Your daughter was right... Gumbo made me smile through the stress of studying for my first statics exam! Thank you sir this video was very helpful and you are extremely easy to listen to and follow along with. Extremely admirable teaching demeanor! :)
Came across your channel recently. You do put out concise explanations to topics which is useful to many students like me. Keep up the the work mate and thank you for your dedication and time Sir.
Professor French, I loved your classes when I took them back at Purdue and loved the trebuchet project (even if the projectile didn't go far as we wanted). Keep up the awesome work #MET
You are most welcome. I'm pleased that the video is help. It great to know I have a viewer in Thailand. My family lived in Thailand for two years when I was a child.
Do you mean Fa and Fb? The beam is basically acting as a lever. Point B is akin to the fulcrum (pivot) and Fa is akin the weight the lever is being used to lift. Since the beam is static, all forces and moments have to sum to zero.
Typically, you use knowledge of the type of constraint used. The pin at the left end can "pull" or "push" on the diving board (it can also constrain the board moving horizontally), but the roller towards the middle can only "push" back against the diving board. You should ask yourself if you are, for example, the pin, what types of forces will the board be applying to you? Other times, however, you can also assume directions of forces. The math will tell you whether you assumed the correct direction.
can somebody explain how he went from 2m x Fb - 5m x Fp = 0 to Fb = 5 over 2 x 931.96 newtons. the 5 divided by 2 caught me off guard. Can you please explain this or point me in the right direction, thank you.
Professor, it is not too hard to solve a problem with a working diagram provided. Can you just do videos on real life examples on a working diagram how those support types exist? For examples: how does an applied moment exist in a beam or structure? Say, I have a multistory reinforced concrete building with concrete roof slab. Are the exterior and interior supports for the roof beams pinned or fixed when the columns support discontinued on top? Likewise, are the exterior and interior supports for the floor beams pinned or fixed when the columns support continued on top and bottom?

I'll let Gumbo know 😺 Thanks very much for the encouragement. I'm glad the videos are helpful - M
This video was great. Gumbo definitely is the icing on the cake.
This “Barney style” step by step teaching is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Barney was a big hit in our house when the kids were little :-)
All I can say is thank you so much, you have no idea what you did to my conceptual physics knowledge

I'm glad to hear that you've found the channel. It's a good feeling to know that I'm of help to people outside my own classroom :-)
the best professor, love your way of teaching from Pakistan

You were so lucky
OMG! your video is awesome! Idiots guide to statics and I needed this! Thank you!
Good morning Professor, thank you very kindly!
🙏🏽
"this is gumbo" hehehehe so cute!
Easy listen , very good class and teaching.
Thank you so much from Thailand ❤️

You're so likeable and Gumbo is to die for cute! Thanks for your videos!
I came for statics help but I Subscribed for Gumbo.
I came to the comment section to write the same exact thing word by word 😂
@@gaboramagboul I was waiting for the gumbo part eagerly. LOL
Oh the gumbo is so cute 🥰
Good explaination. 👍👍. Tq prof . Btw hi gumbo. Hahaha
The best vedios ever,
Thanks a lot
Is the diving board massless? Didn't hear that mentioned in the setup.
Can someone explain why those two forces in the y-axis oppose each other

Pretty cool 😎.
Say hello to gumbo 😁
how do u know if FA is negative ,FB is positive and so on

He missed the x-component on Point A.
That is already equal to zero but he should've mentioned it.
I forgot to include the force at B, Thank you for this video!
You're most welcome. I'm glad the video helped :-)
You are amazing!!
Wow, thanks :-)

Thank you sir....
Love from Pakistan
Thank you Sir. 🙏
Most welcome
Excellent, thank you.
excellent
My main issue is static specially in the of freebody diagram.

This is a good idea, thanks :-)
