My favorite artistic direction in Zelda was Twilight Princess.
@@M_Alexander I think the GameCube games did the best job at showing the far ends of the spectrum in Zelda art style: the cartoonish/expressive and dark fantasy.
@@MachFiveFalcon I agree.. I love Zelda is Dark Fantasy settings; as for me it fits the lore.
I would argue the bad faith ragebait arguments spread on Twitter don't reflect the fandom's consensus. Honestly, a Zelda game with Zelda as the main character was loooooong overdue.
Twitter is seriously 50% bad faith rage bait arguments and 50% pron now smh
I think most fans would agree with that, but the manner in which they do it also matters.
Personally I don't think a Zelda focuses game was overdue because it's not like one day they said we will make a game starring her then never doing it. Storywise she is meant to be either the assistant or the reason for the fighting. There is nothing wrong with that it's not like we need to make her a star. But with that said I am going to love this game because it looks like it will be fun.
It's not woke for having Zelda as the playable character at all some stuff like that is totally going on in other games with DEI and I see some people give dumb takes LIKE OOOHH NOOO WOMAN. Wich is dumb HOWEVER 1 thing I am also noticing is that apparently Nintendo is having DEI consultants for their company and games so one of the kinda legitimate concerns that I hear is that the only reason we are getting Zelda playable is because of DEI and not because we wanted it and well DEI consultants make games bad they are screw lose think of it like a circle is an oval but an oval is not a circle and basically we might be getting big bad circle but we will just have to wait and see
Back on 3DS, I wanted Grezzo to use their remake engine to make an original title, and I'm so happy we're finally getting something like that now!
Only thing I disagree with is glowing and casting a shadow. A glowstick still casts a shadow
The triangles that trail behind Tri represent Zelda’s magic meter. Every echo has a cost (though many seem to cost zero) and those triangles are “spent” to create the echo. When the echo fades, Zelda gets them back.
They’re just mad cause they’re just now finding out the guy in the green hat isn’t the one named “Zelda”
No one is mad about this. This is fake outrage. You are falling right into it hook line and sinker. Unless you think the 0.00001% who have a problem with a female led game is worth even mentioning. Me taking a dump this morning would be more news worthy than that.
I only see positives about this title. As someone who loves the original Zelda Link's Awakening, I was all-in for the Switch remake and it's art style. Nintendo as a business is very savvy when it comes to reusing existing assets: Majora's Mask, the Oracle games, the NDS Zelda games, and Tears of the Kingdom are perfect examples of that within the Zelda franchise alone. So them re-using the same style as this other game makes perfect sense. I think this decision offers them more room to experiment with Zelda as the main protagonist and instead of having to build a new engine completely from scratch, they could iterate on these new creative gameplay systems.
This is a horrible aesthetic. Apparently the forgot about the awesome art direction and aesthetic and setting of Twilight Princess. That is a format they sadly used only TWICE and it has been years since they used it. Zelda's best design was in that title and they failed here to bring it back.
not only everything you said but also the less time and money they spend on graphics and engine development, the more time and money they have to spend on gameplay.
totk would be no where near as good as it is if they had to restart from scratch after botw...
@reinatycoon3644
Come the f*** on, I'm not even a Zelda nerd and even I can see that Twilight Princess' art direction was not made for gameplay like this. If anything, Breath of the Wild is the one you should be complaining about in this regard.
I always wished for a remake that Nintendo would lean into the anime aesthetics of the original Link's Awakening more, like we see glimpses of in the opening cutscene, photographs, scenes with Marin, and concept art (applies to A Link to the Past too). I like the art style, but it's disappointing that the chance for that is probably gone forever with the existing remake. Though it kind of reminds me of FF7 in how it has a sort of storybook toy aesthetic which does work well in that game. The contrasting almost child-like nature of the art style makes the dark moments of the game feel even more grave somehow.
