So I subverted the traditional warlock's story. Instead of being a good person making a bad deal, I was a bad person making a (alignment-wise) good deal. My celestial warlock was a burglar who robbed a temple and the priests there summoned a solar to retrieve the icon and punish the thief. Well, when the solar found him, he allowed him to live, provided he act as the solar's agent and as an agent of Good. To "help" him stay on the good path, his pact of the chain familiar is a sprite (reflavored as a shoulder angel like in those old cartoons) So he's on probation and the sprite is his P.O. I liked that warlock. Too bad he died in combat on his second adventure. But I always liked the idea so I may revise it for a different character.
I love this, I'm doing something very similar in a current campaign. A drow soldier who was near death and saved by an angelic being in return for working towards being a better person. I have been labeling it the "reverse devil deal" character lol. Good on ya and definitely revisit it cause it's so juicy story wise.
I've got a Tiefling celestial pact of the tome warlock who thinks she's a cleric of Lurue. She was adopted by Lurue as a child when she was saved from her cult family who were trying to summon Asmodeus. She loves rainbows and hands out pamphlets about Lurue every chance she gets. I can't wait to play her. My table rotates DMs and games, so soonish my husband will get to DM a 5e game for our table. I think alot of people sleep on Tomelok since there's so many good invocations, especially the one where if a player goes down and their name is in my book, they bounce back up with 1 hp and the one where you no longer need to sleep so you can always be on watch. Good stuff.
this warlock is also realy fun to make a pact of the chain if the gift of the living ones that maximizes healing to do a more tank warlock kinda on a cleric of life style
I like to think that a celestial warlock is a good alternative to a cleric. Not in functionality, but in character. A cleric can be weighed down by dogma and ideology. So, a celestial warlock may just be a well-meaning do-gooder who attracts a being with the same intentions.
I’m playing a Paladin in Curse of Strahd My party only has a bard and myself as healers so for action economy I took a dip into celestial warlock for healing light. We’ve had some hard battles but the ability to raise party members from zero hp as a bonus action has really helped the party. My play style 1. Attack one. Smite 2. Attack two. Smite 3. Bonus action. Heal someone so they can get back into the fight. Ps. Smite slots recharge on a short rest!!!
My celestial warlock is an orphaned Harengon that the human personification of a star decided to save from death and adopt but only on the condition she finds her daughter.
I took human variant for the Magic Initiate feat for Firebolt and Fogcloud That way I didn’t need the book for extra cantrips and could take another boon I wanted a firebolt warlock instead of eldritch blast to be unique and to free up invocations
I'm starting in a new campaign as the party's only healer with a Celestial Warlock. I also chose Protector Aasimar and Path of the Tome. However I also chose to start with a one level splash in Peace Cleric for the armour/shield and the Emboldening Bond. Emboldening Bond is like a light Bless that doesn't require concentration. So I can stack bless on top of it if I want, or use concentration for Hex or something without completely stripping my party of potentially life saving bonuses on their saves.
That bit with examples of Celestials adds a bit to my Warlock's backstory, I didn't have one picked out at the start, so I wrote that he believed he was making a deal with a god, now I can give the figure he met a form and tell my DM to see where he takes it.
I am currently playing an aasimar Celestial warlock. So much fun. I ended up taking Pact of the Blade but boy has my character been reworked multiple times because of story events. Started with an Angel living inside him. Then died but the Angel's soul fused with his. Then the Angel manifested completely to attack 3 death Angem reapers which basically killed the original character... now his is back and without the Angel inside him. Another player plays as his brother in faith under Heironeous. This has been a wild ride.
I want to make an extremely unsettling Celestial Warlock. Real "Portrait of God" (2022) meets Cronenburg. mainly because healing and body horror kind work yk?
high elf celestial tome warlock, invocations for eldritch blast for knockback and draw-in plus extra damage. In combat I'm a damage/heal turret but I have Dimension Door so if I need to use a cure spell I can be right there.
I wanted to play a support and chose celestial warlock cause I had never seen it played and I really liked the idea of being a savory in the most unexpected of ways, plus the roleplay for the campaign is already getting good
Yeah I dunno Patrick I think if I'm going to play a warlock, I'm going to play one with a pact of the chain. There's just something about having a little buddy around to help keep me inline that is just too perfect to pass up.
Currently working on an Owlin Celestial Warlock build. This is only my second ever build and I'm super open to tips and tricks. Don't know which celestial I'm going with yet either. We're going the full strixhaven route, and going to school. Its looking like Lorehold is going to be where we'll be studying and I'm super interested in incorporating the mascot feature later on. This is a group of almost all new players, so going to school just felt really fitting. I'm definitely loving the 'cleric by way of warlock' vibe. We have a druid too so I think we'll be tag teaming some support roles together.
I'm crafting a female dwarf Battlerager Barbarian and Celestial Warlock. I plan to pretty much follow Shard's layout. Hilda Alfhild should prove quite interesting...
Questions. Is it possible to switch patrons and play styles without multi classing? For example, could my warlock start out with a pack of fiend, due to a debt of servitude that my parent had that carried over to me, then I become saved by a celestial, and I’m now serving them. Instead of a life of darkness, I endeavor to become a knight. Could this be possible?
I'm actually multi-classing starting from a Bard to be a Eloquence Bard and Celestial Warlock. I find the combination interesting and am looking for more ideas for what I'm going for to know how much to dip into each pool so to say.
I want to do a Paladin duel classes into a Celestial Warlock build. That could he flavored as the Paladin being on really good terms with their Guardian Angel.
i might be playing a celestial warlock soon. her patron is a cleric who kept her from dying once and he doesn't even know he is a patron. he is a trickery cleric and his god just found it an amusing idea and did it for/to him depending how you look at it.
I'm about to start a new campaign this week with a Dragonborn Warlock! I chose a Gold ancestry dragon, to give me a fire breath to keep it thematic with the radiant and fire damage. Pact of the Chain will give me a pseudodragon familiar, and I gave my character a custom background of being a demonhunter. I was inspired by Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Seraphon, and how they want to destroy chaos. Lastly, coming out of left field, and to mix it up, I'm gonna try to roleplay it with a WoW Bwonsamdi/Witch Doctor voice, and maybe give it a raspy lizard twist. We'll see how it goes lol!
Going to try something unusual for my next 5e game. Silver Dragonborn Dragon Bloodline Sorceror (Gold) / Celestial Warlock - Bahamut. The idea is that the character is a created avatar meant to combine all of the metal dragons into an 'Anti-Tiamat' type persona. Wish me luck...
Playing a divine soul sorcerer, who has to take warlock at 2nd level. His great-grandparents made a deal with a celestial, and the price was the first male child. To come into effect on his 16th birthday. May only be a dip or might be the rest. The future is fluid.
I wish that you could go into more depth for the different build you can do with this like in your multiclassing videos. if only just to hear you narrate the possibilities.
My dm said make an evil character. My celestial warlock used to be human but woke up in a pile of discarded bodies as a reborn with few memories. Her goal now is to kill whoever made her this way and avoid her patron and deity until she gets her revenge. She doesn’t even wanna think what they would say about her reborn status, even if she could remember who they were. Pact of the tome.
Currently playing a Tiefling Celestial Warlock in Curse of Strahd... she was born with her infernal characteristics because her father was a Fiendlock who sold his soul and that of his then-unborn daughter to a fiend in exchange for power. Chara basically sold her soul to an angel to escape the clutches of her father's patron shortly after her dad died in a confrontation with Strahd. Also worth noting that, since both her parents are human, she's never met another Tiefling and assumes that her patron took mercy on an actual fiend. She's both a little confused and extremely grateful, and has vowed to do whatever it takes to repay her kind master... all while maybe getting a bit of vengeance on Strahd for killing her father and her father's patron for tricking a mortal into making such a horrific pact without actually upholding their end of the bargain (her father was one of those who tried and failed to rid Barovia of Strahd and made his deal with the Nine Hells in pursuit of that goal).
I created a Tortle celestial warlock named *"Koro-Koro".*
A helpful tortle boi who's patron is a unicorn he became friends with.
This made my day that sounds both dope and adorable 🥰

