That felt extraordinary. At one point, with the drone footage and you flying downhill on skis I thought "what an amazing time to be alive - that's just one guy, having an adventure, and sharing it with armchair travelers. It wouldn't have been possible 50 years ago." Thank you.

I was just thinking how funny it is that Rocko can race ahead of @ForestyForest for a day's worth of skiing only to start playing with rocks almost as big as she is as soon as they establish camp. What a cool dog and the perfect companion for Simon.

@tmwk15 He explained that in the video back in 2022 when he first got her. "Rocko" was a wallaby animated character in a Nickelodeon series, and he said that he always liked that character. I believe that the video where Foresty first got Rocko is called "A Girl Named Rocko". She was so unbelievably adorable at only 11 weeks old.
I definitely recommend that video if you have not seen it.

I've been tour skiing for over 20 years and the frozen boots can be remedied in 2 simple ways. 1) Wear giant ziplock bags over your socks then put your foot in the boot, this will prevent moisture from soaking in and freezing overnight. This is fantastic and stupid cheap for multi-day trips. 2) Boil water and put it in a water bottle that can fit in the boot to soften/warm it if you don't want to wear plastic bags on your feet. and for the secret #3) buy battery powered boot warmers, pretty good takes a while for them to work as I put them in my wife's boots when we go out and turn them on an hour before we're ready to go.
But I LOVE this ski touring aspect of your channel now, so happy you made this jump
If I could add another it would be to bring the boot liners into the foot box of your sleeping bag. Then adding a hot water bottle to the foot box as well makes for toasty toes in the morning.
Definitely take the liners out and put them in the sleeping bag, the hard plastic boots, no worries. I’m loving this new aspect to the channel.❤
Handwarmers in your boots, 1 hr before departure. Then put them in your gloves 'til your fingers warm up, and keep them handy for when you are messing around with cameras and drone.

I ski toured in the Sierra Nevada mountains for a number of years. Used plastic bags over socks and good gaiters back then. But now, battery powered boot warmers sound wonderful after waking up in a cold tent in the snow.
Foresty never ceases to surprise me with his skills and knowledge. I had no idea he was a skilled skier. Those aren't beginner lines lol

When my dad was young he did few overnight ski hikes. Over half a century ago, they had leather ski boots and thick woolen socks. The wool would dry on the feet overnight, treated leather boots kept shape naturally… He started taking me to ski with him, I was not 5 yet, right in from of him, holding on to his legs, my skis between his, screaming my lungs out. Rocko reminded me of that time, I was just as happy ❤

Yeah, the old leather boots were amazing. Unfortunately they led to very complex fractures of the ankle when things went wrong. Despite the hassle I prefer more modern gear.

Foresty, watching your videos from the past few years has inspired me to not necessarily do what you do, but retire early. I'm on track to retire in less than 4 years, before 50, and live my life in pursuit of peace and happiness.

You've got to be kidding me... drone footage while skiing downhill??!? Now we've seen it all from Forest with amazing night sky captures, heartwarming dog interactions, and outstanding outdoor adventures. Despite all the other amazing vids, this is definitely one that stands out!!
By far, this is the best UA-cam channel. Much of Foresty's videos could be legit episodes on the Discovery Channel. Keep up the great work, Simon!

Agreed. Ticks are really no joke. Good thing you kept the body of that tick so the medical personnel can have an accurate idea of what the risks are.
Is there anything you don't do well. I know you said you skied as a kid but you look like you have done more than that. I love the full laughing it brings you. I did wonder when you left your boots out how that was going to go in the morning but now you know. As someone already mentioned about the ticks, please stay on top of that. Some of the symptoms are some that you have mentioned in the past so want you to get back on the correct meds if it starts back up. Stay safe and warm. Thank you for taking us along.

For your freezing cold boots I would recommend purchasing disposable biodegradable hot packs I usually get them from Costco. I'm a snowboarder and what I do sometimes after I'm done for the is I crack a couple of them open and throw them inside my gloves and Boots to help dry them out if I don't have Access to some kind of heat Source.

VBL. Vapor Barrier Linerss between your foot and boot. I made my own out of coated rip stop nylon. It’s just an oversized sock. They keep the foot sweat from soaking into the boot liner. There is no cure for rigid plastic boot shells, except sleeping with them. Good video..THanks.

As for the multi-day ski touring…..boots come inside the bag with you at night. Have a small snow brush handy to brush off every bit of snow off the gear you bring inside the tent and especially that which goes in the bag. I put my boots behind my knees. If using a double boot system obviously just the inner boots go into the bag. You should generally have 2 sets of socks. One set for skiing and one for sleeping. The ski socks will get wet in use but that's ok as long as you moving. They can go into the bag at night too to keep them from freezing and also to dry them a bit. Just make sure you keep your sleeping socks dry and don't get lazy and use them for skiing. It'll only feel nice for a few minutes and then you'll hav e 2 sets of wet socks. Make sure you air your bag out in the sun each day before starting, if only for 15-20 min. This will allow some of the water in the bag to evaporate and keep the bag reasonably dry and maintain the insulating qualities over many days. Sleeping long johns are also a plus. Turn your tent inside out each morning before packing it away to get rid of the accumulated ice from your breath at night. Modern fabrics and gear are a plus but good solid winter techniques are also vital. My background was US Special Forces and I've spent many a month in arctic in Northern Norway.

That drone footage of you skiing down those wide slopes was so cool. It's amazing to see this ability to ski emerge out of nowhere. I can just imagine 16 year old Foresty loving the heck out of this kind of ski run. Watching Rocko plunge her head into that frigid stream made my head ache in sympathy. What a little rock monster she is. You named her well! Say, I LOVED your narrated replacement of the fan bearing. The closeup shots let us watch and benefit from your tips and explanations. Please do more of this kind of casual instruction. You wouldn't believe how valuable it is. One question: how do you figure out the name/number of the part you need and where to buy them? If I can't walk into a parts store and rely on the expertise of the people behind the counter, I'm completely baffled. Great video, Foresty. I only wish I weren't sitting here slightly shivering in my own house while watching you in these snowy places. haha!

What an absolute delight to watch!. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer, was how bad I feel for the utterly boring life I gave to my dear dog for the 15 1/2 years she was alive. Rocko must be thanking the Heavens for having been adopted by you! My dear Penny would have loved all these adventures. but alas, she only got walks around parks and farms and suburbs. Seeing the Majesty of the West is a wonderful joy in life!

Excellent video. I was hiking in the North Coast mountain range. Between Portland and seaside. I ended up pulling a tick off my neck. And five off my dog. But we're fine. No rashes. But ticks are no joke I'm glad you went to the doctor. Rocko is adorable. Safe travels.
