The poor girl was just trying to protect her sister. She didn't know any better. Kids who are convicted in the US, are sent to prison for good reason.

the title is fake. first of all, she was not held against her will, let a lone for 20 years -_- "the truth turned out to be far more terrifying" and where is exactly is that? watched this entire thing nothing terrifying about this movie, no monsters or killers etc. this is 100% a drama. no thrills, no laughs, no adventure no sci fi and especially no horror etc.

So Ruth is supposed to be around 40 at present and her sister is 25. I might have missed the recap giving Ruth's age, but it was driving me crazy. So at the time of the incident Ruth was about 20 and sister 5.
This was such a stupid, stupid plot. 1. She was a baby so she would’ve not served time 2. Bullock could’ve done more positive things for her and her sister bc it doesn’t negate the memories her sister has. Imagine knowing ur older sister spent 20yrs in prison for u
she shot a police officer and it definitely didn't seem like self defence. The little sister would definitely spend her whole childhood and teenage years locked up in some facility for juveniles. Bullock took the crime on herself so her sister could grow up in normal family.

Sandra bullock really needs to get over herself, she is 58 years old and the young woman in the movie should have played her DAUGHTER, not Sandra’s LITTLE SISTER! Its literally pretty much impossible for them to have both been so young 20 years ago, especially Sandra! Lol

@@ozymandiasultor9480 from what i found online it varies by state but some don't have an official minimal age for seriouse crimes such as homicide.
the kid would of grown up differently with that trauma. the older sister saved her from growing up like that.