Game Journalists can get lost. They are the ones wishing this would fail so they can blame it on "toxic fans".
Lolwut? Jon Del Arroz is one of your guys, bud. Don’t disown him now that you’re getting flak for his absolutely ridiculous hot take the other day. 😂
No game journalist ever said this
The one who are complaining are the typical capital G gamers (🤢) who are mad about playing as Zelda.. a woman..
@@Bareq_99 just because fascists are allowed to play video games doesnt mean they are "Gamers" (with a capital G).
Personally I was hoping they would say "now it's up to Zelda to save Link" or something, they made it sound like now that Links gone, now Zelda can get all the credit instead. Honestly though I hate the announcers, they're completely unnecessary. The Xbox Showcase didn't need someone to interrupt every trailer to talk to you like a baby.
I hope that there’s a plot twist and Tri ends up being the villain
Empty worlds are something that really irk me. (I love older games, for example, but barren worlds is something that constantly puts me off from them since they were obviously more common due to limitations.) So I hope this Zelda game is a full lush world on its own. :) Other than that, I'm excited to see what's up. It's got potential.
to be fair most zelda overworlds are fairly empty other than random enemies
I liked the dollhouse-style in LttP right away, and I’m looking forward to this one!
Funny thing: sword master mode is a thing in the game. They kept it quiet so all this controversy for nothing.
I seriously don't think it's woke. It's a way to use the echoes.
I’m quite excited for it! I personally see no problems with it!
The npc battling is not an echo, because it hass't got any of Tris' triangles on top of it. Every echo has triangle, depending of the price for each echo. Example, undead echo has more triangles, that a table. And Tri start with 3 triangles, but they expand. We can see 4 at one time
Internet forever: “The Legend of Zelda” where Zelda isn’t playable doesn’t make sense.
Internet today: dis iz woke tresh!
Why can the wind push a box but not a potted plant?
I commend how brazen asking youtube comments is instead of just taking one more look at the footage.
That's a STONE planter with soil in it apposed to a presumably empty wooden box. Do some yard work or gardening, and you'll feel the difference.
@trapez77 Haha sorry that was obnoxious and you were probably being genuine. I was projecting that you were being a smart ass so it felt like a challenge to out-smart ass. I guess that's the internet ( ._.)...
I don't find "Echoes of Wisdom" to be woke in the slightest. It's not like they turned Princess Zelda into Captain Marvel.
None of the people who usually complain about "wokeness" in games are claiming it is. The biggest criticisms I see for the game are actually that its not going fully back to traditional Zelda liked they hoped, or its reusing the LTTP map again.
Captain Marvel sucks, the plot and characters are ass fuckingly boring and its pro America/Military propaganda, as is the rest of the mcu honestly. If you want better stories and more interesting characters than consume more independently created content like indie games or web comics as they don’t usually have the censorship limitations that AAA games and movies have
I don’t hate Captain Marvel, so I don’t see a problem with that at the moment 😅🤷♂️.
I hope they are putting some time into optimizing the engine they are using for this. Link's Awakening remake was good but had some performance problems.
I feel like people have wanted to play as Zelda in a full game since Zelda/Sheik was playable in Smash Bros. Melee. Probably even before that - like when Zelda had more of an action role in the old cartoons (that the Philips CD-i games tried to emulate I think lol).
I've always wanted a Sheik or Zelda game, but I never wanted it to revolve around copy-pasting random world elements. I wanted the gameplay to explore the abilities and strengths that the characters already have in a way that feels organic to Zelda as a series.
@@RustyKoi I can absolutely agree with that. I hope I can enjoy this new game - but I want Zelda to at least somewhat go back to linear gameplay as well.
1. This isn't the first Zelda game with Zelda as the protagonist. There was Wand of Gamelon and Zelda's Adventure. Yeah, they're non0canon, but they're still examples.
