- Health officials are alarmed at the growing number of parents who are opting not to vaccinate their children, saying there is a risk that rare diseases could return. Parents like Dotty Hagmier, however, worry the risk of side effects from vaccines is greater than the benefit of taking it. Bill Whitaker reports.

Un-vaccinated kids cannot spread a disease they don't have, and these antiquated diseases would have been extinct by now if they weren't incubated in human bodies and shed to everyone around them. Anti-vaxx parents were once pro-vaxx parents, and the reasons they changed their minds are heartbreaking.
A lot of parents that are anti-vaccine were never pro vaxed parents they didn't have a choice. a lot of us did not Have a choice. especially if we were on medicare/ Medical and the state paid to have our baby. If we were not in a certain religious group or organization we could not opt against not having the vaccinations for our children.

The anti vaccine minority are still being protected by the educated majority (ie herd immunity) but there are a growing number of children who aren’t being vaccinated and if that number continues to grow then herd immunity will cease to exist and unvaccinated will start spreading illnesses that are preventable.

Thankfully people are finally becoming aware of all the risks associated with vaccines. Many times vaccines aren't effective either, so why take that risk on non-deadly common childhood illnesses. Hannah Schaffer the reason people still get vaccinated for those diseases, is to lower the chances of them coming back. Just like with everything else, vaccines are not 100%, yes vaccines have risks to them, but so does not vaccinating your kids, and literally everything in the world.

Herd immunity has NEVER been tested on vaccines. It was introduced by a doctor named A.W. Heidrich and applied only to MEASLES (the actual illness). Vaccinologists decided to take the credit for this and use it in their marketing.

I'm extremely saddened by this comment section. Vaccines ARE necessary for developing children. Vaccinations provide support for building a strong immune system capable of fighting off otherwise fatal illnesses. While I agree that eating a nutritional diet is beneficial for a child, it won't stop them from getting polio. The common concern brought upon by vaccines is the false notion that they can cause autism. While the rate has increased in the past 20 years, it has nothing to do with vaccines. I would like to thank all parents who give their children the fundamental building blocks to live a long, healthy life. To those who don't, I respect your decision even if it does not coincide with my views or reasonings. Where are those kids, then? In today’s day and age where are those kids? Why are there currently big hospitals specifically dedicated to children who have major diseases or illnesses or viruses etc., some, if not most of which were in fact vaccinated? What about viral shedding? What about vaccination shedding? What about the children and adults who still get the flu or other diseases even though they’ve been vaccinated for it? If a medical treatment of any kind has a known side effect of death, then it should never be mandated and mandated does not mean it’s an established law.

That's why I don't feed my kids. It's dangerous. Now plenty of people will point out that food supposedly "prevents starvation," and that might be true, but it's not fair to completely ignore all the dangers food poses, like choking, allergies, gingivitis, and garlic breath. I'm just saying, do your own research and decide what you think is best for your kids. If you choose to give your kids potentially deadly food, that's your problem, but as a parent, I don't think the government has any right to tell me that I need to feed my kids.

I’m vaccinated and there is nothing wrong with me and there never has been. I’m 28 and have always been vaccinated. So has my brother and there is nothing wrong with him either. I’ve worked with hundreds of children in day care settings etc who have all been vaccinated and have never known one child to be harmed by a vaccine. Every single adult I know was also vaccinated as a child and none of them have ever had a “vaccine injury” or nothing more serious than a rash that goes away within a few hours. I’m sorry if you or your child has autism or has any kind of sickness or disability but I’m telling you, it has nothing to do with their vaccinations and if by CHANCE their autism or other sickness or disability started after being vaccinated then that is purely coincidence. My cousin is autistic, up until the age of 2 she was unvaccinated and it was right around the age of a year and a half that she very quickly started showing signs of autism (she changed completely within the space of about 3/4 days) she was still unvaccinated at this point. She received her first vaccination at the age of three years and has been vaccinated ever since and it has not done her any harm just as it has not done anybody else any harm.
There are worse issues than can occur other than autism though. You don’t know how it affects you long term. So many of us younger women have fertility issues and other chronic conditions that our grandparents generation had never heard of.

Once upon a time not so long ago the world lost 50-100 million people because of the Spanish flu, I went to school with 3 kids who wore callipers due to polio and babies died from measles, hands up people who want to to back in time, seriously people get your heads out of your arses 🙁

I got measels as a child. As a complication of measles I got meningitis. As a complication of meningitis I'm partially deaf and have memory problems. If I'd been inoculated against measles I would of retained my hearing and my memory. My mum has to live with the guilt of making the choice not to have me inoculated.

Another problem with not inoculating your children is, you can put other more vulnerable children at risk. Children who have Immune deficiencies. Children with cancer and other conditions can't be immunized until they are fully recovered.

My uncle was a healthy baby in 1960s untill he got his polio vaccine. His life was screwed forever, he worked at a plant and never got married. Thankfully the government granted him a nice apartment. That was in Soviet Union. Yes, people with special needs were getting free housing from the Soviet Union gov. I doubt it is the case here in "free" capitalist world.
