    One VERY HOT , humid day. Working. On a break. A very big green dragon fly landed on my nose. Lol. I tried to get it to go away. It just sat. I was able to stroke it with my finger. I guess it was just too dang hot to fly. Very hot air is thin and, I guess thin air means some bugs can't fly. I got it to get on my finger. Walked to a shady spot and put it on a post.

    I appreciate this video. It is extremely helpful. I'm curious about your aperture settings for landscape photos. Is lens diffraction really the issue that the UA-cam lens reviewers say it is?

    What do you think will be best for capturing an aurora: 8mm FE or the 7-14mm f2.8? Considering which is the more versatile lens, aurora being the main use, secondary use which lens is more useful for landscape? The widest I have is 12-40mm f2.8 which is often not wide enough for aurora

    Really grappling with this decision lately. I’m a Nikon shooter and have been happy with the gear. I was looking to upgrade from a D500 into the mirrorless world of a Z8 or Z9 but then I learned more about OM System and as a wildlife and landscape shooter, I’m really besotted with the idea of making the switch… the features and benefits just seem to be tailor-made for how and what I shoot. Really considering moving to the OM-1 mk ii + 300mm f4 Pro lens. 🤩

      @@chrisahern21 FWIW, I switched fro Nikon APS-C/FF probably 10 years ago. Very happy I made the switch! Now at 62, the lighter weight is a blessing and longer reach at a more competitive price has opened wildlife photography to me. Yes, low light can be an issue but denoising software has come a long way making lower contrast images at ISO 3200 doable in the right conditions. No regrets…

    Outstanding images Lee. I found the format extremely valuable. Sharing the setup, composition and "patience" aspect helps us all go beyond just snapping images and moving on. Loved the image of the two wolves resting, the bison walking across the scene that tells a story of the habitat and the one in Grand Teton that shoes the different layers. That last image of the backlit bird was stunning. Happy New year.

    Hy Lee, i just buyed om1 mkii and 150-600. I'm very sad. All my photo shot of birds with autofocus was very unsharp at 100% on my monitor screen. Only when i shot with manual focus the picture is ok. But use manual focus with birds in movement its impossible for me. Can you give me an advice? I have a fault lens or its something else? Thanks on advance and grretins from italy

    i never used m4/3 cameras but i do think there is a market for it Having said that i also feel very strong about them being over priced and that it is the biggest issue of m4/3 cameras. I think if the price would drop to what is more realistic these cameras would sell much better. for example this OM 1 Mark II for the same price one can buy a full frame camera (mind you i say full frame not even mention APSC) m4//3 sensors are way smaller than APSC and full frame and a fact is that the smaller the sensor the cheaper to produce with the smaller sensors and less pixels you need less internal memory which again would make the camera cheaper with less pixels comes less data to move internally which than needs slower internals (CPU etc.) which again would make the camera cheaper But like i already mention for the price of an OM 1 Mark II one can buy a full frame camera. An other thing is from the camera body weight difference is not really less than a APSC or even some full frame cameras For example from would i found the OM 1 Mark II weighs 599 gram the Fuji XH2 weighs 660 gram and when we look at full frame the Sony A7C II weighs only 514 gram I feel most for most people who chose m4/3 the weight and size factor is a major reason to buy But these days when price is the same and weight is the same what would be a reason to still go for M4/3 ? As mentioned before if the price would be more realistic and maybe just below the price of a Sony A6700 or Fuji XS20 probably they would sell much better. I dont know about prices in other countries but where i live the OM1 Mark II is roughly double the price of a Sony A6700 or Fuji XS20 and even the full frame Sony A7C II is only 2/3 of the price of the OM 1 Mark II

      Probably one of the least informed, most absurd, and poorly contemplated comments ever on my channel. Saying 4/3's is overpriced immediatley demonstrates your ignorance of the features on OM cameras. How do you say you have never used something and then have a comment about it like this. You have been listening to too many FB gurus (you are probably one) who comment a lot but your portfolio probably reflects it. The full frame cameras that are the same price as an OM Mark II are horrible. Even the Canon R5 that costs a LOT more sucks compared. Come on man, when you don't know anything about something, a four paragraph comment probably makes you look ridiculous.