2. The REAL controversy is they didn't subtitle it "The Missing Link".
While I don't mind them using Link's Awakening style for this game, I would have preferred if they had done the same art style as Link Between Worlds. Somehow redone it, touched it up and whatnot from 3ds. Mostly because the overworld seems to be very much inspired by alttp, which albw took inspiration from of course
I wish the monster echoes were done by transforming Tri, and he would keep whatever monster form you give him until you change it.
I personally like Link between Worlds art style
Well, whichever he meant, A Link Between Worlds had a fantastic artstyle.
It's obviously the Link to the Past overworld. Look at the Island with the Cave, that is the mysterious pond where you upgrade your bomb and arrow count. There are the small islands surrounding that, including one with the heart piece on there. You can see that sand map with all the rounded rocks, Death Mountain, Hyrule Castle...
death mountain is not on the left in A Link to the Past, its the lost Woods, so that already disproves that
it reminds me more of minish cap with the castle town and death mountain
Here's my take: It's Zelda! There's not a single bad game. There are some poor design choices whithin some games but they are all good.
I personally really like the design of Tri. But that aside, why is nobody talking about Tri's aesthetic being reminiscent of the aesthetic of the silent realm guardians?
And to answer the map question...yeah, there are a handful of screens where the screen and the mini-map show that some areas are near identical to Alttp/ALbW, so it's not just the general layout. The only drastic change I saw was the addition of a Volcano (Death mountain probably) to the North-West and returning to a non-volcanic Mount Hebra (That's what that Mountain was called in Alttp's Light World) in the North and North-East. Oh and the scenes where she's in a more tropical looking Forest and a coastal area. So it seems like we get some expansions of the map in comparison to AlttP.
I'm literally SOOOO excited for this game but I agree that I hateeeee Tri's design hahaha. I love puzzle solving mechanics with copying enemies and stuff, that's so cool! I'm a big fan of puzzle games, and ESPECIALLY the puzzles in Zelda games. I'm glad they're leaning more into that.
'It's Zelda'. I dunno... copy pasting tables and other random objects? There's so much 'Zelda' that's missing here. It could really be anything, but it's got Zelda-themed window dressing.
Zelda herself has so much gameplay potential as a character, and instead of exploring ANY of that, this is what they're doing with her? It's a letdown after decades of hoping.
yeah what happened to zeldas own magic beams of light, heck she was able to use swords in both wind waker and twilight princess and ninja moves as sheik in oot thats not even including the hyrule warriors games
I'm still not sold on it. I don't think they should have based the combat entirely around copying random objects and enemies. I wish they'd given Zelda a sword or at least let her whack things with the staff so you don't have to summon a bunch of rocks to throw or stand back and let a summoned enemy do all the work.
It's always a vocal minority. Like it's totally fine to have concerns about the Zelda formula and the future of the series, but I guarantee most people who buy this game are going to love it :-)
The Links Awakening remake was my favorite art style they've ever used in a Zelda game. Playable Zelda has been a wish I've had for like 15 years. This game for me specifically is everything I could have asked for.
My only concern about this game now is...if they try the dungeon creator mode thing again, will they screw it up this time? lol
I'm not interested in the gameplay mechanic for this game, navigating the fuse menu in Tears of the Kingdom sucked
People complaining about something that glows casting a shadow is a small pet peeve of mine.
Granted, in the dank dungeon scene we have as an example, it doesn’t make sense; but in many scenarios, such as being outside in the sunlight, an opaque object will almost certainly cast more of a shadow than any glow it might have could dissipate.
Arlo also felt uncomfortable about the graphics, but he was a lot more... explosive about it. Bit much. Seemed to imply that there was a bigger issue than it was.
