    This is an underrated video. I searched everywhere how to do this, and this is the only video I found which was in details that I could understand.

    I am from rural eastern India and rice crispies is my staple food. When I am staying abroad I long for this. After watching this video I plan to attempt it in my kitchen. Hats off to you for bringing in a modern way of making it.

      Thank you so much. But I can't take any credit. It was those amazing people in rural India that I was trying to learn from and my attempt was nowhere near as good as theirs. I plan to do an update to this video maybe showing some of the additional things I've learned since making the video partly as a result of all the wonderful advice and tips I've been given from the many knowledgeable viewers. Stay tuned, check out some of my other content and remember to like, share and subscribe.

      Hi I tried doing it with sand but it did not puff . What could be the reason . I used regular rice

  • @diyaa9294
    @diyaa9294 5 років тому +106

    You can use salt instead of sand to get the same result. Just heat the salt and puff the rice a little (like 2 spoon fulls at a time). sieve the puffed rice latter to remove the salt.

    • @FoodTech101
      @FoodTech101  5 років тому +16

      I think that might also work but may result in a salty taste. Give it a try and let me know how that works out. Always willing to learn new ways of doing things. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

      @@FoodTech101 Hello There, I the rice is dried 100% the salt won't stay when trying to bake for puffed rice. And you don't need to even wash the rice for puffed one.
      I'd recommend not to deep fry l, since the oil will stay and will become soggy/ soft.

    By the way, oil fried puff rice made from dehydrated cooked rice is very yummy! Cook any rice with less water so that the cooked rice don't become too sticky. The dryer the better. Dry the cooked rice in the Sun or Oven or Dehydrator. Add salt/pink salt/ black salt any, and black pepper powder in the fried puff rice and mix. Very yummy.

    Fantastic video! All you got to do is (the last step) heat up lots of salt in a wok, then add roasted rice. Keep stirring for good 2-3 minutes. You'll see rice Pop. Strain the roasted rice, let it cool down and pour in a container. Trust me after you roast rice the salt won't make your rice too salty. Happy Cooking 😊

    Have you guys found it, how its made? Rice puff? I can tell you almost did it but reverse the process you used in the video!
    In india we have pre-boiled rice, some one said per-boiled, not sure if he mean to say pre-boiled rice. Anyways, simmer your rice in low flame heat for about 10 minutes, don't boil. Drain the rice and let it dry. Take the dried rice and roast it in a thick pan or cast iron wok or pan over heat, until the rice grain become crunchy, meaning, removing the moistures from the rice( it's like you roast food items in the sun to remove moisture and make the food more dry). Then take that final product rice which you just roasted to remove moisture( don't let it cool down after roast) and add it in your pre heated sand or salt or oil. Puffed rice.

    Shout out to anyone listening!! The practically perfect way to make home made rice Krispies is to heat the oil (I use coconut) to medium hi, or #7.5 in a medium size pot, then add only a cup of rice at a time for even cooking. Strain through a metal seive into a metal bowl or other pot. Spread the puffed rice out on a baking sheet on parchment paper and put in a warm oven at medium low about 175°. !!! NOW THE SECRET !!! USE Minute Rice! Minute rice is pre cooked and pre dried, so all you have to do is fry it 😁 Enjoy.

  • @bhavanapatelabsolutelytrue2625

    Instead u frying them in oil, first u cook them fully and then sun Dray them all grain must be saperated then again cook them in real hot salt and strained them in large strainer you might see the good result.

    I’m not sure about this but I think you were right with the water in the beginning, cause by example popcorn pops because of the humidity (grains that don’t pop probably didn’t pop cause there wasn’t enough moisture content) when it gets hot the water wants to escape so it pops. Maybe that’s why the rice needed water to pop

    I think the first step, whether simply mixing in some water like the Indian woman did, or preparing rice as normal, before drying is to simply help the drying out process. The goal is to get all remaining moisture out of the grain, and because of osmosis, cooking it or coating it with water first, facilitates the moisture extraction

    The original video that uses sand, at no point was oil added.
    Kellogg's soak the rice, dry it out naturally, roll it out and then bake it.
    What you made was fried rice, saturated in oil. I cant imagine it tastes good with milk.
    Also, was it not long grain rice you used?
    Whole grain rice is something completely different isn't it?
    Apparently Kellogg's use medium grain rice.

    I wonder if it could be done in the microwave without oil, just like popcorn. I think the chemistry is that you are forcing the water to boil out of the cooked rice, suddenly, and that causes it to pop, so I suspect it should be possible to do it in the microwave with the right combination of water and heat.

I tried soaking the rice drying it out and trying to cook it in salt didn't work rice just burned not even one puff. I tried the same way Wedding the rice letting it dry out and try to deep fry it didn't work all it did was burn. Puff rice is hard to find anymore nowadays other than a wheat popped rice which is not what I am looking for. Let's see if this works.

    • @FoodTech101
      @FoodTech101  4 роки тому +2

      I didn't have access to the sand to try it so not sure but and 'clean' sand I guess would work. That said, another viewer said that they don't even use sand, it's always 'salt'. I don't think coal would work as I think the temperature might get too high and it would be difficult to separate the coal from the rice in the same way you could sieve out the rice. But hey, just give it a try. I'm always up for learning new ways to do things.
