I was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and from the time I was old enough to remember, I was taught to treat everyone with respect. I judge a person on the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
I am 66 years young. I was raised to be color blind when it came to people. My father always said to judge a person by their actions, not how they look. He also taught us that you always look a person in the eye and to always have a firm hand shake even though I was a girl/woman. Show everyone respect and honesty even if they don’t do the same to you. He also taught us to get away from people who continually shows disrespect and dishonesty to others as they will eventually do the same to you and people will eventually associate you with this person’s actions.
Same here and it was my Mother and aunties and uncles being of African American decent that was so important in our upbringing as kids to adults and i have passed this on to my two children and grandchildren
I am a Caucasian/American Indian (Muskogee Creek) and i have always had friends of color. God made us different colors for a reason. Being open to all is the way to live your life. Two beautiful families coming together and learning from one another is great.
I loved this video. Hubby and I moved to NE Tennessee 3 years ago. Well, hubby had to stay in Florida for the first year. We live in the tiniest town, 3/4 acre. Our neighbors have become our family. I have a huge garden and chickens. So we share the bounty and my neighbors share their knowledge of fixing stuff. We don’t have Uber or taxis or buses but if we need a ride we can just call a neighbor and we’re good to go. A couple of us are fighting cancer right now so we keep in touch and support one another. Thank God for the community here.
❤❤❤❤love and blessings to you and your family. Prayers that you and others will be healed from your cancer. My husband is fighting cancer too. John and Candy in North Augusta, SC
I love that, "live and let live". For me, it's about good, kind, loving, honest person vs bad, mean, hateful, dishonest person. That's it - full stop. Great video. Great community!
Much love to you all for being such shinning examples of trust love and commitment to each other and community blessings to each and everyone of you it makes me smile and realize how many beautiful and wonderful souls there are in our lives ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰
You'll need to train her to the milk machine. Feed her treats while she's near it so she gets used to the sound. Then gradually get her closer and closer to where the sound it makes doesn't matter. That's my suggestion. Also it sounds like that family has done such a wonderful thing in two years. Sounds like God really blessed them when they helped that other family out. Only the enemy of souls would try to tarnish such a wonderful thing.
I love that you gave them space to share their story here. People’s words can be so incredibly damaging, but friends who stand for truth and for the character of those who are slandered are golden. May the Lord continue to bless them in their important work. ♥️
Maggie left a great legacy behind. As someone who has endured my fair share of racism I want to say just keep being who you are. Those who are open to getting to know YOU will eventually open their hearts and their eyes and see You. Great video. ❤
I am white and my wife is from Taiwan, after leaving the Army in 2016 we ended up in Cumberland County Tennessee and started a homestead. We have had nothing but positive feedback from the community and I am so glad to see more diversity in these farming UA-cam videos. All we have is each other so please don't be afraid to ask for help when needed.
Sending you love 💕 from beautiful Kampala city, Uganda, Africa. I pray one day i own a 🐄, 🐔, turkey 🦃🦃 and do as you do on your lovely farm 🥚🥚🥚 i want to stop buying eggs and start rearing chickens.
Yes , what a great video . What a powerful story of Maggie and the lessons she left behind . The Ing family are truly blessed to have known Maggie and her husband . ... And now we have been introduce to this way of life even more . Thank you Mike and Lacey for introducing us to the Ing "s family and what community really means .,.. We do wave at everybody here in the South 😊
Hey Farmer Mike I am so blessed and grateful to see the stories you and Miss Lacey share each week. I am also so grateful that you shared the wonderful Sprinkle with Soil family and look forward to thier adventures as well. Thanks so much hugs from Canada 🥰🥰
As a Southerner and wife of an Asian man ; I don’t think it’s a racism problem. I’m actually really weary of the racism complaint- seems to me the issue is a lack of parenting, lack of education, and lack of compassion for your fellow man. The people that have “racial issues”have issues with everyone and also themselves. The children are the answer. Teach them love and compassion; give them a purpose and a sense of belonging. Teach them to love their country and respect those that fought for it. The kids are our hope for peace. Darla
Darla, you are absolutely right; racism has nothing to do with the skin color. It has everything to do with the way a person is raised, and whether they have been taught to love the person, not the skin. I get so sick of hearing racism!
What an amazing video, Mike and Lacie, thank you for sharing all of our families’ stories and honoring Maggie in this beautiful way. She was truly an angel here on Earth. Aunt May is doing so well, and so are you guys! ❤ Shalom, friends!
Not only does is teach a child to be self sufficient when they have chores, it makes them confident. It also makes them know and feel needed in the family. It makes them take on challenges head on.
Beautiful video. Maggie was my closest friend for nearly 20 years. We were joined at the hip everyone used to say. Our homesteading endeavors were done together in that all-important community. She was all Sophie said and more. John sent me this video today because today is 4 months since Maggie passed and I was missing her.
Ms. Maggie is walking with the angles. I think the thing that scares me about death, is being forgotten. By building relationships, we live forever. God bless this beautiful family.
I've lived in the south for 73 years and I don't know anyone that is racist. Sadly some of the older ignorant people have been a little racist but most of them are all gone to their rewards. I'm old but I see people as God's creations and there's worth in every soul. Thank God for Maggie, she must have been a wonderful lady.
I"m in the south, too, and I do know of racist people here, including blacks against whites. But I have also known of racists in different parts of the world. I'm sure it's everywhere to some extent.