      @@leehoyphotography firstly i like to say that i don`t understand that a Japanese (known for their politeness) company lets some one rude like you being their ambassador. You say i`m poorly informed but to me it seams you don't know anything about the hardware of your camera. All things mentioned by me are fact and you can not proof me wrong. It is true smaller sensors are cheaper than larger sensors it is true less pixel means less data means need of less processing power and less ram. It is true your om 1 mark II weighs more than a Sony A7C II which is full frame. Than the next thing you tell me i`m ignorant of the features of OM cameras. Man don`t just uhm uhm duh duh what kind of features does your OM camera have that other cameras don't have ? You just make a muh point here muh point in like a cows opinion it doesn't matter. I feel the anger in your reply again a reason why i don't understand OM systems wants you to be ambassador well maybe they have lack of choice and they take who ever they can get. And by the way what kind of brand ambassador isn't able to talk about tech details oh wait i guess its you. Yes i said i never used OM or Olympus or any M4/3 camera but that's not the point the point is the hardware inside your camera small sensor less pixel is less processing power and less ram which by right should make a camera cheaper but they charge a price similar to full frame which makes them over priced. Instead of trying to ridicule me you should proof me wrong that is what a good ambassador would do but instead you uhm duh you don't know the features my camera has and than don't even mention any features that your camera has and others have not You mention the full frame cameras that are similar priced with the OM1 Mark II are horrible that statement alone says that you have no clue what you talk about Sony A7C II better IBIS than yours Better auto focus than yours better in low light than yours more pixel than yours if important for you less weight than yours And the same ii can say for the Sony A6700 same i can say for the Nikon Z6 III and where i live they are all cheaper than yours So next time be a good guy and don't try to ridicule people for their opinion because you are wrong and you know it and that's why all the anger And in case OM systems is reading this come on really ???? This is your ambassador ? sorry but shame on you OM Systems

    Lee, Thank you for another inspirational video; you have inspired me to develop my skills and particularly field craft this year, and when I head out with the OM1 ii and 150-400 I always have the "visually compelling immage" mantra in mind. I am in the UK and going on your workshops is unlikely to happen, but I gain so much from your videos, so thank you.

      I love hearing how some of my catchphrases reside in the minds of nature photographers! Makes me know I am making a difference! Thanks for watching and commenting! I am going to do an OM System Only in Workshop if not in 2025, in 2026! I have too many fans there to not do it!

    Thanks for a masterclass. These photos are so beautiful and inspiring. I started 2024 with an OM 1 ii. I allowed myself to become distracted by “better image quality” out of a different camera system (Jennifer Leigh Warner’s Z9). My switching was a poor decision. I didn’t shoot nearly as much because the 35mm gear was just a hassle. Failure is nothing more than the opportunity to start over with a better education. I’m in the process of switching back to the OM 1 ii. I’m also deleting a bunch of YT channels and other negative influences in my life that insist MFT is less capable than other choices. With this video, you have clearly demonstrated that isn’t the case. I’m determined to master this gear this time around. Happy New Year.

      If you compared image quality by looking at the back of a camera, then it was a silly comparison! ;) I would guarantee that most of the jackasses saying 4/3's isn't good have NEVER shot one and don't know how to do so! ;) Welcome back, just think for the money you will lose, you could have done an OM System ONly workshop with me!!!! ;) Hahahaha, glad you enjoy my channel, watch it, learn, shoot, and show how wrong they were! ;) Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I spent many years on the road both expediting, doing service work all over the USA, and singing semi-professionally. I was either in a motel room, or the back of a Silver Eagle most of my life. I can't remember how much stuff I have had to replace from leaving it in a motel room, or losing it out on the road. These tips are what I came up with too. Great advice Lee.

    I know you recommend total manual for birds in flight. I have always used Auto-ISO. I'm curious how you deal with lighting changes as a bird is in flight and the light changes constantly. As the bird moves in front of trees, buildings or land which typically makes for a better shot then a plain blue sky, the action is too fast and variable to be changing ISO on the fly for the light changes that happen. P.S. I wish OM Systems would provide an option to expose for the subject detected rather than the scene.

    • @leehoyphotography
      @leehoyphotography 18 днів тому

      Yes, Auto ISO was created by Satan to screw up almost all of your exposures! So, a will do a video on this at some point. But keep this in mind, what isn't important is does the tonality of the background change, what is important is the light on the subject constant. If so, the exposure remains the same regardless of the tonality of the background. Auto ISO will react to changes in the background tonality and screw up your exposure (and I am considering a proper exposure as exposing to the right. OM provides an option for exposing for the subject rather than the scene. It is what I use ONLY for exposure and it is the live highlight alerts. Exposure has never been easier in manual mode with OM System than any other camera. Even Sony only has the zebra pattern which can be hard to see on small subjects. There is so much more but too much for a UA-cam comment reponse!
