Man, your Raptor is punching above its weight when it comes racing mod for mod. You're on stock bore and bottom end and you're beating or keeping up with quads much more modded than yours. If you beat your buddy's big bore, built top and bottom end, etc Honda 450 easily, then that means a lot these other quads are probably bigger bore and stroked on race fuel and your pulling on 98% of them or right there with them. I've always been impressed with the Raptors but this is another level. Can't wait for you to mod it some more when you're ready.
I know that right now it wouldn't be very good since you don't know the machine as well as your raptor, but I would love to see a comparison video of the raptor and the yfz
Hey Pete what breakin process did you do on your raptor. I just bought a 2020 raptor 700R I want to know how serious to take the 20 hour break in process I’ve heard mixed opinions about whether or not to follow it. Some say drive it like you stole it from day one and some say ease on to it? I would love to know what you did???
I had the exact same responses when I was asking around lol. I chose to go more in the middle. I ran lower RPM's didn't hold it wide open until probably 6-7 hours of run time. Eventually I met up with a friend to ride and I couldn't not keep up.. I rode it however I wanted after that 😆.. For my 450 I did 3, 15 minute heat cycles letting the quad cool down completely in between each cycle. My engine builder said he does that for pretty much every type of machine they rebuild. The heating and cooling is important to help all the seals and gaskets set. After the 3rd cycle I rode the YFZ like I stole it and haven't had any issues. The other consistent thing I hear is to not hold the throttle in one position. Be sure to vary it through the RPM's while doing the cycles or long break in depending on which route you choose! Hope this helps and congrats on your new 2020 Raptor!! 😬😎👍
And Pete, you sure are making me think about trading in my Modified 19' Raptor for a YXZ with all your fawning over your latest quad. I HOPE you'll do Suspension, A-Arm and Axle mods on your Raptor so we All can get an honest comparison of both machines. Thx and keep up the great work ✌
I hope you answer. I have a raptor 350. Im looking at upgrading in the spring when my sklls get a bit better. I used to ride in the 80s but been away until recently. I read so much bad info on picking up a yfz450 as my next quad. Lots of unreliability stories. But I hear the same on the 450 r from Honda and Suzuki. I probably will not be buying new but would you recommend a good sport quat for a 50 year old that likes more trails/woods trails than wide open like you are running. Not sure I want the 700 raptor.