People have been begging for a Zelda lead game for a while. I think people are offended because this is a Zelda without a sword - bear in mind we've had two Zeldas who both have a penchant for sword wielding (Twilight Princess and Wind Waker), so they expected Zelda to actually do fighting herself. It's also kinda weird because we don't even have a Zelda who's using recognised powers (some are archers or can cast projectile magic, and at least one was Zelda's version of a ninja >.>). And well, there's always going to be a number of people who are offended because "A WOMAN PROTAGONIST!!1!? IN MY ZELDA GAME!?" Which, if anyone's like that, I'd rather not even talk to them. Ick.
With regards to the map, there's a few that are definitely looking similar. But then the Hyrule Mountain Range from ALTTP is a single chain in that game, while there's a prominent mountain on the west side of Hyrule Castle that I'm fairly sure wasn't that close, and there's a village in the desert. The alt world we've been shown seems to have more of a kind of Distortion World thing going on.
it looks fine to me. I prefer the top down zelda/style over 3D/BotW look....i do hope switch 2 gives us Oracle remakes..
if they remake any zelda game id actually like them to switch perspectives turn the 2d zeldas 3d and vice versa
I feel like the closest we’ve ever gotten to playing as Zelda in a mainline game was Phantom Hourglass. You play as link but also Zelda’s spirit in armor. If I remember correctly, that is.
yeah drove me nuts in that game like the wind waker dungeons but more controls turning the entire game into an escort mission
@@maltesefalcon85 That was probably the one. I always confuse the two as the both look alike and have us use the stylus to move.
I'm super excited to play this. When totk was getting close to launch, there was alot of ppl wishing to have a playable zelda and I was always against that for that game because I didn't want those sections to take away from links adventure. I didn't want to have "that one part" of the game I dreaded (ex. skyward swords silent realm sections). Not to say it would have been bad, but I was nervous for how it would be implemented. Given this is a game with full focus on zeldas adventure and what they've shown so far with the gameplay, I'm very excited.
I wasn't a fan of the aesthetic for the Link's Awakening remake. It looked good, but it didn't really fit the tone of the game. (note: spoilers ahead)
That game hit me in the feels. It's genuinely sad to meet all these characters and get to know the island well, only to have it revealed that it's all a dream and they'll all vanish if Link plays the instruments at the Wind Fish egg and defeats the nightmare. Having everything look like little plasticine toys with a kids-toy-piano soundtrack kind of took away the gravity of what Link was setting out to do and just made the ending feel less impactful"
But because Echoes of Wisdom is a new game built around this style, I think it'll do alright, but I just hope they don't go for that "my first instruments" soundtrack again.
Funnily enough the music and art style works incredibly well for me precisely because of the story. It felt incredibly dreamlike to me, the childlike character models and music feeling slightly off and luring you into a false sense of security. And it wasn't like the original game didn't have weird stylistic choices with its cameos from games with completely different styles. To each their own, I guess!
People have been clamoring for a Zelda game with Zelda as the protagonist for as long as I remember. I can't believe people would think the concept is a "woke game" lmao
No they haven’t. Not even close. This Amos the dumbest argument someone can make
I can pick up on woke from 100 yards away and this ain't it.
i dont think the nitpick that a being of light should not cast a shadow. thats kind of dumb.
literally change it to a light source instead of a shadow and we're good.
I just hope this game didnt take substantial resources away from making a normal zelda game. I dont want to have to wait 6 years for a new zelda game in a similar vein to every other game. Link centered with a healthy mix of puzzle and combat.
I just hope they don't keep making zelda the main character. Its about link primarily, and always will be
There is a big difference between woke games and games from a different prospective. This game is not woke, it is not pushing for women's rights, the lgbtq, or anything of the sort. They simply changed up the formula of having link be the MC by having him in trouble and zelda which is normally at most a side character be the hero for a change. Link is still considered the hero of the zelda series and I am sure that will always be the case. This game is simply them illustrating that they can use zelda as a MC for a game as well seeing the world from her perspective.
I'm a simple man. I see Shesez talking about Zelda, I hit like
Game journalist are pissed that no one cares that the new Zelda game is female lead. They just care that it looks good. They're gonna create a sexist boogeyman for their bull crap articles.
