You can update your S7 edge to Android 8 (Oreo) with the last security patch as of September 2020. Yes, a year old, but still way better than android 7 with 2017 security patch.
Enable Dev settings by going to about device and press build number about 7 times and go to Dev settings. Enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking, restart the phone and hold power and volume up or down. Press volume up to unlock bootloader.

@@RustamT I want to see if the default launcher is blocking the notifications or the system is not generating the notifications. Once you do that I can suggest you what else can we do
@@MobileTechPoint it started to work at some point but I keep getting a bug with camera. when I use telegram/whatsapp after some time it gives green screen and I have to restart the phone to use camera again. Another bug - I keep having shutter audio in the beginning of video footage recorded in all videos I record
