Probably not. Schizophrenia usually becomes symptomatic by the end of your 20s. Disordered and paranoid thoughts aren't a result of caring too much. They are unresponsive and unreasonable, by definition.
Retired Psychiatrist. From what I saw, I suspect he's an old Bipolar who's hypomanic. Not yet full fledge mania, but close. Very tangential, jumping one nonsensical statement to another. The classic fixation on hygiene, purging, fearful of sleep, extreme paranoia regarding all the neighbors, but then is going to buy up the entire neighborhood. Unable to adapt to any changes in his environment. He has assigned himself the role patrol person staying armed and guarding the neighborhood. I want to praise the officers. This was probably one of the best, most compassionate interactions I've witnessed. Brian no doubt has a lifelong chronic mental illness. Most likely Bipolar, or Schizoaffective disorder. (Bipolar and Schizophrenia combined. The most severe of all mental illnesses). I suspect it has reached a point where Brian needs to live in a permanent Chronic Mental Illness facility where his basic needs can be provided, shelter, clothing, food and access to personal hygiene as well as medical and mental health treatment. You're not going to cure Brian, but his life and everyone else's can be made a lot more comfortable and safe. Again: big kudos to the police officers. They were all excellent. This video should be used as a training film. The rest of the video indicates a decent into dementia. He needs to be in a controlled facility.
I was thinking old man BP too, and I'm NOT a psychiatrist :D, but have long term foster kids that have been DX'd. I've always wondered what they may look like if uncontrolled....
Kudos?? The officers locked up an elderly man who is clearly mentally unwell, not aware of what he is doing one second to the next, and a WAR VETERAN!! Not to mention, the Tyrants illegally searched his home, by not asking for consent, or obtaining a warrant. And the old man is the one who called them for help in the first place. Brian needed a hospital, not JAIL!

“I’m getting cold too Brian. If you get in the car, I can too. I don’t have a nice fuzzy hat like yours.” That empathy encouraged him to get into the car without struggle. When I die, I’ve asked my kids to request donations for Wounded Warriors or any Vets assistance. The contrast is a disgrace between how politicians live and how impacted veterans live both active and retired.
Agreed. Liver disease comes with excesses and deficits in blood chemistry that causes abnormal brain function. Add in other substances and this is a perfect storm.
As a person who works with black homeless vets, I just wished this compassion was for all people equally. Unfortunately not only do some people use the “mental illness card” for some groups as an excuse assuming that they just can’t be innately evil like everyone else because they’re naturally pure or some sh/t. But mental challenges don’t even come into mind for other groups who are genuinely suffering & deserve some empathy. Case & point in my line of work I see so many Karen’s fake hyperventilate & get taken to our nicest mental facilities yet the veterans I work with are given no patience and jail time for offenses that don’t even effect other people.
Brian stating “I just got up and I’m losing my mind” is heartbreaking. As a paramedic to see an alerted reality isn’t abnormal. When someone realizes the reality is altered is when the fear sets in for them.

@@Busterdrag You can get an emergency 72 hour hold, but longer term involuntary hospitalizations typically requires a significant precipitating event before anyone will sign off on it, (which is kind of true even for a 72 hour hold, but they're a lot more common.) Our existing "mental institutions" are fairly limited in scope. Depending on where in the country you are there may be options for longer term housing for people with severe mental illness; where I work many of my clients would be either homeless or in jail, and are typically mandated into state care through the courts after getting in trouble with the law. Where I work we have "community housing" so it's basically just a couple of small apartment complexes with 24hr on-site staffing, but we can't forcibly require our clients to stay on site. Where I live we put a lot of our taxes into paying for these kinds of services, compared to most of the country, and even here there are only a couple of places that offer mid-to-long term "lock down" housing, like an institution, but even at dedicated mental hospitals, the end goal is usually to transition people into community housing, as it's considered more humane. Other places might not even have community housing at all, so again, you have people who are either homeless, in jail, or people who are barely staying afloat living on their own like our friend Brian here, and as a result are often terrorizing neighbors and using up police resources, instead of having dedicated social workers to be a buffer for some of the escalations in their behavior.
Armed Neighbours from Hell... misleading title. Should be "Armed Neighbours IN Hell" - because that's obviously where that poor guy's mind has ended up.

Not early onset, hes well on his way, depends on if you watch the guy for a few days, if its Daily or if it comes like once every few weeks thats early but if its every day he should be in Long Term Care.
It's from all those heavily processed foods. The American public grew up on breakfast cereals, pop tarts, and frozen heat and eat meals. Then, to add to the misery, they charcoal grill their meats. If that ain't bad enough, everyone gets a handgun.
Man, poor guy is literally out of his mind. he needs to be in a facility that has the capability to take care of him and help him if possible. But he shouldn't have guns.