I think the problem With doing links awakening in the style of a modern Zelda game is that without making the characters the same cartoony proportions the game design theory around the 2d side scrolling sections with the platforming is lost in terms of what they were intending to go for.
It's clearly a manufactured controversy. Pay it no mind and it'll go away.
Why? It is its own separate spin off, and an original idea, what's to complain about?
Here's a hot take ... How about we wait until the game is actually released before either praising the game or casting aspersions before anyone has played the game.
Ok long post time now that I'm done with the video...
Since we hardly ever got a Zelda game with Zelda as the main playable lead character besides for the CDI joke game for the most part I'd of appreciated something more in line with the aesthetics of Twilight Princess or OoT. With more realistic mature designs. I'd love it if they mad a TP version Zelda as the main in a more dark and mature plot and art direction. Zelda would be a well rounded fighter and mage like the Red Mages from FF. Casting awesome arcane spells using the TF of Wisdoms power among other things. They could be creative and make her have to fight her emotional attachment to Link because the main foe is a corrupted Dark Link wielding the ToP with Dark Sages as his servants. The game would also be rated M for mature to appeal to the aging Zelda fan base. Zelda would have a powerful yet honorable and caring nature in perfect balance.
That stupid. All you doing is replaced link whit zelda. Zelda is not a swordsman she a magical user whit goddess like power. What the point of giving zelda her own game if you gonna do the same crap over again.
I think you might of just ruined Tri for me /jk
Honestly, I did get a sense of familiarity for me, and I think its because it reminds me of Meltan? Not sure why as the Chingling similarity makes a lot of more sense
I so absolutely agree with you on Tri's design.
I do not think he has anything to do with the triFORCE though
6:40 I was thinking the same thing
I'm personally excited that the Zelda franchise is potentially splitting like Mario into both 2D and 3D series. Thats been really good for Mario
I like it. reminds me of minish cap crossed with super paper mario . however I have a few worries myself. lack of control over fights might make things a lot more frantic if you are relying on monsters/rocks. another game with ganon- at this point he's a bit over played, and my biggest worry is that this will encourage the people who want the 3d zeldas to become multiplayer experiences. I prefer single player games and I don't want to have to rely on social interaction to play zelda. or even worse if its multiple protagonists you control at the same time ala resident evil zero . let me play as link and give me regular items back
"Now that Link is gone"? Does that imply that this game takes place during the time Link is sailing around and gets stuck on Koholint? Is that why they went with the same graphical design? I didn't watch the Direct or any trailers (just your reaction to the Direct and this video so far), so I don't know if that's already been explained, but it is an interesting concept.
For the graphical whiners, let them cry. There will always be some people who want to complain just because. Back when the offhand was introduced in Minecraft, people complained so much about such a thing that you don't even have to use if you don't want to. They even made mods to disable it completely to try and force that on you if you play their modpack. Personally, I think that because this is Zelda's first official solo outing, that this game won't be all that huge. So there really is no reason to go all "Tears of the Kingdom" with it. And who know, maybe this is just one step of us finally getting a co-op game where you're not just playing as different iterations of Link. I wouldn't mind a co-op game where you have different skills based on which character you choose. Just don't make it mandatory co-op.

Tri's design reminds me a lot of Kodama from Spirited Away. Imo a fairy companion would be kinda boring in comparison lol Tri is cute in a dopey way. Idk if a fairy companion like we've seen in the past would really work w/ today's graphical capabilities.
I don't see how this can be woke? I mean, the dynamic of these two character has been the foundation of the series. Unless Nintendo wants to turn her into a girl boss lesbian black woman with disabilities that is stronger then all men, but I don't see that. I'll check it out.
that's the secret about the people who unironically use the word woke:
they'll be upset simply about women with agency. Zelda does stuff that matters, so woke.

