Howdy from Austin, Texas! I bought my Bonnie during the Pandemic lock downs in 2020. I've put over 15,000 miles on it since then. The bike kept me from going nuts with nothing to do, and provided endless hours of entertainment when the World turned upside down. It's the best bike I've ever owned hands down. Not a single problem mechanically. The original battery was a bit dodgy, but swapped that out. You are so right, they are super comfortable to ride. I usually can go up to 3 hours before I have to give the old tail end a bit of stand-up and rest. Great video!

Howdy Shane! I’m so pleased the channel is reaching as far as Texas, that’s really cool! 15,000 is serious mileage. I know Japanese bikes are known for their reliability but I think Triumph must be close behind from what I hear. Thanks for your comment, happy riding for another 15,000 miles 🤙🏻

@@surfingsteven1624 I recently bought a 2014 Yamaha YZ6R with very low miles on it (Simply because the deal was too GREAT to pass up) and it is a lot of fun to ride out on the twisties here in the Texas Hill Country. When I feel the NEED for Speed, I ride that one. However, the Bonnie is just a real pleasure to ride around town. Even though its HOT as Hades here right now, I usually jump on the Bonnie before taking a car. Happy riding to you too!

And one tiny notice: panniers will amazingly push your riding pleasure to the cosmic level! Backpack is sooo annoying, and , what is even more important - it gives such a bulky look to that technical masterpiece…

Great video Steven. Nice channel too :) I'm doing the full license at the moment (in Germany as it happens!) after dodging it for years. I've been thinking about either this (or a T120) and a Kawasaki Z900RS (or SE) simply because the latter is what my elder brother's friends were riding in the late 70's. By then the UK bike industry had well and truly shot themselves in both feet! However, every time I see and hear a T100 though, I'm sold. Triumph are really making fantastic bikes again... Mine is a 2002 Triumph America has 63k miles (101km), just traded for it a few days ago. It is a second bike for me. I've been riding for 52 years. My regular ride is a Harley softail (29k miles and also a cruiser). I can't do touring, but enjow rides of about 2 hours. I give my grandkids a ride once in a while, only if they wear a helmet.
I also was worried about the mileage on the Bonnie, but it runs great. Overall, seems to be a winner. I guess it was stored in a garage for several years and the owner rebuilt the engine. He didn’t pay attention to how it looks though. There were zinc bolts instead of chromed and rust on some of the brake and lever parts. The seat was all torn up, swing arm paint was terrible, and the chain guard was broke. I fixed the cosmetics, but was baffled by the fuel petcock and the gas puddle if you don't turn it off. This was something from the 70s (my first bike was a new 1972 Honda Scrambler). I don't mind the carbs, but they should have come up with an automatic valve. Maybe vacuum? The kickstand "ball" when up is terrible. I struggle with putting it down at the end of a ride. Brake fluid is clear, he must have flushed the lines although I'll probably put a new pads on both front and rear. The chain isn't new, but needed to be oiled. Tires are ok, maybe replace with white walls next time. This bike needs a LED headlamp.
At my age, it is getting harder to move the Harley around (big and heavy). I can do it, but I appreciate the lighter weight on the Triumph.

I went to the dealership yesterday and looked at a new 2022 T100 in this same colorway. They've taken down the finish level on them for sure. No brushed engine cases, no polished aluminum rims, no center stand, more basic on the paint line, no chrome exhaust, lost the rubber fork boots, and a now it has a plastic fender. I don't know what they're thinking other than making it cheaper, then upping the rev limiter and telling everyone it's now got 10 more horsepower and is "lighter". It's the same bike but with cheaper parts, or parts taken off. This one is a beautiful bike. I still might buy it mind you, but it would be nice to get the brushed engine cases, and polished rims at least. Too many bikes are getting all blacked out as if it's a style, and not a cost cutting method. We don't all want a T120 just to get the proper finishes and bigger pistons.

yes, it´s a beauty and these bonnevilles are just great. the only thing that always held me back of getting a t-100 or street twin - yes, i prefer the 900ccm to the 1200 - was those tyres. i found them being slippery in the turns and on tar snakes, and we have loads of twisty roads here. i would love to try one with michelin road classics or conti road attacks on them, but where? anyhow, i completely agree otherwise and loved your enthusiasm! triumph are really beautiful bikes with superb engines and build quality… these bikes are real gentlemen!

Tires are a personal preference, like grips or riding boots. Most people don't give the stuff much thought. Advanced riders understand these touch points on the bike, including the seats, can make drastic differences in the riding experience. Plenty of people are perfectly happy with the factory parts. I'm not one of them. 2nd gen Speed Twins come with Metzler Racetec RR K3's that have a dual compound construction. I bought a set of Continental Conti-motion sport touring tires to replace them when needed. That's what I'm comfortable with and feel confident in the consistent feedback those tires provide. I chose durability and long treadlife over all out performance.

Nice review Steven! And great bike, I have bought the exact same T100 including similar color. Stunning!
I was done with riding I thought, having had a heavy adventure bike, I somehow lost the fun of it. But a simple testride with one of these brought me such a big smile on my face. It is lightweight, sound incredible, no bells and whistles which can all brake down, simply enjoying the simplicity of the bike, life and enjoying the scenery, I knew I just had to get one!
The bike is amazing, so far I’ve only noticed some dampness behind the glass of the speedometer. This seems to be a typical problem on some of the bonnies. For the rest I’m missing a center stand for maintenance, but that can bought separately.
For the rest, great ergonomics! I’m 6ft3 with a large inseam (like 93cm, don’t know in inches) and the bike still fits amazing, even after a longer ride.
Even the fuel economy is excellent, 1 liter on 30km in average (only have ridden it on backroads so is even more with highways combined).
    Looking forward to more reviews,
    Greatings from the Netherlands,
    Gert

It's lovely........

