Beautiful,quilt. I have the 1st generation bias tape maker and this tool,is awesome and actually saves money when making your own binding. It is also very easy to use. I purchased mine from The now closed Hancock Fabrics and purchased all the additional bias tips for well unde 35.00 back then.
Your fabric should be twice the width of your bias tip. Roll around the roller, over the spindle and pull through the bias tip as you would any other width. You may need to use a pin to start the fabric through the tip end. Afterwards, pull your fabric to meet with both rollers, heat it up and you’re ready to go.. I hope this helps answer your question.

I also have 1st generation. I do not have to hold down the heat cover It locks into place secure. Has that changed?

NOTE - I made enough Binding for two (2) Nutcracker quilts - for my quilt and for a friends quilt .