Thank you for sharing your visit with the Ing Family and Maggie and John’s family and also their stories and your beautiful connections with each other. Race has no boundaries where there is love of people. I grew up and Key West and so many nationalities visited there so growing up there I never learned prejudices. Thanks so much, from Grandma
I love the slogan on your shirt Mike too bad more people didn't live by that. I have lived my life trying to give and help others regardless if it was returned or not. God Bless from your Canadian Friend.
Thanks Mike & Lacie for introducing ‘Sprinkle with Soil” ..popping over shortly to check their channel out. It’s obvious that they are an amazing family! I can’t wait to see what all they have going on! You have introduced so many amazing families over the years! Mike, you’re the best! Blessings and much love to you guys
❤❤thank you Mike and thank you Tim and Sophia for sharing such a wonderful and moving story of your experience. What a blessing to have had Maggie as your mentor. She lives on in all that you do and teach others. These are the true stories that help shape and make families what they are. And it's not just our family but every family that links us together as homesteaders. Just like the Holy Spirit in us makes us all family in Christ Jesus. There will be no strangers in heaven. ❤❤❤ Much love to you and your family. John and Candy in North Augusta, SC
I enjoy your videos so much. Such a BLESSING! I truly wish I had such a community. We moved to our current location a few years ago. Only to find the neighbors are not so minded as we are. But I will not give up. WE will find our community. And hope I can bring as much as I know the rest of the community will. Much love from this KY Grandma
I am sorry you experience racism. We have lovely colorful springs beautiful falls and rainbows. The lovely hues cultures food that different people bring is a blessing. Wonderful to meet you.
❤❤❤❤❤ U guys n everyone..... ❤❤❤❤, too, that little cutie guy on ur back always...tries to alwayspop his head from ur back, camera caught him pipping out grom his carrier all his smiles ❤❤❤❤❤ hugs, too ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing this, it's great hear about the positivity of the community in The South. As a Brit I've not had a good impression of the south of the US when it comes to race. Many years ago a good friend of mine was posted to the south (Air Force) and had a horrendous time. She was American Asian and her husband was African American. We met on a base in the UK when I served and at the time she was astonished as the lack of prejudice she experienced at the time. Unfortunately in recent years both our countries have had some crazy right wing politics going on. It's so reassuring to know that real people are out there making it work, thank you (And I have her book on my amazon wish list it will be purchased soon!)
❤❤ Beautiful story y’all. Mike, my experience has been like yours as someone who was born & raised in the South. I’ve been very fortunate to not have personally experienced racism nor has my family. Not too naive to know it’s not a thing though; we have amazing neighbors in an amazing small town here in Florida
What beautiful people you are! The Lord bless you and your families. Your channel came up on my feed for the first time. I grew up on a farm, I only have chickens right now myself, but being more food sufficient is very wise, especially in these times we are living.💚
Oh my Mike and Lacie! Thanks for introducing this wonderful family from Cali to us! I'm so happy they've relocated to our neck of the woods. Sprinkled with Soil!
I'm in eastern northern california in a rather rural area. We have a great community of homesteaders. Yes, the gov. sucks. Can I leave hear? Nope! But I have found my people and my community and we stick together and support each other!
Moved to Tennessee a couple years ago and have found everything you’ve said to be true. They don’t have a problem calling out someone’s bs. It’s great!
I'm glad you bought a milk machine! I milked by hand; first goats, then cows. I have severe arthritis in my thumbs, one needed surgery. I no longer have much strength there which compromises many chores and opening things like jars. So now you will not be in danger of the same problem!
...and those that rise to the top are closest to the Lord! I never met Maggie, but l love her anyway. I taught 8th graders for 31 years in a very rural area and heard many similar stories through the years...😢...
Born and raised in New Zealand. We are a multicultural country - most families here have family members of different races and we are proud of our maori culture - it gets adopted by all races here.
My favorite uncle was black and as a child I had no idea, it never even occurred to me that he had a different skin color than mine. I just loved him. We are all family and God created us all to be wonderfully beautiful!
I mean why do some people think only black people suffer from racism? What’s with assuming the racism comes from someone who is white?! If your favorite uncle was white would you say my favorite uncle was white or just my favorite uncle is Jerry?!
I'm not judging you Sophie! I milk sheep every morning just for the cream as well. The yogurt and cheese is nice to but the raw cream is where it's at. Haha. I read that women crave fat more because we have to balance our horomones and it helps our bodies out in so many ways. I also ferment my yogurt long. The health benefits are numerous as I'm sure you know. What a beautiful story!
Another great family Mike appreciate you guys putting this together. Listen to you all. I wish I had started earlier I would know a whole lot more and so what my children and my children’s children to 1000 generation.
I was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and from the time I was old enough to remember, I was taught to treat everyone with respect.

Same age. Same raising 😁
Same here , conversations I never forgot
My Dad taught us the same way. I have a hard time trusting a man with a limp handshake or smoother hands than mine.
Same here and it was my Mother and aunties and uncles being of African American decent that was so important in our upbringing as kids to adults and i have passed this on to my two children and grandchildren
One of the best videos ever. I love the story of Maggie.
You’re a good man Mike. Thank you for bringing us this story. Screw the racist. I stand with you and this family!
What an inspiration! Excellent video, bro!
I really enjoyed the story about the awesome Maggie. What a refreshing story. May Maggie’s memory be a blessing. 🕊️

Agree! The word Racism is constantly used especially in the last couple of years. This administration and the media are dividing everyone.
