  • We were reminded of our time in Malta as we explored Bornholm Denmark. The fortifications found on the island plus the island’s location on the gateway to and from the many countries of the Baltic Sea makes it a sought-after piece of land.
The episode begins with us departing Germany’s Rügen peninsula for the 75 mile sail to the harbor of Hasel on Bornholm’s western coast. We use this harbor for a home base as we explore by food and bus. We are dazzled with the numerous cute towns and beautiful landscapes and architecture.
Of particular interest are Hammershus Slot (Hammershus Castle) and the four round churches from the 12th and 13th centuries. We also visit a granite quarry as we hike the north shore. We are impressed with the number of sailboats that squeeze into the many tiny stone-wall harbors with narrow entrances.
Next episode, we sail to Sweden and begin enjoying some or their thousands of islands in their many archipelagos.
    Enjoy!
