After the CXM and going back and reviewing all of the other CB pedals, owning the CXM and having the Preamp MK II on the way... I’d say Joel from Chase Bliss is the greatest genius the pedal world has ever seen. He’s the most forward thinking. He would be working for Google or Facebook but thank god he makes pedals :) Along with Meris, he has created pieces of technology that allow you to have every option and somehow control every parameter, like an engineer would be doing for you in a studio. Now, at home, you can record guitar, vocals, drums, bass, synths, keys...any instrument you want and not just tweak it until the ends of the universe, but control pitch with literal perfect tracking and absolute perfect hi fidelity. I don’t think most players realize why these pedals are expensive. It’s because they are not basic guitar pedals! They are more musical/studio tools in a guitar pedals format. I actually think the prices are low for what you are able to do with these. In the 1980’s, it would of cost thousands in tack gear and studio time to achieve any of insane tones from several Cb pedals like the THERMAE. Joel talks about them the way a software designer explains how an computer works. They are extremely ahead of their time and someday soon, someone will come along them to create a masterpiece. It’s like when they gave Jimi Hendrix a Strat, a Marshall, a FuzzFace, Uni-Vibe and an Octavia. Look what he was able to create with just that alone. Imagine the album Jimi Hendrix would put out if he had Chase Bliss pedals....

This is not overpriced. It's a lot of money but this is a versatile piece of gear in a rather reasonable space, with good quality parts, well thought out features, asthetically well designed, combining traditional components in an innovative, interactive way. To me it's certainly more of a niche product, but that's not a bad thing. What I really appreciate about stuff like that is that it gives you options within its structure that may very well be uniquely inspiring. To reshape the midrange in real time, like in mid song if you will to go from bright and chimey sounds to dark and full "wall of sound" type tones, to include the fuzz and its gain structure in real time adjustment, just to switch to another preset, maybe midi engaging effects in the LOOP... I think this is a piece of gear that has a great potential to inspire you to do things, compose and play that you may not have considered before or normally wouldn't and that's something I really appreciate in my gear.
I see a lot of people commenting about the price tag on this thing.. but really 750 isnt that bad when you consider all that this thing does... think of how many pedals it could replace...I mean i could probably get rid of half my pedal board if I added this thing... which would be great for a gigging musician(which im not i just love pedals) my current pedal board weighs a ton. But really think about it ... I bet this thing has the sounds of at least 6-7 drive pedals in it ... most of my drive pedals were between 160-200 a piece.. and you get the motorized faders and all the other cool functions.... i kinda feel like this thing is a great value when you consider all of that.
A sturdy all-in-one thing that doesn't break as easy? Indeed, worth the price. And even if you're not a gigging musician, less space for pedals means more space for other toys.

The person who asks himself "what happens if I pour beer in [my own product]" after developing a number of 21st century tech onto guitar pedal IS THE definition of an passionate entrepreneur. This type of CEO knows from the get-go that the people using this pedal will probably be very passion-driven themselves if he has a product to match their level of passion: the very first thing he has to know is what happens to it in its 'worst case scenario', cause we already know what it's capable of in its 'best case scenario'. The pedal of the future is probably a stretch, it’s basically just a DAW controller on the floor. It’s pretty cool though. It’s fundamentally too expensive just due to expensive components to become mainstream enough to be the future me thinks, it can be done with different technology to bring the cost down and quite a few companies have already been doing that for awhile. I like that’s is mixed digital and analog.
I love this concept! Arguably, I would think another reason for the high price tag is that it seems like it could replace pedals/make several pedals obsolete. If a player has this, it can be their wah pedal, their volume pedal, their fuzz pedal, their boost, and more. Definitely seems like a way of the future. As an analog lover, I love that the future is analog!!!
I used to drool at this this type of gear. For me the helix solved my needs and I'm very content with very little need to explore other gear for a while.
Honestly, Chase Bliss totally deserves this publicity. They make awesome pedals that create a kinds of different sounds. Great video! Do some more reviews on Chase Bliss! I recommend MOOD
For real, you can get a Pod Go, which has volume, wah, eq, amp, cab, and any 4 pedals from the entire line 6 library. And you would still have about 250 left over to buy expression pedals and extra footswitches, allowing you to get even more out of it.
@@paulmdevenney People who are afraid of the word "digital" (usually not fully comprehending how it works). People who think "quality" and "price" are the same thing. Marketers who reinforce these notions to make a high-markup sale. It's worst when big-name musicians (Jack White, Neil Young for example) comment on the technology, mixing half understanding with half myths together. I might buy a Neil Young record, but I'd never consider his "Pono" music player. As for this review by Paul Davids... it seems like a good 3-in-one Wah/EQ/overdrive. 20 years ago before digital multi-effects had matured, it might have been a decent value for a few hundred dollars. $750? Never.