You need to revisit that idea, it sounds great
I might steal this idea LOL
...but was he redeemed, or did he fall away and was allowed to die by his P.O.?

Yea, thats one of the things we love about 5e, more than one way to get to what you want.
Because of this had my dm make a unique form for my familiar called a Lesser Couatl.

Yup yup. Possibly making a celestial warlock and definitely considered assimar and tome.

I can always rely on your dnd wisdom and ideas. Thanks to you.
Thank you very much for the tips! Making a celestial warlock for a one-shot (potential mini campaign) and I really look forward to playing it!!!
I'm looking at making a celestial warlock now and I agree that Pact of the Tome Protector Aasimar is great.

I enjoyed this video but good lord the music at the end is too loud.

I’m currently working on a Verdan celestial warlock for a horror themed campaign
im thinking of twilight cleric / celestial warlock celestian is my god
My tiefling celestial warlock being the head of a cult of 'balance'
I like A Chain pact with the celestial warlock then you can hoard the healing to yourself
I'm crafting a female dwarf Battlerager Barbarian and Celestial Warlock. I plan to pretty much follow Shard's layout. Hilda Alfhild should prove quite interesting...

It’s not discussed in any if the WOTC the books; this could be something you talk with your dm about.
I believe in TCOE there is one page mentioning subclass changes, not totally sure @@SkullSplitter

I'm probably going to be multiclassing from my wild magic barbarian into a celestial warlock

Can they have a celestial angelic right arm called godhand in d&d as a angel/celestial

I created a Owlin Monk AstralSelf multiclass Celestial Warlock
Cleric Warlock multiclass

How do you explain leveling, where your new abilities are granted by your patron?
