  • Jonathan Dick was one of Australia’s most wanted men for more than two years after killing his brother with a sword in a Melbourne shopping centre. While on the run the fugitive also tried to kill his former best friend who turned the tables on the killer and brought him to justice. He and his family tell ACS exclusively about living on Jono’s kill list, being stalked and attacked and the surprise ending that means this nightmare may never end.

    As someone who had a schizophrenic mother, and who has studied this horrific disease, I feel extreme empathy for this man, his family, and the family to whom he has caused so much fear. While I do empathize with him, I also believe, as a life long mental health advocate, that he should never be released. He WILL stop his meds at some point, and anyone he perceives to be a threat will be in very grave danger. It is wrong that they are not entitled to know when he is released. I wonder when common sense will re-enter society?

      @@ratnamani8228 and how do you know that I do not? In fact I do not, but no my research was not done on Google or Wikipedia. It was done by thoroughly reading peer reviewed academic research publications (to which I have access via my employment), speaking to medical professionals in the field over the course of my mother's lifetime, and attending lectures by prominent professionals in the field. Further, having a mother who had schizophrenia, and as her primary caregiver for my entire adult life, I'm fairly confident enough in MY knowledge base and LIVED experiences to make the statement. Having worked in academia in higher education for more than thirty years, I DO understand what imperical research means. Do you?

      @nikkikidd8428 Рік тому +13

      Actually yes it can. Especially if someone is predisposed to have a mental illness. People can have a psychotic break and never really come out of it. A really good friend of mine went off the rails when he was 16 and 35 years later he is only just now showing signs of improvement. But he will never live on his own and after his mother dies there may not be anyone in his life to take care of him and make sure he takes his medication or monitors his sugars and insulin levels. He has suffered a arrested development due to psychosis resulting from weed and further effected by whatever drugs he could find to chase his delusions and hallucinations away. He is a huge guy and did some damage until he drove straight into a cement truck trying to kill himself. Ironically it saved his life but if not for his mother he would be dead for sure. I understand why people don’t believe it, weed can do miraculous things but for a small percentage of us, weed can reek havoc on our brain.

      Sorry, wrong. I love weed, LOVE it, but smoking it before the age of about 20 can massively exacerbate any potential to develop schizophrenia. Tis a fact. Not all schizophrenics are murderers though, so there's that. Mostly, their victim is themselves, poor buggers.

      Actually, yes. The whole time she was talking about that, I was thinking of my sister. She's changed, and it's because of marijuana. She also does it daily, multiple times a day. One of my mom's friends saw her and as soon as my sister walked away, the friend turned to my mom and said, "She's on drugs." And yes, I do believe she is capable of killing. She's all drama, drama, drama now and playing the victim. She went around harassing me, telling me I should be raped, sending me threatening emails, etc.

She is there to to assure they are prosecuted fairly. She does not lie for them. The constitution is the same for the prosecutor as it is for the defense. She recently had a 14 year old client who killed his father. The prosecution wanted to try him as an adult and sought the most extreme sentence. My daughter uncovered that this child was being sold on a daily basis for sex by his father. The boy had countless broken bones in the process of healing and burn scars. His body at 14, had been ravaged. My daughters job was to protect his rights and explain the possible reasons this crime was committed. The prosecution was focused on the rights of the victim, a pedophile and child sex trafficker who had tortured this defendant since he was able to walk.

    Dated a man by the family name of Dick, San Francisco early 2000s. Didn't last long or end well. Find out all you can about the other person including what mental health drugs they're on and if they know not to mix with booze every day. Run if both boxes are ticked if you don't want to have any big regrets later!

    So, so sorry for what all of these victims went through with this man. What ia particularly at note is how this murderer strategized to avoid the police, stalked victims and was cunning while having Schizophrenia. Very rare to be able to be on the run for 2 years. In spite of the mental health aspect, he should be locked up long term. To be let go in 10 yrs or so is totally unfair to this family and also LUDICROUS in general considering the danger to the public.
    But hey, the victims are only tax paying, honest people who get no protection from the system, often like our laws in Canada.

    Before that lovely lady actually said wen she thinks that fear will actually end, I couldn't help but say out loud,
    "it'll be over wen the sick twisted evil bastard can't take air into his lungs & his 💔 stops beating!! Thats how that lady will be able to go to bed without any anxiety, fear & apprehension being the ever present factors in their lives! "
    May peace & quiet comee to this family sooner rather than later, i hope that they're children grow up fairly decent & not traumatised to within an inch of their lives coz of they're forever reminded of the constant fear that plagued their parents for over 2 years! But its not gonna stop yet, the fear i mean, bless them for being so incredibly strong & i admire them keeping heads held high & i hope their hearts will overcome that overwhelming fear & anxiety, just stick together & love each other & keep ur family close & never take each other for granted ever! 💪🏻🥰🤞🏻
    May justice & the truth prevail in the end! Something has to give!
    Good luck, take good care of one another & love ur family! Peace Out! ✌🏻🤗🙏🏻

    The degree of premeditation and planning suggest that he fully understood what he was doing which contradicts the mental health defence. As does the strategy to deliberately evade capture and flee the crimes themselves. He spent 2+ years stalking his prey. This is not a man out of control of his faculties. It’s a disgrace that he wasn’t convicted. Systems broken.

    Horribly sad story about a man with mental illness A violent man And that's where he had a problem I do not agree that drugs did this otherwise 90% of the world would be killing people. And unfortunately we have made homelessness pretty criminal as it is so I do agree with them not forcing them to give an ID but if someone closely matches a wanted subject then yes, get that ID. I agree with her if violence is involved then they need to keep them locked up, even if it's in a mental state hospital for criminals.

    Justice system in Australia seems to be like here in Ireland also. That is, far too much favour is given to the perpetrator. I totally agree with Dani, she and her family were model citizens, paying their taxes, etc. And this guy carries out heinous acts but could be out in a few years. He should never be allowed out to the general public again.