Before you mentioned the price, I was thinking it would cost about $500, and even that's more than I would be willing to spend. For $750, I could get a used Deluxe Reverb RI, and keep the multi-effects unit I'm already happy with. No motorized faders, but my patches save and recall just the same. It's a clever gadget, but really, take that one gimmick away, and what else about that pedal is ground-breaking?
The argument that you could buy other equipment works with any product. I mean, of course that's true. I think what Chase Bliss does better than other makers is digital control of analog circuits. Take away the motors and that still is true, you're going through a full analog path, not chips. Now...that may mean something to you or not. I love my Strymon Riverside and it certainly is 90% digital. Now if you asked me if this unit was more innovative than say, the Chase Bliss Brothers pedal that could be a fun argument.
Give me one good sounding midi controlled overdrive pedal on the market? There isnt. People (like me) with pedalswitchers can use midi control. If this does sound great I can remove 3-4 overdrive pedals and get this instead. More tone control is good for studio and live performance. Less weight is great for traveling. Also if removing overdrive pedals less powersupplys are needed. Less money, less weight, less room on the pedalboard, less room for power errors.
Just stopped by to say you Rock. Capital R. You got me back into playing after I lost the drive, and gave me reason to pick up music theory. Wish I would of had these videos back in 2004.
So i had a little financial luck this month and i said to my girlfriend ill add it all to my savings account. You guys have any tips on explaining why its back to zero again?
If any single purchase would require all my savings I wouldn't pull that trigger. I'd save up until I had at least double to tripple what it costs. If by that time I still want it that bad, then I go for it. But that's just me.
6:40 "Now, the mid frequency range effect is very small" *Pushes the sliders to get a wah-like sound* Well, this pedal only wants an expression pedal input now. Gonna make a feature request. WELL, GUESS WHAT!
I have one already, and I can honestly say that it's so versatile that the price tage makes a lot of sense when you actually spend time with it. It can replace easily 4 other pedals on my board, which even leaves budget for a midi controller on the side. ;-)
Right. Gladly it is a brand new amp (part of). Just without some things you might want to add, so what‘s the point? I know people spending 70000 Euro for an Audi and how stupid is that. (To me...) Buy it or don‘t.
I totally get what you're saying. That is not merely a "pedal" in the fuzzface/tube screamer sense. I can totally picture building a travel rig using that as the foundation. Sounds amazing. Can you plug directly to the front of house without an amp?
I spent the last 10 months laughing at this thing... I came to laugh, but I stayed to pray. It's incredible. Between this video and That Pedal Show's video, it was a no brainer.
Hey man, I noticed you have a small stutter as well. It's barely noticeable but from one stammerer to another can I just say thanks for not editing it out and wearing it as it is. It's inspirational.
Again a great video. I think I can say in the name of everyone here that you are one of the only one who keep guitar alive. Great source of inspiration, would love to become as good as you and develop my channel too !
Great tones and functions, but seems to me more like a toy, I think a traditional pedalboard with different pedal combinations would be more fun and practical to daily use. Thanks Paul for doing this review.
It's a "neat" pedal, and it sounds fine. I personally don't like the design. It would be way too easy to hit the sliders with your foot. Also, in my experience, big sliders like that tend to get dirty. While your video says that the motor section doesn't have to work for the preset to be recalled, I still just see this as something that's going to eventually fail. (maybe I'm just old.) Finally, I love the expression pedal options, but my kemper already does that for me. Considering this one pedal is 2/3 the cost of a used Kemper, it seems like a bad investment to me.
It really depends on the situation. I'm using a G2 (pedalswitcher), pedalboard with pedalraisers and a one channel clean amp. I've got 5 overdrives on my board. With this pedal I can replace 3-4 overdrives and can control it with midi, no stepping on the button. Smaller pedalboard = less weight. Also gain staging without having different colloring is the way to go. But I'm not happy with the sound so far. Its a bit muddy, lacking clarity and dynamic, while he playing a Hook (3000 dollar) amp. Waiting for more demo's before buying..
Bloody hell. I thought you were overselling it and damn ... you really did. Big time. Man, just grab a guitar and make music, rather than wasting your time tinkering with toys.
Love chase bliss pedals - two questions: I know there is a lot of gain on tap, but seems like we are hearing a lot of noise / hiss. Related: any signal noise from the motors or digital control ?
