    Ham radio repair is like watch tinkering. Science, Art, and Engineering all in one beautiful package.

    A couple of soldering tips, save you old solder wick roll container. Great to put a little bit of solder in to keep in a soldering go kit so you don't have to carry a 1lb role. They also work great to keep a little 26 AWG or 24 AWG mag wire for path or jumper repair. Also I find an acid brush works better than a Q-tip for cleaning the flux off the board. Thanks for the videos! 73

    That's awesome, the recycle it mentality, it saves the landfills from another big piece of plastic which eventually ends up in our drinking water, honest days work, great entertainment and make a few bucks, "i like it" great Work, tnx Man!

    Most of those digital encoders are all very similar. Same types of encoders are used on the QMXX series of radios. Thanks for the videos! 73

    TO, I want to say "THANK YOU" for this video. I thoroughly enjoy an GOOD in depth video, especially one about a radio repair. I was hoping there in the middle that we were going to get to see the new POT installation and WOW you didn't disappoint. And the solder work was impressive. I have got to try one of those PEN-CIL soldering irons. It's good to see a good old fashioned "Let's fix an older radio" video. I really did enjoy this journey. Thank You again and 73!!

    That radio is ideal for packet. I ran one for a few years with a Kantronics KPC3 Plus. The nice part is that the TNC ran completely in the data connector on the back so I could leave the mic plugged in if I wanted to use it for voice.
    It must be a thing for these radios to lose their tuning knobs because mine was an odd knob. I found the proper replacement on line.

    the knob looks correct for one that has lost the rubber outer ring that sometimes can come adrift from the hard plastic portion that you have. ie: the knob is a 2 part construction, the outer layer being of similar material to what the other knob provides.

    Watched while working on my own electronics project (wires for a Shelly 1 to control a garage door - goal is no cloud smart home)
    Somewhat encouraged to maybe crack open a 25+ year old Icom mobile I have that (so I was told) the finals are faulty on 70cm...though I really don't use 70cm or for that matter, VHF aside from the weekly 2m net.
    Of course what I really should be doing since I'm using my remaining vacation days of the year is completing items on the honey-do list, not playing with radios or home-assistant stuff.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  10 днів тому +1

    Keep the radio and use it for packet.
    I was comparing the microphone pin-outs between the FT2600m and my FT2800m, and mic and gnd pins are the only ones in common.

      I might just do that... Ham radios standards are bad enough, let alone one company that has many different standards on its own...that all use the same connector.

    pro-tip TO - "Acid brushes" off of Amazon. I use them instead of the q-tip method for cleaning electronics, no fuzz, and you can way more aggressively brush the goo off. - JP

    • @ATR_Mid-TN-WX
      @ATR_Mid-TN-WX 9 днів тому

      @ so your saying the mic in the microphone might be bad? That’s makes sense. I can hear audio coming into the radio just can’t get any out.
      It’s an old galaxy cb radio. One of the 11m/10m radios. There was a noise box wires into it. I took that out because I’m pass that kinda is cb radio. I still use cb but not into causing nonsense

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  9 днів тому

      @ATR_Mid-TN-WX the mic is a good place to start. Now that your mentioning the mod, something might have gotten clipped in the addition or removal of that mod that needs to be restored...so next up would be to look up instructions for that mod and look for something that needed to be clipped and in-clip it.

    151 and 157 Mhz are the MURS channels. There is 5 CH and limit to 2 watts max. Also the VHF marine channels are in the range of that radio. Just not type excepted to TX on them. OK for RX . Some local EMS are VHF . Some police as well. Lots to listen to. Just do not TX unless TRUE emergency outside HAM bands . You can RX NOAA weather . I think you can program no TX on them. Now you got a radio for a TNC. Just 2 on same band and you can talk to your self on packet radio. 1 step at a time. Need all parts for 2 TNC . I never had that problem with Mouser . But I never up loaded a order that way either. Watch out for dropping coax onto Astron power supply.I just fixed a 35 amp one. The PL259 contacted the 2N3771 transistor. It arced and damaged supply. More than blown fuse. bridge rectifier shorted . Printables has 3D printed covers . get Chuck of JEEM to print you some. 73

    I have had a few radios that came into my ownership that had been modified to transmit outside the ham bands. I have no use for this. I reversed the mod on my Yaesu FT450 as it was too easy to go out of band. If I was selling this radio I would reverse the mod so it was ham band only.