Just got my 2021 T100. I get ya, I feel that I have found my forever bike. I had a CB1100EX and that was the forever bike until a got knocked off it. I also have a 2022 Interceptor 650. A T100 costs 1.5 times the RE650 and is 1.5 time better a bike. I am selling my RE650 as it has blown its gearbox (thankfully inside of the warranty).

My missus has a 2004 t100 Bonneville, which she has owned from new. The only issues she's had with it was a warped front disc, which was replaced with a floating disc, and a ignition coil that was starting to break down. The chrome is still good, as is the paintwork. The only downside with it, for me, is the fuel tank range. 120-140 miles range is really not enough, but my Street Scrambler 900 suffers from the same issue, although, the fuel economy on mine is better than her t100.

Hi Bob, thanks for your comment 👍🏻Interesting that your mileage range isn’t closer to 200 miles. When I fill up I get a read of around 220 miles on a full tank. Not sure how accurate that is though 🤔 If I ride like Miss Daisy it does surprisingly well but it’s very tempting to keep opening up the throttle!

Hello - Very nice bike and review.
Presumably the T100 would be ideal for me as I have not ridden a motorcycle for over 30 years but have passed my test back in the 80's
With a budget of say £3500 - £5000, would that be enough to secure a good used Bonneville.

Hi and thanks for watching 🤙🏻 glad you enjoyed it. Welcome back to biking! I would say if you shop around you should be able to find a Bonnie you like within budget. If you aim for post 2009, you should get one with fuel injection. If you’re looking for something towards the lower end of your budget, be sure to check out the Kawasaki W800 and the Royal Enfields 👍🏻 let me know what you decide to get!

Hello - Thank you for the reply and advice. Would it matter if I went for the carburettor version if the opportunity arose?
I guess fuel injection is a cleaner solution.
Have always liked bikes but since passing my car driving test I've not been on a motorcycle since:
I must be one of many of those 50 plus years or older who wants to come to bikes after a long time of no riding.
The state of the roads and standards of driving these days is of somewhat concern.
I have seen a couple of very good condition Bonneville's on a well known auction web site that look great with exceptional low mileage! Just need to be sure the mileage shown is genuine.
I recently visited my local Triumph Motorcycle dealership and was overwhelm by what i saw. ( A tad intimidating 🙂
Buying new is possible, but might be best to purchase used at this moment in time.

I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam and I have a 2017 T120. I've not messed with the handlebars but I found that the Burton DS014-T120 seat really improved the rider triangle for me. The Burton seat is probably two inches higher than the stock seat and it gave me a little more leg room.

Something I have noticed - barely any of the new liquid cooled T100s have gone above even 10k miles. Used prices are sat at about £6k at the lowest - meanwhile you can get a used T120 with 20k miles for £6k instead! Tbh if the engines in these bikes are going to struggle at 30k miles then something is seriously wrong with them, they are pretty under-stressed. The rest like electrics etc I'd expect to have more issues with age than mileage really.

    • @surfingsteven1624
      @surfingsteven1624  5 місяців тому

I’m not sure if the majority of bikers cover that many miles on their bikes so the mileage tends to stay on the low side even by the time the bikes are 8 years old. I went for a higher mileage bike because they appeared to be a lot more affordable. However as you say, 30k miles isn’t really a lot at all in modern engine terms but there is a stigma attached to bikes being classed as high mileage when they creep over that 20 or 30k point. 🤷🏼‍♂️. Thanks for commenting 👍🏻

With modern build. Why should 30,000 miles be high mileage? If you had a 6 year old car with 30 000 miles it'd be low mileage. Bikes also tend to be pampered. Would the bike look like that if used all year? We've been fobbed off with poor quality bikes forever.

There is an incredible difference in used vehicles’ pricing between the UK and Italy. A 30k (miles)/ 50k (kilometers) T100 would still sell for at least 6000 euros down here. And of course would not be worth it. I said vehicles because used cars are the same.

@@superleggenda I wonder how easy it would be to buy a used bike outside of Italy that’s less expensive and ride it back? 😆. Here in the UK we have quite a wide choice of bikes available but some models aren’t available here such as the Honda Trail / CT125. Honda decided they would see the Monkey and Dax instead but I would prefer the CT. I could only buy an imported one but then the cost goes up 🤔

    • @superleggenda
      @superleggenda Рік тому +1

@@surfingsteven1624 a lot of car resellers use that business model, because it can be justified by a car’s higher price. Say I wanted to import a Bonneville. The bike is available in Italy but I’d have to pay for homologation, for license plates, VAT AND customs (only if buying from outside the EU, which now includes the UK). Then there’s the issue of MOT. First inspection is after four years, then every two. For imported vehicles, the first four years are down to two. Ultimately not worth it for a bike, probably not even from another EU country.

What's all this high mileage crap? 30k isn't high mileage, IF it's been well looked after. These are low tech bikes with lightly stressed engines. Compared to engines of 40+ years ago, modern units run tighter tolerances, use better materials and filtration and lubrication has evolved to match. Suspension is more likely to require attention before the engine. My ZZR1400 has done just over 38k miles and runs as sweet as the day I bought it. You can buy a bike with 10k on the clock, that's been neglected/abused and it will be problematic money pit.

Hi Mike, that’s right, compared to some motorcycles out there for sure which is what I mentioned during the video. It’s just not very common to see a used Bonneville for sale with this mileage as most used Bonnies for sale have just 5k or 10k miles at the most. Even when they are over 10 years old. It just seems to me that by T100 standards, this bike at 6 years old is relatively high mileage. That’s just my view. All opinions are welcome 👍🏻
