@@TheStudioRats from the research that I did on the Astoria (when a mint-condition combo found it's way onto my radar a few months ago), it seems that the Astoria range (especially the Customs) were considered nice amps, but far too expensive for most. the other issue that Marshall purists seemed to have with them was the aesthetics...it seems that Marshall fans want EVERY amp they ever release to look like a Plexi or a JCM800 - end of story! fortunately for me, I'm not biased and I love the dark red tolex with the cream GT stripe! :) I was lucky and picked mine up for a great price. cosmetically it was perfect and clean, but it did have a dodgy pre-amp valve. @@TheStudioRats you should buy a little black amp box by JHS, or a passive volume knob of any kind. It opens up the tonal possibilities massively. Love the demo. This vs revv d20 can't decide
Great video on this great amp. I bought one last summer and it was my best gear purchase in quite some time. I also run mine through an OX Box. Would be really cool to know what your OX setup looks like with this? (ie; which speaker cab, mics, comp, EQ etc). Keep up the good work mate ✌🏻
Ive got the vintage combo which comes with a 10” speaker and sounds amazing. Id love to hear it through a 12”
I have the studio vintage head running through 2 1x12 cabs with Scumback speakers. It’s awesome.
I have the sv20c and I got the sv212 as an extension cab so the 1 10" and 2 12" it's freakishly loud
I just traded in my DSL for this guy. There's a huge price difference. I'll be honest, the DSL is a really underestimated amp. the gain channel is as good as any (including against the jcm800) but the clean channel? not so much. But I can say that of most marshalls out there. Not this guy! prob one of the best clean tones I'v ever heard
I always enjoyed the clean channel a lot. But the OD channels better. I donlove my DSL401 very much and I plan on sticking a Creamback in there but long term I need a mini Plexi. Can't stomach selling the DSL though, so I'll have to save for the SV20H. Probably run ut through the can until I can afford a seperate one....
Sounds bloody great to me. Mustav one
I'm trying to decide between a JTM45 and one of these, specifically looking for early Rev Billy G .. Home use, have a Fryette. What you recommend please ? Thank you.
What drive did you use for the strat? Thanks for the answer.
I came here to hear the dimed Marshall. Thanks.
Great amp...! I've got one... just curious, what speaker were you playing through here....?
This is one of the best video of SV20H, and I bought one really amazing! I just want to ask you which distortion pedal would you recommend for more gainy tones ? I have only bd2 and sd1 and feels like something missing for high gain. Thanks 🙏🏼
The amp needs to be turned up, get an attenuator then even a boost before it sounds great.
Routing !! yeah!! amazing!!
.
Paul, will you be demoing the Silver Jubilee studio version?
AND any chance of your Katana MKII Plexi Patch?
.
Hey Black Mirror, maybe at some point. Marshall only sent me the 800 and the plexi. Unfortunately they are going back this week. I’m going to miss the Plexi.
@@TheStudioRats wow you betchya - you had a lot of fun with those, especially the Vintage. Could the boys club together for a studio investment?
Many thanks, Paul
Great demo.
Plexi is best guitar amp ever made !!! Slo1oo,Friedman be100,Bogner xtc......is only very expensive clone! Plexi is first and last word of rock !!!
id love to see a comperison between Friedman small box 20 vs Marshall SV20H
Sounds killer 👌
great sounding video man! I own one of these, and it's a terrific amp...it's been having a bit of a rest since I got a Marshall Astoria Custom a little while back, but I plugged my SV20 into my 1960A the other day and was really into the tones I was getting. ☺
Those Astorias are great amps, I’m surprised they weren’t more popular.
I was lucky and picked mine up for a great price. cosmetically it was perfect and clean, but it did have a dodgy pre-amp valve. I decided to change every valve in there with Genelex Gold Lions, and I'm very happy with it.
Oh, and for 30 watts (also switchable to 5W)...it's LOUD! :)
Great touch mate!
That Gretsch sounded lovely. Was it an Electromatic model?
Best video of Marshall SV20, so far.
Well done!
Made me GAS!
