I agree on the maturity thing. I love my autowinders to be sure, but my " The Citizen " is on my wrist most of the time nowadays. Beautiful understated watch, and I haven't had to change a battery😊, or pull the crown to correct the time, except for dad gum daylight savings. Most people never pay it any mind. I rather enjoy that, I know what it is, so there is my immaturity showing after all.
I have no issues with quartz. I love the seiko tuna and grand seiko. In fact I think quartz is more alive with a soul than auto. You have a crystal vibrating from electric battery giving accurate time. It's alive!
I love high quality Quartz watches from GS, The Citizen, Seiko Astron and Casio Radio controlled Solar watches. I have about 16 watches and only 4 of them are automatic. Furthermore, good watches are more than just their movements. Good watches are the totality of the quality of workmanship of their individual parts such as cases, hands, dials, indices, straps and clasps.
I have a quartz Marathon SSNAV watch that I wear once or twice a week. It's highly accurate like you say in the video and the look and quality is awesome.
i got a tag f1 quartz as a daily, seamaster 300 heritage and 114060 for the weekends or nice times. love how worryfree the tag is. also funny you mention the bond seamaster, that comes in quartz too, really want that.
As far as I'm concerned, my gold standard quartz are the Citizen Chronomaster ("The Citizen") eco-drive watches with the perpetual calendars. They are thermally compensated high-accuracy quartz movements (+/-5s per year) powered by Citizen eco-drive with a perpetual calendar. I just purchased my second one. A watch doesn't get any more "set and forget" than this. I set my other watches to them.
Just another one to throw in the hat, TAG has the aquaracer solar quartz movement. I can be an auto movement snob from time to time (no pun intended), and I wouldn't mind owning the TAG quartz, or even the older Omega Seamaster Quartz movement.
I am not too snobby to wear quartz, but I am a snob when it comes to quartz. Grand Seiko simultaneously made me appreciate quartz and a quartz snob at the same time. Most of my wrist time this year went to my 9F Grand Seiko or my MoonSwatch and only wore mechanical during summer with my dive watches. When the Tag Solargraph came out, I was excited, it looked so cool on the website and the publicity. Then I saw in person and was completely unimpressed: “This is over three grand? I could get a 9F Grand Seiko with way better finishing for less? I guess it’s time to look for solar divers from Seiko and Citizen now.”
There has been a flooding of vk63 equipped watches that in all honesty offer nothing but a “three dial register” chronograph and many people don’t know that there is no hour totalizer but instead a 24 hour subdial. The Vk67 offers true chronograph features
Yeah I've basically come full circle and started getting back into some quartz in my own watch collecting recently. There's room for both mechanical and quartz movements. I like them both just fine. In many cases, there are certain models you just can't get other than in a quartz configuration and they're damn cool too. I feel I've been taking the watch collecting too seriously. I still do, but, have loosened up to not miss out and have more affordable fun in quartz timepieces.
There will always be something special about Tag, Omega and Longines quartz divers. You can pick any out of the bunch and and just straight up wear the living daylights out of it for 20-30 years and they won't skip a beat.
I learned that the thing that mattered to me the most about watches is the design. So even if it's a cheap quartz movement, the design is what matters ultimately the most. And it's probably better if it's a cheap movement, that way repairs or battery replacements can be done easily. My favorite highly technical quartz movements are usually solar GPS from Casio, seiko, or citizen.
Nothing wrong with quartz. As for the price, let's be honest in the premium brands the price is probably >75% brand image anyway. I think there is a lack of quartz watches on the market WITHOUT a second hand, which I think is a shame. Accuracy of quartz without the tick-tock seconds, perfect.
The ultimate sports watch is the Casio G-Shock B5000B. It's the latest and greatest of the original 5000C from 1983. The 1983 had the 3/10 rule, 10 meter drop test, 10 Bar, 10yrs battery. Today the B5000B is so far advance there is no other sports watch that is scratch resistant and can take a hit from a sledge hammer. I owned 4 Rolex and Omega and others and my vote goes to the B5000B. Prove me wrong.
Just dropped a whopping $39.99 on a Timex Easy Read with the Indiglo so I can tell time at night, love it. Came on a nice leather strap too. And my TImex Expedition is my go to for activities like golf, shooting and cycling where I don't want to shock the crap out of my Sub
Well said 👍. I think a lot of the quartz hate is due to the fact that the accuracy of even inexpensive quartz watches make even a mechanical chronometer look pretty poor. An enthusiast should have both, I wear quartz riding my bike ever since the vibration ruined a mechanical movement.
My Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay had a fantastic quartz movement! It would save power then 'wake up' to the right time (to the second!). I hear the GS quartz movements are very good.
I’ve had a solar powered quartz Seiko Astron GPS since 2014. Accuracy? +-0 seconds. No need to adjust the date for short months. No battery replacement necessary. No mobile network necessary. Travelling? Press a couple of buttons for the local time. Does DST too. Mine is black PVD with orange highlights-pretty stealth/cool! Always surprised how little attention the Astron gets 🤷🏻♂️
Beside G-Shocks I do own a couple of quartz watch, a Breitling Aerospace, which is so badass, and of course a two tone champaign dial Datejust Oysterquartz, which I bought years ago for less than 3000$, and people are so interested in when I am wearing it at watch events. To me you must own one quartz in your collection for days you dont have time to set your watch when on the rush
I’ve never seen a quartz watch that hit ALL the markers, I’ve seen a couple guys claim theirs did BUT It doesn’t! I have several quartz watches and love them, I wouldn’t own them if not. Ya can’t beat a Seiko solar quartz!! But they dont hit ALL the marks!! Even the Rolex shown didn’t hit all the marks
If you have a 3rd camera, please use it. Place it in a spot that allows it to film both of you together. It feels like you guys are talking to one another from two separate locations. I know you're not, but it feels like it. Just trying to help.
I have a few pretty nice mechanical watches and a bunch mechanical Seikos, Citizens, etc.... Not a big time collector but I like what I have. However, the tan line on my left wrist is very obviously shaped like a G-SHOCK square.
I don't have a problem with "high end" quartz if it truly is high-end. i.e. Grand Seiko. But too many watches, even pretty expensive watches, don't have high-end quartz movements. It's frequently a image over substance equation. Also, if you're collecting watches, how many quartz or battery watches are you going to have? 1, 2, 3? You're not going to have a watch box full! Watch any State of the Collection video and there's typically 1 or 2 watches that don't get worn because the battery is dead. Or maybe the irreplaceable quartz movement is dead! Many of the higher end quartz movements from the late 70s or 80s aren't made anymore. 😢 At one time, I had built up to 5 Citizen Eco-drive watches. When it occurred to me, it would be silly to have any more than that. A mechanical movement, on the other hand; it doesn't matter how many you have, really. I pulled a 70s-era Tissot chronograph out of the drawer the other day. It's never been serviced! Gave it a couple winds on the stem, and it fired up fine! Mechanical watches are evergreen 🌲
I own two quartz watches. That I acquired prior to becoming a watch enthusiast. If one were not a gift from my wife, I would toss both of them now. They are hidden and never worn. I find that there is little nostalgia and craftsmanship in quartz to appreciate. It just doesn't do it for me.
Craftsmanship in watches usually costs tens of thousands of dollars or hundreds of thousands of dollars per watch. Maybe you can get a Habring or Kudoke or a Grand Seiko or an anOrdain for under 10k, but that's about it.
Appreciating Quartz is a true sign of a mature watch fan
Completely agree

