I wouldn't have expected a Mario & Luigi sequel for years. All of those in one year is so GOOD. Mario is being treated well and unsafely, which is magnificent.
Sakaguchi left Square Enix on pretty bad terms after the EXTREME failure of the Final Fantasy movie, Spirits Within, which I believe he was in charge of. On their Twitter account, Square said they're happy to be working with him again, which makes me think they're on better terms now, which is good.
Square should have been more merciful. He had so much to do with saving their sorry otherwise useless butts with FF in 1987. Without him they'd have been thrown to the wayside! Yes they lost like 96 million on the movie but they made billions from his former work overall. So he should have still been in the green with them.
It kinda makes sense. The people he fell out with probably aren't even at SE anymore, it's been so many years since he left. It's not like it was the company itself that he hated, so I guess it's not that surprising that they'd welcome him back under new management.
They haven't had bad blood per se in years. He's since worked with them in a lot of promotional stuff, like interviews about the history of FF, or small features once he started playing FF14 (which I think he still plays; he got hooked). I also think his exit from the company was his own decision, feeling frustrated that things with Spirits Within didn't go well, as well as being frustrated with his administrative role in the company (but in a large Japanese corporation, it's possible he was forced out and simply claimed it was his own decision).
I really dont think a companys PR account (especially if its in english) is the best wource for how a company really feels. That said, i cant imagine theyd be working with them if they hated his guts
Honestly this was one of the BEST non A-list game direct in a LONG time. These were some really great surprises. I didn't see anyone predicting a Zelda game or M&L. I was happy to see a DK country remake, I knew they had to be working on that...money maker.
Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is one of my favourite games EVER it is so amazing to see it officially translated. Metroid Prime 4 and the new Zelda are both SO ANTICIPATED too.
Getting a (good) game where you get to play as Zelda is a long time coming, and I like the puzzle focus since she’s the embodiment of wisdom. I also really like that Nintendo seems open to using remake game engines for new games. Maybe they use TTYD Remake’s engine again since the technical groundwork is done. I’m also hoping that after Dragon Quest 1+2 HD we finally get the Zenithia trilogy on something other than DS and mobile. With the series getting more popular finally, it’s crazy that 4-9 aren’t available on a current system.
I really love DQ I & II on GBC, so that surprise announcement made me so happy! 🥰 Like III is good, but those two on GBC have a special place in my heart. Also really happy about Mario & Luigi and the Marvel collection. Many more look good, but those were the standouts for me. **EDIT** We really need Chrono Trigger HD 2D... Maybe at some point... one can dream. XD
Mario Brothers Superstar Saga and the new Zelda game both have me so unbelievably excited. As a kid that used to pretend Link was a girl in the Gameboy games (Seasons, Ages, Awakening), I'm glad to see us finally getting an installment with a female lead. Looked like such fun gameplay, I'll pick it up for me and then for sure my nieces!!!
Four Swords should've been one of the first games on GBA NSO, to showcase its online feature, but better late than never. I'm glad to finally get Zero Mission as well.
I don't know how to feel about the "item spawning that will probably turn into simple puzzles that will stump me" but I do like that it isn't BotW again, and that it's using the Link's Remakening engine.
Sakaguchi has been somewhat welcomed back by some of the better SE staff for things (especially the XIV team), so i think he's on better terms now. Also wow you glossed over the fighting game thing lol. Its really big because MvC2 was stuck in a sort of limbo.
one thing i wonder if anybody is considering with the "9 years since the last new Mario & Luigi game" is if they are thinking of the remakes or Paper Jam. cuz Paper Jam is almost 9 years ago, not the 2 remakes. edit: another thing, the HD-2D Remakes. the name is straight up. its not a lie under Square's name this time. no weird name, no LACK of an extra descriptor subtitle like most remakes, it just says what it is.
I think you’re glossing over the importance of the Marvel vs Capcom Collection. This is major news especially considering the limbo of that licensing curfufle and what this potentially could lead to as far as the future of Capcom Vs games.
I would throw money at a title that could somehow combine Dragon Quest 1 and 2 into a single continuous narrative. Even if you have to mess with the timeline to have Erdrick's descendant and the trio of later descendants be able to party together. (time travel shenanigans, whatever) You could bridge the two with a arc involving taming the outer world...maybe even have each of the three future kingdoms ruled by a demon lord that needs slaying.
2:37 I am kinda mad because most of the eshop games I bought on Wii U ended up coming to switch Metroid Prime Trilogy (1/3 at least) DKC Returns (I beat it a couple months ago too lol) Mario RPG (that stung a little) PLEASE MARIO AND LUIGI PARTNERS IN TIME, DO NOT COME TO SWITCH YOU ARE MY LAST HOPE (I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT SUPER PAPER MARIO)
This direct definitely exceeded my expectations! No individual heavy hitter, but a lot of hype announcements... Metroid Prime 4 honestly didn't get me as excited as a lot of people, but it's still awesome to finally see it released!
Oh, also, I really think it was too early for the Mario Party game. Like, it'd be a lot more exciting as part of the Launch Roster for the next console instead of being the third Mario Party on the Switch
Was honestly hopeful for a new Zelda game that would cross graphical boundaries with an immersive jaw dropping storyline and all we got was super princess Zelda with the reused link between worlds graphics 😂 basically a rerun of the first Zelda led game on cd-i
Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario TTYD, and Mario and Luigi in the span of a year is insane
I wouldn't have expected a Mario & Luigi sequel for years. All of those in one year is so GOOD. Mario is being treated well and unsafely, which is magnificent.