@@emdivineFrom my understanding 'the wokeness' accusation comes from an angle where both fans and haters agree on.
"We've been asking for a mainline game where you play as Zelda for 30 years."
People are conspiring that Nintendo would only make a mainline Princess Peach or Zelda game now due to the culture rather than its' own merit.
As a big Legend of Zelda fan, nothing about this game looks good to me. Graphics, gameplay, nothing. I did not like the graphics style when they brought it out with the Link's awakening remake. I tried. I bought it and ended up selling it. I just couldn't get into it. It looks like Nintendo ripped off Fisher Price toys.. I realize this new game isn't for me, that's fine. The biggest thing that bothers me is that people are calling this a traditional 2D zelda game. It's not at all. Traditional would be something that plays like the Original, Link to the Past, or the Gameboy games. Also, Zelda has been shown in various games to be a powerful magic user, and I feel like they really could have and should have leaned into that. Instead they choose a gimmick where you copy items to solve puzzles and even do combat... It's not really what I'm interested in.
I honestly think we won't know about he pandering until the game fully launches and we can analyze the script to find out how closely it was written to the traditional characterization of Zelda. We can accept differences since this is a heroic version so some traits may change but she's gotta feel like Zelda if you get my drift there. It's difficult to explain character feel, but if we are indeed going back to ALTTP Hyrule, it will depend on the time frame. It could be a bit in the future or past like what happened with Link Between Worlds. That's just my two cents on it. I'll wait for reviews and watching a playthrough before I pull the trigger on picking it up. I still haven't grabbed Link's Awakening DX yet because I feel it's overpriced when I can just play the original on NSO and it realy doesn't add much I care about anyway lol...
Huh? How on earth is this game "woke" in the slightest? I aint seen anyone sayin' that, then again I'm not really on twitter/IG
God only knows what you mean by "modern Zelda games" art style. Cel shading in a 2D game? So, Minish Cap with 60FPS. Meh.
Look I'm a nerdy guy but when UA-camrs give Nintendo advice, it's so bad.
Can’t believe Shesez won’t be getting the game because of Tri’s goofy design smh 🤦♂️
My experience with characters like Tri in video games are pretty minimal, so I can’t relate with you there. At most Tri reminds me of that Star from Disney’s Wish…which I find boring looking at most. Unless Tri’s got an annoying voice, I don’t have any problems with that character or they’re shadow that your weirdly nitpicking about.
And what is with the anti-woke crowd getting upset about this? Last time I checked most Zelda fans have been hoping for a main game where she’s playable for years. Those people are either paranoid or just party poopers that want to get attention via acting like having an unpopular opinion makes them special.
complaining about graphics in any game is the most snobby spoiled bratty thing one can do...
"games" are about "gameplay", rimworld is one of the best games of all time.
I have no problem with playing as Zelda and saving Link. (Tbh tho I'm not a huge Zelda series fan so ig im not too important in the discussion) however, the gameplay gimmick of echoes seems kinda... Gimmicky? Idk
The entire switch generation of Zelda games has been overly gimmicky. The only exceptions, ironically are the 2 remakes, Link's Awakening and Skyward Sword HD.
As long as the gimmick is pretty fun to play, I don’t mind 😅🤷♂️.
Tbh most Zelda games have a gimmick. It depends more on how the gimmick is balanced.
Still mad that the wolf sections of Twilight Princess are consistently the most boring >>
The only legitimate complaint is the art style
Woke is such an outdated term. What was "woke" 10 years ago is really just common sense and normality now
I cannot stand the artistic direction of this type. I do not like chibi style at all.
The only people who are not happy with the game are the weirdos who think a zelda game with zelda as a protagonist has gone woke. I would be so happy if those people would never play another zelda game for ever.