British Special Forces went from Rolex divers to CWC quartz no hesitation.
Just has to hit the markers....

Always need a good grab and go quartz. I just picked up a GMWB5000D-3 and can't wait to get it on the wrist

It was a Rolex OP that went to summit of Everest. The Explorer was a celebration of that (OP) success.
The Rolex never made it to the summit on that climb. Sir Edmund Hillary wore a Smiths A409. Tensing left the Rolex back at camp.

Seiko “Tuna” SBBN049. Such a fun, grab & go watch.
Tuna is one of my favorites

The Omega megaquartz marine chronometer is on my must have list.
My Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay had a fantastic quartz movement! It would save power then 'wake up' to the right time (to the second!).

"Price it right" might be said about all models of all brands.

It drives me nuts to see a quartz watch where the second hand doesn't land on the markers. Even the GS shown in the video missed the marks!

@@Mark-sd7fc I've read from different sources that the Grand Seiko 9Fs are supposed to hit the markers every time, but I've haven't seen one myself.
I have two 9F and the seconds hand hits the markers almost spot on.What you see in this video is the angle it was filmed.
@ ALMOST Exactly!!
@Mark-sd7fc yeah it's like 1/10 off, almost imperceptible.I think only Citizen's 0100 is hitting the markers to the absolute perfection.
If you have a 3rd camera, please use it. Place it in a spot that allows it to film both of you together. It feels like you guys are talking to one another from two separate locations. I know you're not, but it feels like it.
Just trying to help.
Making the switch to 4k for our next content. Will try a new seating arrangement. Always looking to improve. Need to get better audio too
Just found your channel. Just curious any relation to Bruce Williams Talk Radio host from 80s and 90s?
No relation. Just the same name :)

sinn UX … the quartz perfection
GS Sbgx 261 brilliant value!
I have the Fossil at home here in Germany! Same thing, wore it everyday in my early teen times. Up for a photo?
Seiko Astron good for me
I got to many quartz watches that need batteries.