That direct. Wow, wow, wow, wow... ... ... wow

Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is one of my favourite games EVER it is so amazing to see it officially translated.
Metroid Prime 4 and the new Zelda are both SO ANTICIPATED too.
The Investigations collection will also feature a bonus case where Edgeworth catches a bad case of clussy fever
One of the most hype directs yet! I feel like I was the only one who lost it over the DQ remakes LMAO 🔥🔥🔥🤟

Donkey Kong Country Returns and Prime 4 were in the same direct. That's a huge W for the Retro Studios Lore.
yep that direct had us all out our boots.
This direct looked really good to me. So many interesting things coming out! 👍
September is a great month for games - The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, and Astro Bot.
I really love DQ I & II on GBC, so that surprise announcement made me so happy! 🥰 Like III is good, but those two on GBC have a special place in my heart. Mario & Luigi 😇 My hope came true

Fantastic job by Nintendo.
I think Legend of Zelda is Nintendo's version of minecraft mechanics, summoning things/interactive in-world elements
Four Swords should've been one of the first games on GBA NSO, to showcase its online feature, but better late than never.
I'm glad to finally get Zero Mission as well.
I'm most excited for Fantasian. I'm always eager for more Uematsu and Sakaguchi brilliance. :)
And the battle system looks neat too.
All these look so amazing. What good news!
Mario & Luigi and a new top-down Zelda. What a direct!!
I don't know how to feel about the "item spawning that will probably turn into simple puzzles that will stump me" but I do like that it isn't BotW again, and that it's using the Link's Remakening engine.
And I'm excited to finally be able to play Fantasian!
So many good games to buy
The Ace Attorney website says the Switch port of the AAI collection is getting a physical release. All other ports are going to remain digital
The new Ace Attorney is getting a physical release on Switch in North America
Oh thank goodness!!!
I'm so happy for you!!!
Just missing a Fire Emblem to make it a truely perfect direct for me
Sakaguchi has been somewhat welcomed back by some of the better SE staff for things (especially the XIV team), so i think he's on better terms now.
Also wow you glossed over the fighting game thing lol. Its really big because MvC2 was stuck in a sort of limbo.
Especially top down Zelda's.... *Cough* triforce heroes *cough*

The Zelda Zelda game looks fun
Regards physical Edgeworth - looks like it's only available on PS4 annoyingly. Would have definitely picked up the physical if I could.
You forgot about the best game, the funko one

Hit me up if you really want a dk partner 😏 you know someone without all the driving. Dk was my jam on Super Nintendo
it has NO starfox so NO it doesnt have everything
Was honestly hopeful for a new Zelda game that would cross graphical boundaries with an immersive jaw dropping storyline and all we got was super princess Zelda with the reused link between worlds graphics 😂 basically a rerun of the first Zelda led game on cd-i
Nintendo Direct Surprises: Not a single new character in the entire list. Oh, wait, that's not a surprise at all, is it?
This isn’t the first Zelda game where you play as her; in the last CD-I game you also played as Zelda.
Does that even count? Id almost guarantee you never played that game 💀
She's playable in two of the three CD-I games
But we all know they don't count ;)
