Just bought a 2021 EX-L so just wanted to make a minor correction. The EX-L, at least now, does in fact have the same memory seat function that you point out and say is not included in the EX-L. I agree the upgrade to the SE is worth the $600 for most people, however, in my case, living in NYC with rough roads but travelling to places with dirt roads, the 20" wheels are a bug not a feature, so I decided to stay with the EX-L. Great video, thanks!
@@gham05 , The engine sound is exactly the same as other models-from what I can tell. At idle it sounds like a sewing machine, however, when floored the engine note and VTEC are great. I am actually very impressed with the 0 to 60 speed. I would estimate six seconds, that is faster than my old civic SI.
I just purchase one (9/1/20) love it. Was going to wait for the change in the 2022 model but I would have to purchase a 2023 to allow honda to fix the bugs. I traded in my 2010 EX-L with 104000 miles with very little problems . Was amazed at the resell value of the truck. This was a great video since I am sill learning the features.
Enjoyed the video. Other small things that Honda does is add a pocket to the back of front seat to hold your phone. Great for storing phone while it’s charging. Not forced to hold it or search for it at the bottom of seat. Pocket is located at the top of back seat pocket.
Honda shtick: before releasing a new model, they come out with the current model with extra perks. This is an excellent bargain and a no brainer if you’re getting a pilot!
Greats video! Thank you! Recently lost our beloved ‘16 Odyssey Special Edition due to an accident. As much as we would like to replace the Odyssey, it wouldn’t be the same. This Pilot Special Edition might be the one for our family. I’d love to have the AWD Special Edition without the wheels and add captains chairs and rear entertainment.
3 month update : No major problems but I hate the paddle shifter location. this is not needed in this truck and the auto engine off features. Other than that great SUV. By the way my highway gas mileage is around 26-27 and in city 22.
@@grannyp.w.4343 it has taken some time to get use to. There is about a 1 sec. delay when shifting into gear. The hardest part is going from park and turning off the pilot. All of that you will overcome after a month of driving. Hope this helps.
Great video. It doesn't make sense that it has a wireless charger but you still have to use a cable in order to use android auto and car play. They should of made car play wireless like in some models.
Just a update on my Pilot Special Edition : After 7400 miles no problem. I am getting approx 21 city 25 Highway. The only real problem was a chip in the windshield from a rock .
You should do one of the touring/black edition. Specifically the entertainment systems. Like how to play movies from your phone, android auto wireless, etc.
Justin Fuller is, IMHO, THE MOST DETAIL-DRIVEN car reviewer anywhere! He covers more ground than I thought possible - in the shortest time. (In fact, if he were on Gen. Geo. S. Patton's staff in WW-II, Victory In Europe Day would have been in 1944 instead of 1945!) Regardless, I want to know what kind of coffee (etc.) he's into - I need it bad!
Thank you so much for this. I am getting ready to test drive the EX-L. I think I can do $600 for this. I was actually debating on the passport too, but can always use an extra third row. I can just leave it down and almost have the same vehicle right?
Wish had saw this video, didn’t know they had SE edition for 2021, I just got Exl today and if I had seen this video, would have got SE trim. Big regret
Could u do a night time review on lighting range of vehicle and how clear the view is from driver seat that would be a good thing to add to the video for future
Loved the video, lots of info and well produced. I have an issue I need assistance with. We just purchased a 2021 Pilot SE yesterday and noticed one we got home its a lot bigger than our previous 2011 CR-V. When we open the tailgate/liftgate it opens way too far and hits the garage door. I saw your video about manually opening the door, and that's pretty useful. After searching i noticed in previous models with power tailgates you could program the tailgate to only open to a preset setting every time. I attempted the method in those videos and couldn't get it to work. Do you know of a method to program the tailgate opening height or could you please speak with Honda engineering to push a software change to enable that feature on the 2021 Honda Pilot SE ?!
For vehicles with an adjustable tailgate, you simply move the tailgate to the desired height, then hold the tailgate button down until you hear a double beep. If that does not work, then it is not adjustable to my knowledge. Congrats on the new Honda though!

Hey Justin, Great informative video but i do have a question. Is the tailgate height adjustable on the SE? Just got this for my wife and the tailgate touches the garage door when opening and i can't find the setting anywhere. Thanks!
Has there been any issues with the MPG? My 2021 Pilot SE that I purchased 12/12/2020 is showing/getting 14/15 MPG. I took it to the dealership and they can’t tell me why I’m not getting the overall 20/23 and why my start/stop idle hasn’t been working then suddenly does.
Hubby purchased me the 2021 SE AWD for my birthday! Love this vehicle. Such an upgrade over my Dodge Journey. Any tips on the wireless charger? I have an iPhone SX Max and the charger will start, but after about 30 seconds switches off. 🤷♀️
This is always tricky. Whenever there is a new update I see people run into issues also. I do not have a fix for this as of right now. I would check some forums though. Usually others have run into an issue and may have a work around.

If you are using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto you will have access to a compass.
Great video. Thoughts about 20 inch wheel in SE vs. 18 inch wheel in EXL?
20 in wheels look nice, but the 18 inch will put more rubber between you and the road. Just depends on your preference.
