Hi Lee. I love your videos. I find you to be very helpful b/c despite what ever equipment one may have…you promote the idea of actually practicing through trial and error and take responsibility for the quality of your work. I Rarely comment but wanted you to know I appreciate your knowledge, how you make it so accessible for people like me. I am in the Bahamas and have taken some of the best photos in my 18 months since I started this lifelong hobby. What I greatly appreciate about you is how you cut straight through the BS and get it the core of what’s important.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and continued guidance so people like me can continue on our collective journeys!

Glen, comments like these make all the hard work of doing a weekly video worth it! I am so thankful you see the EXACT point of why I teach, how I teach, and what I hope to accomplish with my videos. Thank you for commenting, I don't take these compliments lightly!

Mastering our systems - both cameras and lenses, is BIG deal! Especially when switching to OM Systems from another brand. Your Mentorship program sounds like the best solution to become very competent with our cameras! And producing fantastic photos!

Love your attitude Lee. Adversity only makes us stronger and builds character. I'm glad you take the setbacks the way you do, not dwelling on them or whining, as many do. I always look forward to your info releases on the OM1 Mk2 as I just bought one and am relying on you to help me master this mini Cray super computer masquerading as a camera.

Lee, what you cover in your video is soooooo true, since I’ve spent time mastering my camera and going through my initial steps when I take the camera out. Checking all of the above. I’ve also made many of the mistakes you cover in this video. Taken me a while to learn the Olympus OM1 which has been mostly down to your videos at least 85% keep up the amazing work!!

My biggest problem is mastering my system. I simply agree.
That is why i look at your videos. I always seem to change something in the system and forget what I changed. I know I could prevent a lot of faults by using C1-4. But what will be my best choises there is what I struggle to find out. And that is what I have to work with. I'm mostly landscape photographer and street photographer. So far not long tele photographer. It will come later but not now.
So configuring C1-C4 is where I have to sit down and struggle.
Great video. It makes my confidence way better.

Lee, love your approach, philosophy and photography, and I agree wholeheartedly with this analysis. I’m sure it won’t surprise you to know that Petr Bambousek shares your views, and suggests “drills” to test both understanding and proficiency, but of course the only real test is in the field, and even then all the technique is still only a means to the artistic end.
Alas I can’t afford your mentorship program (NOT a subtle plea) but I’d certainly be doing it if I could, and I think your time and knowledge are well worth the cost, so I’m very grateful for the free material you provide here as well. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about all of your troubles Lee. I hope things start looking up again soon. As I said in a previous comment, I hear your voice in my head quite often, especially recently when I couldn't figure out why I couldn't focus on subjects (close but not that close). When I got back home, I found the distance limiter on my lens had been switched on. Duh. Mistakes are how we learn!

I have been taking pictures for over 50 years, I agree with most of what you’re saying, Being a user of Olympus/OM system cameras it would be nice to see at least 2.5 or 4 megapixels bump in resolution over the current 20 megapixels that has been used for a long while to somewhat keep up with competition, I know megapixels is not everything but it’s good for advertising and it shows that the company is moving forward in technology.

    • @leehoyphotography
      @leehoyphotography  6 місяців тому +1

If someone needs that in the marketing to understand how great OM System is or believe they are "keeping up" with the competition, then they are ignoring that we are WAY ahead of the competition in TONS of areas! ;) If 2.5 more mexapixels makes a difference in your photography, then your fieldcraft is probably weak. Just sayin'

Your clip is so so true Lee 👌👏. Shame you are not in London UK. Would be great to go on photo walk or trip with you. I tend to always shoot Manual mode and use MF as much as AF. Recently started trying more wildlife video particularly slow motion (not S&Q) which is a steep learning curve. In the end the most important factor is getting out 📷🎥 enjoying yourself and having fun 😊

Several years ago I attended a workshop in Wyoming run by Jay Dickman, an Olympus Ambassador. One of my fellow students, a very nice and pretty lady about my age, had a Sony camera that probably cost about twice what our gear did, yet to my amazement at one point I found myself explaining the essentials of the Exposure Triangle to her. It sure doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to spend thousands of dollars on equipment if you’re just going to point and shoot, which will actually yield better results (and certainly more easily) if you just do it with a phone.
I get it: few enjoy reading manuals, myself included. But the whole point of spending all that money is to give you options - options that you still won’t have if you don’t know what they are!

  • @anthony-qm3pn

Pixel density of the OM-1 roughly Close in pixel density to a 61 megapixel sensor thing that it m4/3 sensor, i’m not sure how much smaller they can take the pixels without losing image quality, but I’d be quite happy if the only added no more than an extra 3 million pixels of resolution, with an all new image processor that it takes to secure the future of OM systems as a company for marketing purposes, 35 years ago, I was using Kodachrome 25 & 64 ISO film for landscapes and wildlife photography with my OM-2 & OM-4, we’re so spoiled these days with the capabilities of modern digital cameras.