Chase Bliss pricing strategy: Sell your car, get another mortgage on your house, sell your first-born child (assuming anyone else besides you thinks they're valuable) and offer yourself for six months of indentured servitude and you too can own a Chase Bliss pedal.

If a player has this, it can be their wah pedal, their volume pedal, their fuzz pedal, their boost, and more. Definitely seems like a way of the future. As an analog lover, I love that the future is analog!!!
Whatever it takes!
I used to drool at this this type of gear. For me the helix solved my needs and I'm very content with very little need to explore other gear for a while.
16:31 definitely adding that to my arsenal
I love how chase bliss will be a company that I believe will keep upping the game in creative pedals. Hats off to those guys!
Video Idea: Make a video where you use all of the "future" gears.
Several years ago I fantasized about this pedal. It does even more. Wonderful!
Although I can't afforc to spend that much on a pedal :)
gotta say, as a beginner, this pedal is sweeeeeeeeeeet!
Mr paul davids ur video production is getting better with every video
Paul Davids, artist of the FUTURE!
The wah wah pedal.. such an amazing pedal.. so versatile and magical.
This pedal (as many others) could benefit from a couple of metal bars above and below the sliders preventing you from stepping on them.
Metal bars are great places to have a drink and listen to good music.
The preset function with the moving sliders is simply awesome.
Honestly, Chase Bliss totally deserves this publicity. They make awesome pedals that create a kinds of different sounds. Great video! Do some more reviews on Chase Bliss! I recommend MOOD
4:00 omg when you showed the flying faders I almost fell off my chair.
It's certainly cool but at $750, it's in the price range of entire effect processors that do so much more. I don't see many of these selling.
For real, you can get a Pod Go, which has volume, wah, eq, amp, cab, and any 4 pedals from the entire line 6 library. And you would still have about 250 left over to buy expression pedals and extra footswitches, allowing you to get even more out of it.
Really depends if you’re willing to spend the extra money on 100% analog. Some people are, some people aren’t.
I’ll stick with my line 6 helix and its VST for my daw. Cool toy this though. I’ve never really been to understand the desire for 90 pedals.
$750? Never.
Yup, this is too expensive
This must be the most flexible and versitile analogue pedal ever. I love it! And I've never said that about an analogue pedal - ever.
The best pedal maker on the planet
Ok ok OK! You got me at 14:05 with that Sanata like HIGH note. Chase Bliss take my money! 💰
I spend too much time looking at gears and too little practicing 😭
Story of my life
Same!
haha It's ok, we all have seasons like that, it's part of the hole guitar deal. You gonna have the moment to do it so keep it easy bro
This is the reason I have GAS
terrific, just the right amount of drive to keep the tone still sweet but not crunchy
That pedal costs more than my guitar and my amp combined :(
micah ong sell them and BUY it haha
JP I would, but I wouldn’t have enough money left over for a power supply 😢
Certainly is very innovative though.
I think it might catch on..and if it does.. I expect the price to come down when others start to copy.
Lol, my Ltd ec-401v with DiMarzio paf and new Fender Pro Junior was $728. So, ya...for that money I’d get a used LP and some change! Like $150 change.
Ben Logan ya I went with a used mexi strat and boss katana 50
Really dig the production in your videos. Very slick. Thanks man.
they have done „tons if testing“ but never spilled a beer in it? oh my... 😂🤦🏼♂️
A piss test is in order right here. Preferably after guzzling down a few pints of beer!
Correction: he never poured a beer in it. And good for him. Beer is to drink, not to waste on a pedal, or pedalboard.
As Elvis Costello would say: "accidents will happen.."
Ha Ha!. Now THAT is funny!!!
@@PaulDavids correct. It is alcohol abuse!
wow, setting everything so quickly and precisely with the expression pedal is really incredible
Paul: "Yes. I mean, yes." (14:23)
His answer to the title question.
Can't wait for this company to explore this more, like a modulation pedal or reverb/delay pedal
It's chase bliss isn't? I'm pretty sure they've got a few reverbs and modulation pedals!
I agree.
@@noelhoekstra6852 there's one : Elektron' Heat mkII.
@@juliengiuliano628 WOW i didnt know
Just stopped by to say you Rock. Capital R. You got me back into playing after I lost the drive, and gave me reason to pick up music theory. Wish I would of had these videos back in 2004.
I initially thought "oh, it's just a different version of the Strymon Iridium", but this thing has some REALLY unique features! Thanks for sharing it!
It's insane, unbelievable! I think with this quality of the pedal the price is nothing, this is masterpiece.
Great demo! Sounds killer!
Chase Bliss has hit brilliant levels here. Got to start saving for one! Who needs a new amp when you can have a zillion possibilities.
