If you use Logic's Arrangement tool to specify Intro, Verse, Bridge, Chorus, Outtro etc.... and then add a drummer track, it will preload variations for each of those sections. Great timesaver to get started without having to coax anything at all in those parts.
loving this series, you really are helping to reveal many of the features I was unaware of. One thing that you didn't seem to touch on (yet maybe?), which I find to be one of the most powerful parts of drummer, is when it is used with an arrangement, automatically creating different parts for your songs
Thanks - great tutorial. Just one small thing worth knowing: If you convert a drummer region to midi, and do edits, those edits will be lost if you convert back to drummer region. Not sure if Logic will issue a warning - I guess it will.
If you ever use a recent Garageband app, drummer is prominent in the "songwriter" option under "new." It's lmited but useful occasionally. When I get to LPX I usually have a drum rack outline that I have built off the "drummer" track. Not sliced bread but, for breakfast, makes pretty good dry toast.
Hi there- First of all, thanks for the outstanding videos - I have learned so much from you and am enjoying Logic even more. I have a bit of a strange problem - wondering if you can shed some light on it or if you’ve seen this before. I haven’t read all the comments so forgive me if this has been previously discussed. I have a track that is populated with drummer regions. I could not be happier with it - truly amazing to be able to fine tune each region to match the song in so many ways. Yet I must have done something that is preventing the editor from working or displaying the currently selected drummer region. Instead of the normal editor, I get a blank panel that says to choose a region even though a region is selected. There is a button to create a region under this message but it’s so strange…if I want to make an adjustment to a region now - I can’t! Thankfully everything is pretty dialed in, but I did want to change a fill setting and could not. I can only think of one thing I did - I opened up all the tracks (it’s a producer kit) and made some adjustments to a few levels and some of the channel strip settings. That’s it! I’m wondering if the editor stops working once you deviate from the default settings? Any ideas? Thanks for listening and all your help! Cheers!
LP Drummer is easy and sounds great if you'll accept whatever it gives you. But if you try to alter a beat in just one spot it usually screws up somewhere else. So you have to lock in your changes bar by bar or even beat by beat - too time consuming. Switching to midi you have to become a midi wizard - also too time consuming and ruins your creative mood and flow. To find one simple beat in your mind you may have to "audition" dozens of "drummers" and settings. For the simplest least creative task it's better than a click track, but a keyboard or keypad is a better way to tap in beats. Unless of course you're an actual musician and you work with other real musicians and in that case you collaborate with a real drummer which is how all worthwhile music is made.
No Jazz, no Country. Drummer was amazing when it came out, but I really can't believe Apple hasn't at least developed DLC for more styles by now. I'd pay, if it were reasonable.
Yea I’ve always wondered that too. It’s an unrivalled tool but is really limited in scope regarding genres. I too would pay a lot to buy more drummers. That said, when you make the drummer follow your other instruments you can tame it to the style you want
Country is much more aligned with pop rhythms and, generally, drums aren’t as forward in country arrangements. So it’s fairly manageable in Drummer without designated Country drummers. Jazz, Latin, Swing, Fusion, Afro-Cuban, Blues, etc. are genres that are apparently less in demand by the majority of Logic users. Addictive Drums 2 has jazz, brush, stick, and mallet kits that can be played by Logic’s drummers. It’s a little time-consuming but not difficult to set up and the samples are excellent. They also sell MIDI-packs of jazz, Latin, Afro, Reggae, and many other grooves; those would obviously be used in lieu of Logic’s virtual Drummers. It would be great if Logic would venture into those territories. We can only guess why it hasn’t happened yet.
Yep, I wish Lumbeats had a desktop and/or AUV3, Jazz Drummer, Funk Drummer and Afro Cuban Drummer sound great and have very cool rhythms, Logic Drummer is so basic mainstream
how do yall not get completely overwhelmed by the unlimited choice and different variations? i find it so stifling haha, like i'll spend the whole day tweaking and never get the song done ! great tutorial @whylogicprorules thanks
The last few days have been wild lol. Just starting to understand how powerful Logic Pro is, how much you can do with it!!! Exciting stuff man

Geez... no other DAW has this?
You remain the undisputed champion of Logic Pro tutorials. A lot of this stuff is perishable and you always get me back up to speed.

Thanks Chris you are the best brother! I wish I was better at getting Drummer to adapt to my song more precisely.
Holy cow this is amazing!

Thanks, man. Big fan. Is there a particular drummer that doesn't show up drunk?

Anders for Metal, 'nuff said! \m/
Use logic drummer in conjunction with heavyocity damaged drum kit for unreal sounding drums.

@@chris60036 Not Jazz, not Latin. Christ, even old organ beat boxes from the '70s had Bossa Nova. ;)