I guess some people think Zelda can't be the hero because she has girl parts and cooties. 😂
For me the only reason she can't be a hero is because the Master Sword has to be wielded by the Triforce of Courage incarnate which is not Zelda, she'sthe Trifoce of Wisdom incarnate. Which is why this game is set in a post Link and Ganon fight setting even if temporary. Which would be hard to do because usually after Link defeats Ganon peace comes in and negates any reason for a quest. Outside of maybe one to repair and restore the damage caused by Ganon. Which would also have been fun if done in a Civilization like simulator game starring Zelda.
@belovedwarrior3192 it looks like Ganon was defeated, and she's cleaning up part of the aftermath. Though i could be wrong.
@@ravenebony2267My guess is Ganon isn't defeated and Link will still use the Master Sword to defeat Ganon. However, we'll still have a Ganon boss fight, we'll just play the other side of the typical "Link wields the Master Sword to fight Ganon while Zelda uses the Bow of Light". So it'll be designed more as a puzzle boss instead of how it usually works.
when i was little, girls would laugh at us for playing zelda and mario.
Getting mad about a Zelda game where you play as Zelda is about as dumb as say, getting mad at a game called suicide squad: kill the Justice League because a member of the suicide squad, for example Harley Quinn killing a member of the Justice League, let's say for another example Batman.

i am so dissapointed in this game, not that it exists but the fact they they are basically saying that this is zelda going forward, if we had a real 2d zelda it wouldnt be an issue, but if this is the only 2d zelda we are getting then zelda is truly dead
Sorry but I'm one of the people who doesn't like this game. It looks extremely boring in my opinion. The gameplay mechanics look awful.
Youre more than welcome here friend. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game!
It's not even that the mechanics look awful, it's that the combat looks awful. If Zelda had say a fire rod and a bow alongside the tristaff then yeah, this game would be amazing, but once again Nintendo proves how short sighted they are this generation.
@@megaman37456 It appears that they didn’t want Zelda to be a Link clone. I guess it’s either this or Sheik & it appears Nintendo prefers to not use Sheik often unless it’s a special occasion like a spin-off like Super Smash Bros & Hyrule Warriors.

You didn't address the big concern that people think traditional Zelda, its' structure, etc. are now dead forever based on what Nintendo has shown. People saw 2D Zelda as the last bastion for that, and now that might be gone.
You get a pin so my audience can chew on that topic as well! I of course think traditional Zelda will eventually continue. Its just a small detour for now IMO
…why? Why would anyone assume that the Zelda series is forever changing just because they’re trying something different? This sounds like those people complaining about how Wind Waker was “for kids” or something. Imo, be grateful it’s not Pokémon, where they’ve made the same game experience for 20 years now.
Major overreaction.
@@Tustin2121 theres a big difference between something different and completely changing the series to the point where it isnt even the same genre anymore
Honestly, I doubt it's "dead". Nintendo has always shown that they listen to fan criticism when it comes to Zelda games:
Zelda II: Too open and divorced from what the first game did. So they made A Link to the past more linearly structured and top down perspective.
Wind Waker: Looks too childish, it needs more dungeons. So, they made Twilight Princess, more mature story and aesthetic, and they added a lot of dungeons.
Twilight Princess: Too close to the Ocarina gameplay and story structure. So, they made Skyward Sword and experimented with gameplay, furthermore the story structure is different as it tells the origins of many of the series' conventions.
Skyward Sword: Too much padding, too linear, and an overbearing companion. So they made Breath of The Wild, which is open world, gives freedom to choose where to go first and experiment with the world around you.
Breath of the Wild: Lackluster dungeons, disjointed story-telling, and weapon durability gets annoying. So, they made Tears of the Kingdom, which provides dungeons that are closer to the classic style, made a gameplay mechanic that allows almost any weapon to become useful, and the story is more consequential.
Unless the next 3D Zelda game is another sequel for the BOTW & TOTK duology, I think they're going to make a game taking into account recent criticism. Which right now from what I've seen and heard, is about lore, the story structure (again), and to please lean even more into the classic dungeon design.
