I’m assuming only the 2022 and onwards Tesla model Y have centre airbags.

Maintenance economy is poor? How does that make sense?

I hate how bad new cars are at low speed crashes. They might protect you, but not your wallet.

Don't get me wrong. Same here. But that's just a thing I hate at modern cars

I so understand what you're saying! If I had to choose between:
a.) car saves me in a severe accident but is expensive to repair
b.) car is cheap to repair but won't protect me in case of a severe accident
I'd always opt for answer a.), secretly wishing for option c.) as in
c.) car saves me AND is reasonably easy to fix in a minor fender bender

@@cassinihuygens but the thing is EVERY modern car could protect you well in low speed crashes, but manufacturers (not just Tesla, most of them) just couldnt care about the repair cost while designing the vehicles...

I would hope anyone driving one of these would have comprehensive insurance.
