    Just flunked a statics test, thanks for having made this video, it's helping me figure out where I went wrong. Cheers :)

    Your steps to solve the problems are very simple and clear. You don’t assume that people know already something. It is very important in teaching because student like me always need some refresher. Thanks for your help

    where did you get 35 from?

    • @ZZ-tp4ny
      @ZZ-tp4ny 2 місяці тому

      The 35 comes from solving for the sum of moments at A to get By.
      The 3 forces producing a moment at A are:
      1. The 25 (I’ll assume N for convenience) downward force on the beam
      2. The 50 N downward force on the beam
      3. And lastly, By
      Taking the moment of each of those (M=Fd) we get:
      1. -25N • 1m (since it is 1 meter away from A horizontally)
      2. -50N • 3m
      3. +By • 5m
      Adding them up:
      0 = - (25N•1m) - (50N•3m) + (By•5m)
      And solving algebraically for By gets 35.
