic de facto. But, more importantly, in terms of its use in vernacular, "Swiss Army" still conjures up images for virtually everyone of a red pocket knife with the Swiss cross on it, whether specifically Victorinox's emblem or not.
      This may be a cycle where this association persists with trademark protection, but the fact of the matter is that "Swiss Army" is iconic. ChapStick or Kleenex did not, or perhaps can not, manage to maintain their icon, which is well enough because there are only so many ways you can distinctly manufacture and package lip balm or facial tissue before it becomes ridiculous. Enough competition exists that if "multitool" had been originally trademarked "MultiTool (TM)," it likely would have already been absorbed as everyday language as easily as "dry ice" is now. While this, as I mentioned, can be questioned, the argument surrounding it will ultimately be pedantic. A Swiss Army knife is, both de facto and de jure, a brand held by Victorinox and recognized most commonly by their pocket knives. It would resemble the argument that citizens of the United States not be referred to as "Americans," since America embodies North, Central, and South America. It is arguable but futile...everyone already understands what "American" means.
      You can probably refer to similar knives accurately as Swiss Army-styled knife, pocket knife, multi-tool, or (most effectively, in this context" any take on "Swiss Army knockoff" or "Swiss Army counterfeit." It is completely understandable and defensible that it people would be confused if you use "Swiss Army" or "swiss army" generically. It is not yet generic _enough_ in both language and law; by that, "Swiss Army knife" has been used to refer to the style of knife generically, but beyond no-name, small-time, or counterfeit products, it always leads back to Victorinox or Wenger's Swiss Army trademark.
      At the end of the day, it comes down to *competition*. And given the Swiss Army knife design is not especially innovative or appealing enough today for other companies to encroach on and compete with, since customers look emphatically to Victorinox for their reputation and consistently quality products, it probably will continue well into the future if little changes in Victorinox's registration of the Swiss Army trademark and the world of making, selling, and buying pocket knives and multitools.
      Thanks for the video though! It was hilarious how terrible that knockoff was.

    • @happymark1805
      @happymark1805 9 років тому +4

      ThatSpeakerofTruth The problem with most American people is that they think everything thats not American made is junk, over here in Europe we made high quality stuff even before Amercia was founded (or even was found by Columbus or even the vikings before that). Americans forget their roots, and that is Europe.
      So comparing some chinese junk with high quality stuff made in Europe is just plain stupid, even comparing a lot of American made junk to our quality made stuff in Europe is just stupid, a lot of American people still have a lot to learn.

      happymark1805 Actually, I think he's poking fun at the fact that a de facto "american designed and packaged" product was obviously made in china with extremely horrid quality control out of materials no one in their right mind would actually make into a tool you would depend on with your life on the line. McGuyver would never have trusted such a shoddy piece of work ... he had the real deal in his pocket.

      In my opinion while I own many Chinese affordable products, it should be illegal to make knock offs, posing as an original product from another company that actually has quality. And also importing cheap Chinese stuff and rebranding and selling in another country. Because that is deceit and immoral
      China makes great products and also horrible and fake products, one needs to know what they’re getting into, but it’s inevitable that many people will be deceived and robbed of their hard earned money ......

    There should be a ban enforced on crappy Chinese products (or crappy products in general). They are unusable and lead to tonnes of unnecessary waste and pollution. Enforce quality; if you want a decent product you pay for it, and with it you get a guarantee/warranty. Protect your neighbors workplaces and wages, and make shitty products illegal.

This company won't last long and the knife will be soon out of production because of how shitty it is. You don't need to ban it to make it go away. And if anyone was dumb enough to buy it expecting to get a good knife they deserve the shit they get.

      Spyderco Byrd.

    • @CaptainBill22
      @CaptainBill22 10 років тому +10

      It depends on the company. Like Stark Clark said some Spyderco knives are made in China like the Byrd series. Many high end mass production knife makers like Kershaw (parent company of Zero Tolerance), Boker, SOG, Ka-Bar, begrudgingly Cold Steel, CRKT, Buck, and Spyderco all make some models in China. Granted they use cheaper steels, cost less, and are generally not as good as the product from the company's home country but they're no joke. Some of the best knives I own like the Kershaw Cryo II and the Kershaw Leek are made in China and are rock solid and high quality. Both of the knives cost around $30- $40 but you honestly cannot go wrong with them and they're fantastic EDC knives.

    • @nasiraliclark
      @nasiraliclark 10 років тому +3

      Some Spyderco branded knives made in china use premium steel also (not talking about the byrd series here). If Chinese quality is so bad, then why does the majority of manufacturing happen there? It would be fun to see you empty your house of Chinese made products, I'm fairly sure it be near enough empty.

    • @WhatTheSkara
      @WhatTheSkara 10 років тому +10

      Chinese High End products cost just like European or American High End products :P it's their low cost products that are really dangerous (like this knife)

    • @ghosthead2008
      @ghosthead2008 10 років тому

      Stark Clark Because, it's cheaper to manufacture (see: outsourcing) in China, than here in the US. As for other things like electronics, these types of products are made under strict guidelines, and are usually made with slightly better quality materials. Not "great", but "just good enough".

    All small folding multitools regardless of brand (leatherman , victorinox , wenger .. etc ) can be broken with side to side play . This tool has the advantage of being cheap ( about 1 dollar ) . I have 1 too . After it is sharpen I use it to cut envelopes and boxes . That is 1 dollar well spent in my opinion ( instead of breaking the tool ).

    I HAVE THIS EXACT MULTITOOL IN MY POCKET RIGHT NOW. Except FAR better-made and SO much more useable. (Also the handle is pink.)
    Seriously, every tool is in the exact same place (except I don't have the toothpick and tweezers, I lost those, but I think they lined up with the body the same derpy way), and looks almost exact same (except the corkscrew, which is more round, the fish scaler, which just looks a tad different teethwise, and the saw, which has offset teeth and actually looks like it can go through wood... although I haven't tried), but it's much sturdier- I don't see any tool on it bending (Heck, I've even tried, and I don't think I'm a weakling, but none of it even bent, even the corkscrew), and it's far more useable.
    The only problem I have with it is that the retaining mechanism is actually a bit stronger than I'd like for most tools, except- funnily enough- the almost-useless-for-my-purposes fish scaler, which is a tad loose. But oh well, it works pretty well regardless.
    And yes, it says STAINLESS STEEL CHINA right on the blade.

    I have a cheap swiss army sort of tool, it's a advertising for outdoor magazine, and it's yellow, and made in China, I'm not sticking up for Chinese made products, but I really don't use it that much, just around my desk to open a envelope or use the scissor, s, and sometimes I use the toothpick, but this one isn't too bad, from the outer appearance it look's like it was made good, like I said I don't use it rough, but so far the edge seem's to be holding up good, would I pay for it more than what I paid for it ($0.00) nope, I believe you get what you pay for, but for a el cheapo seriously it's not bad and worth the price I paid for it.
