Thank you ladies, really enjoyed listening to this! As a sole trading interior stylist and designer, I have been working in the field for almost 5 years, providing interior design on an accessible and affordable level. That said, I do however find that there has been a huge increase in influencers providing competitively priced online services that are often sub-standard as you discuss. As a result it is often completely misunderstood by people just how much work is involved in the background getting the scheme, layout, functionality, flow, etc right.. it's not just cushion choosing! I admit I started receiving work requests whilst completing an interior design diploma with KLC and as such am still trying to complete the diploma!! But I know I have learnt so much 'on the job' and my previous business experience has definitely stood me in good stead in terms of running my own business. Anyway thanks again for your inspiring chat, look forward to hearing more!
Hi Keira, lovely to hear from a fellow NI Designer! I'd love to have NI Interior Designers on the podcast: maybe you'll make a cameo appearance?! :) Totally understand how difficult it is to study whilst working - it's a tough balancing act. Yep, Influencers deciding to become Interior Designers literally overnight caused a bit of a headache for the industry but I think it's time for Interior Designers to reclaim their position! As I mentioned, I'd love to see Interior Designers becoming more visible online and in a strategic way so that they're offering value but also benefiting their business/brand. More podcasts relating to this one, coming soon! If you have any suggestions for possible topics please let me know!
Thoroughly enjoyed this discussion. I’m currently doing an interior design diploma, just did not feel okay providing a service based only on having an eye for design, there’s so much more to it.
