Why does this not apply to Mike Trout? He has that elbow bent at the point of contact on almost all of his swings. Watch all of the slow motion videos of his swing. On the few swings that he does get a little more extension, it's after the point of contact.

Great question! Like we said in the video, at impact (most of the time) the back elbow will be bent and then it straightens out after impact.... but this is happening so fast that we wan't to be releasing it ASAP. As far as Mike Trout goes... I'm not sure if he has a physical limitation that doesn't allow his back arm to straighten, or if that's just how he swings... The facts are that he is plenty strong enough to compensate and still hit the ball hard... but if we are going to max out speed, then the arms need to release, just like a throw. So technically, he could swing faster releasing his arms, but the fact is that he doesn't need to.... If you're strong and fast enough, you can get away with some stuff :P Hope this answers your question! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

@@ProSpeedBaseball Thanks for the feedback. I was curious about your take on his swing as it seems to be very unique to him. I haven't found anyone else that swings the way he does and he is the best at it. It's almost like he's "muscling it out" of the park with that swing. If you compare his swing to someone like Josh Donaldson, Cody Bellinger, or even Trevor Story, there's a YUGE difference. Those guys all get full extension almost at the point of contact and hit way out in front. Trout likes to let that ball get deep on him before he destroys it and most of the time, his arms never straighten out. They just wrap around his body.

That's a very good eye... Trout is unique that he does let the ball get deeper than ideal impact (which the other hitters you mentioned were very good at) yet, even with arms not fully releasing, Trout still releases the bat and contacts the ball in front of the hands relative to pitch location. So his base mechanics are actually identical, just not as complete as they could be. But again, he's strong and fast enough to get away with it :) ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
