    thank you for this video. if there is black residue in the inlet holes (beside injectors) or at the swirl flap should i clean this or will scrap fall down in the engine? is the air going from the center of the engine to the front (flaps, egr) or is the air coming in at the front?

      You can clean it and blow it out with a airgun, but be sure the valve is closed of which valve youre cleaning.

    Does 2010 v70 have those flaps? Basically same engine but i have electric oil level

    most people just delete swirl flaps, any benefit to that? Also your's looked clean AF meaning maybe you didn't have to replace this at all

      This was what the customer wanted.

    Hi Nicholas good video i'm in the same dilemma with my 2010 XC90 200ps D5 ie when i bought it the swirl actuator rod was disconnected the flaps move freely so i reconnected the rod. But my dilemma is instead of removing the flaps which i am not confident to do myself would it do any harm to just secure the arm in the flap open position?

      Thanks!!
      You can try it and see if it gives any fault codes. I think it does not harm.

      I believe if you leave the flaps open, you won't get boost pressure. The actuator arm broke on mine and the flaps got stuck open; car wouldn't have any throttle response over 2k rpm. Would struggle to get to 40mph.

      @@thewaywardgrape3838 swirl flaps is needed only on low turbo charge. in full charge they must be oppenned tobgrt a max of air. If you block its closed the car will be in limp mode

    If the swirl flaps were free but the link arm was worn allowing it to fall off, why didn’t you just replace the link arm with the modified link arm from Volvo?

    • @MechaNick_
      @MechaNick_  9 місяців тому +1

      Thats the right question. The customer wanted it all to be renewed.

      @@MechaNick_ there are probably dozens of cars running round where the actuator arm has dis-connected. Performance may not be optimum but is it adequate? I would be tempted just to fix the swirl flaps open. What problems will that give me?

    • @MechaNick_
      @MechaNick_  9 місяців тому

      @@julianporter5 not sure. Might give you an MIL, or you can fix it open and get it tuned/chipped.

      @@MechaNick_ If it’s just a code you can read with Vida it won’t matter. If there is a bit more air into the piston by keeping them open it will make up for the restrictions caused by the massive amount of carbon deposits in the intake due to the EGR! Vdash doesn’t offer a tuning option for swirl flap removal but maybe there are other tunes which do. I think a bit of experimentation would help first.

      @@julianporter5 hmm that sounds interesting! I dont know where you live but If I had a diesel the EGR is one of the first things that I would block off and get programmed out.

    new comment: do you have a link on where to buy a set of new swirl flaps?

    • @MechaNick_
      @MechaNick_  11 місяців тому

      Hey! Thanks for your comments :)
      I got the parts from my local parts shop. But if you have the VIN number you should be able to find it on autodoc too.

    is this the reason why my S80 was having poor acceleration after driving it a few miles until i turned the car off. after i let it cool down was driving normaly again. but now the car has poor acceleration always. it doesn't come to normal acceleration. should i clean the egr ? i have no errors lights. Thanks!

    • @MechaNick_
      @MechaNick_  Рік тому +1

      Hey! Theres much causes. Could be the egr, could be swirl flaps, turbo leak... You can always check the swirl flaps by pulling of the little actuator rod and checking if they can turn. Also you might want to get your injectors tested.

      That rod I found it loose and I put it back but same issue...swirl flaps are turning