Btw: which Strat is that one?
Cheers,
Cheers it’s a custom shop 62
Great video. What pick ups are in the Tele? My Tele pick ups sound mismatched :(
What speaker, what Modulation did you use? It sounded fabulous 😲
Wish you’d had a dB meter in the room on that intro... I’ve heard it’s WAY TO LOUD for typical home use. I usually run at around 101-104 dB when alone at home.
Just picked up an SV20H with its matching 212 cab for £825 which was bought a month ago and used a few times. Think I got a deal an cant wait to try it at home. Anyone thinking of one for home, it's LOUD when I tested it!
Bargain
I have one and its the loudest 20w I have ever heard lol
One thing to keep in mind about these amps is they have no master volume and to sound the best you have to Crank them. Even at 20 or 5 watts that’s way beyond house level volume.
Use a reactive loud and get great tone at low volume
Fortunately I have a UA OX. Hell even my Deluxe Reverb is really loud at 4 1/2 without the OX!
Your right about cranking it. I have one and it's loud as hell but I love it. Especially with the channels jumpered.
I just don’t get it: Are hearing it in the room through your spearkers via the UA OX or are you hearing it through a cab with a mic?
It's kinda sad that we live in a world where a guitar player is not allowed to just play guitar CLASSICS from 20+ years ago to showcase some gear because of stupid copyright BS. This is actually killing music
Of course you can you just won't be monitized
I just got one havent used it yet got to find a cheaper cab poor boy here im just hopeing i can dime it back off on volume on git and it cleans up
I need one of those, but I just love my Katana now.
Great video. You guys rock.
I had to chuckle a little though being a guy born in 61 who played in the 80s. I would have never thought of a tele as the guitar to use with a cranked Marshall tube amp. 😂🤟
Regards from the midwest USA.
Yeah Page recorded a lot of Zeppelin using a telecaster. They are an amazingly versatile guitar.
Awesome stuff 🎸 subscribed 👍
Thanks for this demo btw! Helped me dial in the amp waaaay better!
Perhaps a late for this but...at the 6:00 point you played the Tele & said it was probably "the best drive sound you've gotten...". Could you please say which drive pedal you were using at that point ? It really was great. Thanks very much.
Hi Charles, I’m afraid it was some time ago and don’t remember, but by the so d of it it was probably an Xotic bb preamp.
Own and LOVE.
Nice one. There’s a back order at the moment, so I’m expecting my one in a couple of months.
@@TheStudioRats you should buy a little black amp box by JHS, or a passive volume knob of any kind. It opens up the tonal possibilities massively. You can drive both channels like you would a preamp section, while using the passive knob as a master and get heavy sounds quietly or moderately. Then when you throw a clean boost into the mix it will do everything a jcm800 will do and more..at moderate levels. The amp sounds so much warmer when you're driving it's front end!
Full scrape,, I like it.
A 💯 watt goes a little crazy when I do that.
Nice midds tone on that telli
Great playing as always. Have a question for you, how do you listen to your sound? I know you're going through OX but I'm wondering if the sound is coming out of studio monitors..? Thanks.
Cheers. Yes I listen out of my studio monitors.
What overdrive pedal are you using?
Can you advise what the audio trail is after the OX, and what brand and model are your monitors?
Great video . Mind mentioning what model Gretsch that is ? Thanks .
It’s a Brian Setzer hot rod.
what was the overdrive pedal at 5:29 ?
Pro quality plexi tone! Is that thru the OX or are you mic-ing a speaker?
Hi Paul, great demo. I'm thinking of getting this amp, I'm bedroom only, dyer think it would be too loud? Can you tell me how you mic'd the cab, cos the sound is great with all the high nuonces. Cheers. (I'm thinking of getting an attenuator as well) Subbed.
It’s REALLY loud, you’ll defo need an attenuator if you want to use it properly at home. I think I used a UA OX for this vid.
@@TheStudioRats Thanks for this Paul. Yes I'll get an attenuator for sure. All the best.
Dude, awesome!
Sounds great!
Cheers Jimmy.