So i had a little financial luck this month and i said to my girlfriend ill add it all to my savings account. You guys have any tips on explaining why its back to zero again?
Covid 19. Seems legit.
If any single purchase would require all my savings I wouldn't pull that trigger. I'd save up until I had at least double to tripple what it costs. If by that time I still want it that bad, then I go for it. But that's just me.
@@georgf9279 Like minded Pal. Almost, I wouldn't buy until my balance was quadruple it's cost .
“...I fell.”
Subliminal advertising on UA-cam. You gotta have it.
"Yes- I mean... yes". Fantastic pedal. I sometimes think there are far too many options in a pot of gear these days, but this is mind blowing.
6:40 "Now, the mid frequency range effect is very small"
*Pushes the sliders to get a wah-like sound*
Well, this pedal only wants an expression pedal input now. Gonna make a feature request.
WELL, GUESS WHAT!
Wow, mind-blowing pedal. Great rundown, thanks!
Paul: clicks Button
Me: well ok
Levers: move
Me: what kind of voodoo magic is this?
Very cool stuff indeed! I had to laugh out loud when I saw your expression when turning the Fuzz up full! Love it! Thanks for sharing.
I have one already, and I can honestly say that it's so versatile that the price tage makes a lot of sense when you actually spend time with it. It can replace easily 4 other pedals on my board, which even leaves budget for a midi controller on the side. ;-)
Nice to know you are loaded!
I'm really admiring you, hi quality videos, either video and content & and you're so kind. Thanks
You are a amazing person.. 🙂always inspired by you
Simp
Shoot. Hands down the best, most innovative, most diverse toned pedal I've seen.
it's certainly cool to have it and play with it, but $750 for a preamp... I mean come on! Nevertheless great video, you are an inspiration!
Ya, I would rather buy four to five used Walrus Audio pedals than drop $750 on this preamp.
Man that pedal is beyond cool, Paul. Great playing too!
$749 US? That’s a brand new amp! Or a very good used one!
facetono
It’s cool but 749$ is more than what my setup costs.
Yes but the sliders move on their own, LOL
Sure.... or 30kg of good coffee....or 40 times in a car wash.... who cares.... ? Buy it or not.... ladys 😁
Right. Gladly it is a brand new amp (part of). Just without some things you might want to add, so what‘s the point? I know people spending 70000 Euro for an Audi and how stupid is that. (To me...) Buy it or don‘t.
yea, but its amazing and compact preamp.
I personally think the price is more than fair. Super cool piece of gear.
Between this video and That Pedal Show's video, it was a no brainer.
more expensive then my guitar lmao
More expensive then my entire rig.
@@misterknightowlandco even with my amp dude 😂😂
all the gear starting to become too expensive and overrated.
Hey man, I noticed you have a small stutter as well. It's barely noticeable but from one stammerer to another can I just say thanks for not editing it out and wearing it as it is. It's inspirational.
2:20 The sound of every guitar player crying
Love the WOOOO.. aaaarrrrgggggh.. at the scratchy volume pot at 2:20. Deoxit time!
Again a great video.
I think I can say in the name of everyone here that you are one of the only one who keep guitar alive.
Great source of inspiration, would love to become as good as you and develop my channel too !
I was recently telling my brother how cool it would be if you could get a pedal with a presets system and now it’s here!
Great tones and functions, but seems to me more like a toy, I think a traditional pedalboard with different pedal combinations would be more fun and practical to daily use. Thanks Paul for doing this review.
I can listen to you play for hours! Cool pedal too!
10:15 "jerking the mids" with foot: PRICELESS
great review man
Bloody hell. I thought you were overselling it but damn it, you're not.

very worth to check these gear videos and specially your look on the things, it's always quite refreshing and one can learn lot of things too...
Love chase bliss pedals - two questions: I know there is a lot of gain on tap, but seems like we are hearing a lot of noise / hiss. Related: any signal noise from the motors or digital control ?
If they made one of these that reproduced a thick, bright Orange-style gain, I would buy it instantly.
Chase Bliss pricing strategy: Sell your car, get another mortgage on your house, sell your first-born child (assuming anyone else besides you thinks they're valuable) and offer yourself for six months of indentured servitude and you too can own a Chase Bliss pedal.
I have the mood and it's so much fun! It really does sound just like the demos. Get a job installing solar so you can buy all the gear you want bro!
Or, stop smoking cigarettes & pack lunches.
Dear Mr. Paul, thank you for your awesome videos sir!
I can barely use my Ditto loop controls, imagine trying to learn all this stuff
It's just a pre-amp with EQ.. whats so complicated?
move the fader until it sounds good.