Getting old is scary enough, having one’s brain betray is the scariest scenario. Sadly, the few underfunded VA hospitals are overwhelmed and no longer able to keep the promises made to those who defended the country. This is one of the results.
Thankfully, the VA is able to offer community care referrals now. They can refer patients to a provider outside the VA (private practice, etc), often to a provider of the Veteran’s own choosing. The VA is still as dangerous as ever, but vets have more options now.

Okay, I now have another reason for my respect for cops. I truly admire these guys for their patience and tolerance in listening to people like these ramble on endlessly.
They can be as compassionate as they want, but it means nothing unless they're consistent. The young lady in the jail made the mentally impaired guy, the one with the hat, sign that he understood his rights when he repeatedly said he didn't understand. He obviously can't consent.

@@Busterdragunfortunately we got rid of all of our mental asylums, because of all the horror stories, so now the horror is all out in the open

This is so sad. This country needs to help its elders and veterans. As well as the mentally ill. We need more health facilities and not prisons.
Definitely. I'm a retired veteran myself and just based on his vernacular I can tell he's prior military. I caught this video playing halfway so im not sure if he mentioned he was military in the beginning
its benzo abuse, im sure, nothing "ill" about him.
Best solution IMO would be to reopen the mental hospitals but pay people enough to make sure they don't abuse the patients. Unfortunately none of our current leaders will ever approve that.
Yeah well when you have the mentality I’ll president that we have in office that wont happen
@@jdsk8er98 the GOP closed the mental hospitals, has their policy changed?
I’m so relieved to see compassion in these comments for beautiful Brian (the first man). I hope he gets love and care. Jail makes ZERO sense in his situation. 😢
My heart broke for Brian when he said 'It's Veterrans Day and no one gives a shit about me'. He clearly needs mental health help not thrown behind bars. He fought for peoplles freedom, he doesn't deserve to lose his.
I mean to be fair, he treats everyone like garbage so of course no one wants to deal with him
This truly sad
People also don’t deserve to get a gun pointed at them and have a chance to have their life ended for no reason
once he's arrested and goes before a judge, he'll get help. Court-ordered, thats the way it works.
@shazzymapatazzie3117 You are correct but what is the answer? Nothing that "Government" provides (via taxpayer dollars) will help him. My heart also hurts for him.
"I don't have kids. My daughter is married. He needs to be a man. And she chose a different dad so, I didn't get married."
This guy is so far gone
I cannot comprehend how any judge or prosecutor could possibly consider him to be competent to stand trial.
he could be saying something like his daughter "disowned" him as a father, and he didn't get to go to his daughters wedding due to that. she probably has closer relationship with her stepfather, assuming she has one with the "she chose a different dad" comment. he dislikes his daughters husband, as he said he needs to "be a man". probably just nonsense, but i mean there could be something he's actually talking about. just disordered thoughts. he's clearly mentally ill and probably can't express his thoughts properly.
Ikr. I rewound that part a couple times to try to understand him.
He’s lonely and possibly losing his mind, but I think what he meant is he doesn’t have grandkids or young kids anymore. It sounds like his daughter’s mother chose a different husband. I’ve worked extensively with those suffering from dementia. They often speak in split sentences with parts of reality mixed in with their distortions. I think that could be at play with Brian on top of delirium and the weed/hemp mix.
He mentioned detoxing his body a few times. It kinda looks like alcoholic DTs. When they asked if he'd ever been arrested, his answer 'oh yeah' plus the 6 dui..it could be why he lost his wife and family. Alcoholism is so sad and horrible

There is no cure for dementia or the like. He needs 24/7 care. 45 days in jail?? This is what’s wrong with our system! He’s not a criminal, he’s dying. My husband died of dementia. I know what he’s going through. May God bless him. He knows not what he’s doing. 🕊️🙏🏼🕊️
Crazy how the only thing the law knows how to do is threaten jail time, and when that fails it doesn’t know what else to do. I really hope in the future there is better support for people going through this. I can feel his struggle.
He definitely belongs in jail.
Exactly my thoughts. Jail is a temporary solution. This man has to battle his demons without help. Our country is embarrassing.

I thought this was 2 separate men. His decline is devastating and the alcohol probably doesn’t help either.😢

He’s alone, and the reason he keeps repeating his future goals (I’m gonna buy this neighborhood for my kids, I’m gonna teach my son to shoot) is because people who feel hopeless get an increase of serotonin when they tell other people their goals.
