I Put Gold in My Dagger (Serenity Pt.8)

  • I'm adding 24k gold round wire to my awesome dagger called Serenity. There are three simple steps involved. First, I cut grooves for the gold wire. Second, I dovetail the grooves to secure the wire. And finally, I gently press the 24k gold wire into the grooves. However, there's a challenge. If I make any mistakes cutting the grooves too shallow, it could ruin the entire gold inlay, and I'll have to start over, wasting a lot of money in gold.

One on hand, there is the actual physical strength of swinging an hammer precisely on an anvil. And on the other hand there is this; not many people have the physical stamina and dedication to quality to hand chisel each of those dovetails. Excellent work as always my friend!

For some of us the "patience and time" aspect are what makes something difficult. I am a bit of a handyman; I take care of most things around the house myself including everything from flooring, electrical, plumbing, drywall, etc... That said, I am by no means a craftsman. Being a craftsman takes a level of patience and dedication that I have never been able to achieve. You sir, are not just a craftsman but a master and I admire you greatly.

Kyle I now have an idea and wonder how well you could make those lil lines show up. If u cut the channel shallow and the cut simple geometric or floral designs in the base of the channel then enlay gold over the top sand down n gun blue you could have the delicate designs in black in the middle of the gold

To the Batmobile! Why don't you make a little plane with one of those chisels to run through after the cutting to ensure even depth? Or if you don't want the bottom smooth one at your minimum depth setting after you make the cross grooves. That way you could quickly ensure that you are clear everywhere, and wouldn't need to sweat missing a high point. It would also be faster, once you made the plane.
'Smashing' is a highly technical term. You might want to back it down a little. You don't want to put people off. :-)
It finished up beautifully. Interesting look, leaving the rough surfacing.
