I just discovered your site about 2:30 this morning. Fell asleep around 5 yesterday as I am still recovering from a flu I got that’s lasted a month now and my awake and sleeping hours are all mixed up. Winter has come down on us quickly here in Hamilton Montana and it’s in the teens with barely warming until just before the sun decides to drift away. I am fascinated by your work. It’s opened up a whole new concept of quilting for me and also of needlework and embroidery. Love learning the stitches you use to secure and enhance these pieces of random fabric together. I’m excited to get started. Have a couple bins of scraps just wiggling to be used.🤣💕

I used to hand piece all my quilts, but now that I have seven grandchildren, I needed to start machine piecing. However this kind of slow stitching will give me the hand enormous that I miss so much. Thank you for taking me back to what I love.
My mother was born in 1913 and before she bought her Singer treadle machine she stitched her clothing by hand. This stitch is wonderful and I now use it. I'm very grateful for your videos which are full of good info for those who love needle and thread.💖

You are very inspiring. I do a lot of machine sewing just small items but I love fabric. Its very hard for me to decide on what fabric to use its overwhelming for me for some reason . Watching you sewing by hand has influenced me to try it an I just Love it because I'm like you I like the feel of fabric and this way let's me really love fabric more than ever . i love watching your videos..this segment reminds me of watchin my mom sew years ago. she made beautiful dresses this way. (they'd be called 'couture' nowadays). she did her seams this way

Jude,I have now been practicing hand sewing for a few months now.just sewing scraps onto foundation fabric and I have seen that there are different looks to the pieces on the right side of fabric,depending on which way one presses the seams.and when one presses open the seams it opens it up more.I know you use that little stitch to anchor the seams but I don't want to see an open look. and I am very divided on which way to press the seams .hope you understand what I mean. enjoying learning to sew by the way,don't like straight stitch.seems flimsy to me. prefer back stitch.
I have just found your site so you may have answered this a million times,but I have just started hand piecing my question is I am always loosing my scissors and if I need to go to the bathroom I loose my needle, no help is given by my little dog who sits beside me, how do you over come this, I have a tiny purse next to me and 7 times out 10 it will go back in but other times it ends up under my dog, I have tried ribbon but its never long enough

Video is handy for that. Over and over. Once it makes sense to you...you will remember.

Yes. Usually. Of course I have no hard and fast rules.
